Taken from Kotaku......LulzSec is MOSTLY here to remind us that net security is, well, a joke....

"This is what you should be fearful of, not us releasing things publicly, but the fact that someone hasn't released something publicly. We're sitting on 200,000 Brink users right now that we never gave out. It might make you feel safe knowing we told you, so that Brink users may change their passwords. What if we hadn't told you? No one would be aware of this theft, and we'd have a fresh 200,000 peons to abuse, completely unaware of a breach."

Interesting article. they kinda play the role of some twisted school teacher....who plays pranks on the students while teaching to them in the process.

discuss.... how do you see LulzSec now that this has come to light? still some vigilante group bent on making a name for themselves?

Should of made that clear from the start. Not bragging about beating Anon or pretending they over shadowed the PSN network breakdown.

That betrays their main principle of just doing it for the lols.

What I think is they are full of it, and this is just (a rather poor) post-rationalization.

I personally have no problem with messing the little stuff but the sony network catastrophe (not saying it was them) was BS if you're gonna go after a company keep it between yourselves.

I think we got that the first time with the Sony hacks, but after stuff like they did to The Escapist, I don't think they're trying to teach about net security, they're just power tripping.

why take the data? there are better ways to do this kind of thing. for example the classic story of someone getting into someone elses wireless network and sending a print job to their printer saying something like "Hi. i have just breached your wireless network security. to imrpvoe it do X, Y and Z". i mean they have a point....properly testing security by battering the living crap for it and then telling the organisation when it has been breached is a good thing...it improves security (yes in a perfect world we wouldnt need it in the first place but the world has enough filth and scum in it to warrant security measures...thats just reality). but if their intentions are truly noble then why are they taking user data at all? threaten companies to up their game sure (after all if lulzsec can do it then someone else can do it). publicly humilitate them if they fail to do so...absolutely. start telling the media that company X is storing passwords in plain text or company Y has a database that is very poorly defended....go right ahead. but why take the data if there trying to be a positive force?

It teaches companies that security needs to be beefed up, it reminds the public that hackers still suck as much as ever.

If that were actually true, then why are they threatening to release the information if Bethesda doesn't meet their demands? They're jerks, nothing more.

Well then my opinion is they should be hacking places bigger than gaming websites and smaller games. If they want to make a statement, have a government, not release information, then tell the government how incompetent they are. I don't know why they would waste their time attacking small websites.

well itsn ot possible to dodge bullets but i understand the concept, we'll show you how unprotected you are but exploit it at the same time for our own amusement, and it would be pretty funny to send some random guy 10 **** althought this gives me a great idea for a prank on my room mates and a slight difference in mailing labels muahahahha

What point does releasing user's information have if you can notify the company without screwing people over? What does DDoSing several game sites have to do with internet security?

They're really nothing more than a bunch of kids with nothing to do so they spend their time messing with other people. This is just a poor attempt at justifying their behavior and blaming the victims.

LulzSec is the enemy. You don't go around proving houses are too flammable by setting them on fire with people still inside. They are long past any notion that they are doing this for any kind of honorable reason. They are *bleep*s, pure and simple. I will cheer the day they are caught and tossed in jail because all they are doing is pissing people off, costing people money, and giving the regulators ample ammunition to introduce new draconian laws to fight this *bleep*.

The Citibank one was a joke.
I say they were shocked when they saw has easy it was to access it.
Even the US Military are still afected by a worm from 2008. No matter what once you online your open to hackers.

Could be worse. Imagine these guys said nothing. The amount of information they got and nobody saw anything. Credit cards and all your information. How do we know someone hasn't already done this before and got away unoticed? Online internet services need to buff up the security a lot. These guys even have no problem even screwing with the CIA website.

Nope. They are pretty much scum. Unlike other actual hackers who's true goal is to teach companies about security, they fail in talking to the companies about whats wrong and parade everyones personal info about like some trophy. Its just BS talk.

And if someone can explain these 200,000 brink accounts please do. Brink uses Steamworks so does that mean they have 200,000 steam id? If its 200,000 brink forum users, then 98% of them is made up info.

They are teaching our governments that we need an end to net neutrality, a governent run internet, and tracking of all traffic at all times.

Lol I really doubt their sole intention is to teach us all a lesson. They just want to make a name for themselves. Like most hackers. I'm wondering right now if any of this hacker nonsense would be happening if it weren't for that Geohot scenario with Sony.

If they were really here to help they'd get access to the system, not take anything, then warn the companies that they managed to get in, tell them how they did it and work on a solution to fix it.

If someone leaves their front door open, I try and contact them about it, I don't go into their house, steal their TV then say "Hey dude your front door was open, I stole your tV, you better lock your door. Lucky I was here to help you."
