No, the entire Blu-Ray consortion doesn't want a videogame, they want money.lantus
Sony computer entertainment could make a lot of money from Gears. It would be a guaranteed multi million unit seller.
Couldn't Microsoft just go to Toshiba for Blu-Ray? Either way, why would M$ give up one of their best exclusives of 2008, so the minority can watch Blu-Ray movies? It seems pretty dumb to me, especially since Microsoft forbids the use of Blu-ray discs for games.spark_212
no they can't cause Blu ray isn't liscense by toshiba after the HD-DVD drama Microsoft and Toshiba not good friends any more. Toshiba run to sony after Defintion war was over and bought 835 million dollars worth of cell processors from Sony look like Sony got another allie against microsoft.

And the rest of the people who own Blu Ray get what now?

Thanks for the info. Sony and Microsoft are in competition, but don't want to exterminate one another. They make many products deals a year. I'm sure if Microsoft wanted to incorporate Blu-Ray into the next Xbox, the owners of Blu-Ray would allow them. Microsoft even made a video codec used in the current Blu-Ray disc.
Microsoft does actually recieve royalties everytime you buy a Blu-ray movie because they helped develop AACS encryption and VC-1 codec.
What would you think of that idea? As a multi console owner, I think they can both benefit. Nothing wrong with giving up a few exclusives in exchange for a great new Blu-ray equipped 360. And yes, a Blu-Ray 360 WILL happen, no matter what the deniers in here think. Those are the same people that kept saying Mass Effect or Gears wouldn't come to the Pc, and 'bam' , they were wrong.ChiefFreemanI passed gears up for my PC, so I have no interest in Gears 2. So I couldn't care less if it did or did not come to PS3.
Sony doesn't own all of blu-ray. They only own a small peice of it.laughingman42
74% is small right.

not gonna happen buddy... comparing geow from 360 to pc is somthing totally different than sony giving blu-ray to 360
and if it does good for sony because then the 360 price will go higher, many people already have a 360 so they wont bother buying another one for blu-ray, microsoft starts loosing money, sony gets paid for every 360 and ps3's that get sold.
which means 360 will be even more rubbish. period.

Why would MS do that?

MS could get a Blu-Ray add on any time they want, and Sony wouldn't say boo... or they can kiss bye-bye to Windows for their Vaio laptops.
people do realize blue-ray does use microsoft codec. Sony doesn't own blue ray. Microsoft can put blue ray player all they want.

Yeah, people really don't seem to get this. Blu-ray is only partially Sony's; just because the PS3 has the player built in doesn't mean Sony owns the rights to the entire thing. Will MS bring a blu-ray add-on to the 360? Definitely; probably sooner rather than later (to kill any momentum Sony's getting from the fall of HD-DVD). Will it be built-in to the 360? Probably not; less people will be able to buy it (not everyone would be willing to re-buy their 360 for this), and it would kill the "customer has choices" motto that MS has been preaching.
