I never liked turn based fighting systems so I got turned off by FF early on. Zelda just seems to pull me in alot more, and is my favorite franchise in general.
Sometimes I sit here, and wonder why people like franchises like Final Fantasy.
I'll go with LoZ.

cause tthey enjoy them i know i do and have done since i was around 10 y/o and my cousin gave me a loan of Grandia then i got a loan of FFIX and was hooked for life probably the biggest factor in why i tend to enjoy JRPG's much more than WRPGs.
FF has gave me tons of hours over all the games i have prolly sunk at least 1000 hours of my life into them cause i just love them.
The best Zelda games (A Link to the Past, and the Legend of Zelda) are better than a lot of FFs, but nowhere near the top of the FF chain (FF Tactics, FF6, FF1, FF7). The worst Zelda (Zelda 2) is right down there with the worst FFs (FF2). So overall, I'd say FF > LoZ.
Zelda = more fun to 'play' FF = better stories (which means more attachment to the characters/involvement in the story) Both offer lots to do/sidequests/etc. Both story and gameplay are important to me...it is a DRAW Though Fire Emblem is my favorite series
Final Fantasy for me (I'm talking about the main games, the spinoffs I could care less nor did I ever play them) What is great about FF games is you get a new experiance every game which is great storywise.
