You do a series of virtual tests to gauge your skill levels in several key areas of the game before you start, and then as you play games it adapts the difficulty based on how you play.....difficulty levels has always been a tough thing with Madden, and I think they've gotten it right this year.
really? as a Madden fan the demo is dissappointing for a few reasons.
The IQ test was cool and interesting. I killed it on the running play. Passing drills. and pass defense was beast. But then the game showed me some flaws in run defense. although i think it was just the hardest one to do
The actual madden moment was kind of limiting
it was a 2 minute drill. I really didn't get to mess with the running backs
I did however notice the secondary is better
The O-line is so far less stupid on pass offense
ANimations are really cool and add to the core experience
its an improved madden
but they should have allowed you to play a full game in the demo....The game has all these improvements that honestly i didn't get to try.
I want to know how other running backs will feel because that was what i liked about Madden 08 versus any past football game. Each back felt like he had his own sty1e so to speak
Unlike that carbon copy backfield that was ESPN Nfl 2k5....that i am sure will be praised as somekind of god in this thread.

I can't believe they have the audacity to sell that Head Coach for $50 separately.....I will admit, it is one of the cooler pack-in though for a Limited Edition version of a game.

head coach from what i gathered from my friend playing it is basically what it says, you take the roll of the head coach, call plays, run practices, go to meetings with the team owners, your goal in the game is to win the super bowl and become one of the greatest coaches of all time

The Bad: The play-by-play guy needs some coaching

The only person worse is Joe Buck.
Why they don't bring back Al Micheals is beyond me. That man is fantastic at his job and could do any sport known to man...
also they need to make roster changes for this game. SHockey is still on the giants.
I'd like to see Al Michaels back as well, but unfortunately both he and John Madden went to NBC after MNF went from ABC to ESPN. EA Sports has a contract with ESPN, so they are not able to have Al and John for commentaries in the next-gen games.

My IQ was 557. It would have been in the 600/700's but I bombed on the pass defense part.
Madden 09 looks really good. I don't know what I was expecting going into the demo as I haven't been keeping up with Madden 09 but man... this is a major improvment over last year. Kinda lame though that you can't play a full game. The Madden moments are a really cool idea too.
Looking forward to this game. Now I'll need to scrap up some money for it... And I have to buy a new XBL Gold card soon. Ugh. :(

well you can do via formations
or via play type- this will break it down for you to outside run, inside run, draw, shotgun pass, screen, standard pass, quick pass, etc
Formations is obviousaly better for play calling for me personally.
then you can just select what you want from whatever formation.
The hotroutes have all be changed, its all different. LOTS of options.
The playbook for the GIANTS was different, one of my money plays is gone. :(
there is alot of depth and complexity to these madden games that the Elitist Snobs like to rule out....and call madden some casual garbage....

Thanks for the advice, i just hadnt looked around the menus enough. I absolutely fail at passing for whatever reason. I might go back to the PS2 version later just to make myself feel better. :P

Agreed. Difficulty settings sucked in madden for a long time now. Even in 08 I didnt like them. This year is looks like they got it right. Im really looking foreward to this years Madden. In madden 08 im already in my 8 season. I needed a change.
