It has now been confirmed that Madworld only sold 66,000 copies in the month of March. This coming straight from NPD themselves, doesn't sit well with the amount of hype the game garnered. Although the game was great fun it unfortunately was a very niche game.

NPD last month stated that House of the Dead Overkilll only sold 45,000 copies in the US, hopefully both of these titles continue to sell with legs that most Wii titles have.

I don't think anyone expected this game to sell a whole lot really fast. It will sell, but it will take time just as with other "hardcore" wii games not made by Nintendo. It's sad that more people aren't supporting it though.

Thats pretty embarrasing from Ninty's point of view.

Hopefully they have some legs becuase they both deserve more commercial recognition.(Especially MW)

That sucks. If I had the money I'd show support by buying both House of The Dead and Madworld.

Considering the size of the userbase, that's pretty dismal. But hopefully those guys keep at it.

I was lucky enough to be able to do that. They're both great games, albeit it a little short.

I better hang onto my copy of Madworld. It sounds like it'll be a collectiors item at this pace. :D

The size of the userbase makes this all the more dire, gentlemen, we are witnessing the slow death of decent third party gaming on the Wii. People always hoped that when the decent games came, they would sell. But that obviously is not the case on the Wii. The nintendo people here always argued that because of the Wii's high sales it would get more decent games in future, well i think we have our answer asto the the viability of that idea. If good games won't sell, why make them? Im sure that speaks louder than anything to developers.

Woah! Wut? I'm not the biggest Halo fan and I can tell you that campaign was nearly perfect. Waaayyy better than Halo 3's The multiplayer was golden as well. Halo 2 is by no means a terrible game.

STRETCH-E

So because horrifically violent games aren't selling on the Wii, third parties shouldn't even bother?

Perhaps these developers should have considered the demo of the Wiia little more carefully when making their games.

Gore-fests like Madworld will forever be niche on the Wii, especially when coupled with mainly black and white graphics.

But plenty of other third party games have the potential to do quite well. Crystal Bearers and Little King's Story have that potential (and don't have crotch to skull impaling)

Thats pretty embarrasing from Ninty's point of view.

Lets see how Bayonetta sells ;)

Difference being Madworld was hyped as "proving the Wii has hardcore games" - which frankly I never agreed with, because Madworld was simply violent, not hardcore. Madworld faces a problem similar to the one Chinatown Wars faces on the DS - the audience that is the primary consumer of "adult-oriented" entertainment is mainly on the 360, PS3, and PC. - Bayonetta looks terrible, I have absolutely no idea why anyone would hype it. If you want to look at an impressive game, take a look at Brutal Legend. When you're done picking your jaw off the floor, go back and play Psychonauts. Then, from that point forward, you need to ask "why are my other games so poorly designed by comparisson?". - Bayonetta.... I'd honestly rather drink a bleach smoothie than spend any more time with Bayonetta than I already have. Oooh... her clothes come off... do they really think that's a selling point? Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is $5 on newstands, you can't repackage that into a $60 game.

Are you seriously comparing a brand new franchise to a sequel to one of the biggest games of all time? These Halo comparisons are getting tiresome. It's one thing to compare KZ2 to Halo, but not Mad World.

It was one of those titles where many held out hope that we could not only get good, mature content, but also be different at the same time. Well, it was good, mature, and different, but nobody bought it. So the light of hope just faded a bit more.

You're kidding right?

Ok it never had the same level of hype or expectation attached to KZ2,but MW was considered by alot of people as a potential Killer-app,and proof that 3rd parties were willing to bring high quality games to the Wii.

Make no mistake, this was a big game for the Wii,especially considering the drought it suffered in the latter half of '08.

Obviously the market for the type of game on Nintendo platforms (like with GTA:CW) is almost non-existent. Its a shame that the core market is so highly under-supported by the consumer on Nintendo platforms... this is just going to make things worse for the Wii.

I'm not intending to insult you in any way - I don't think there's anything wrong whatsoever with not being hardcore, nor do I think being "hardcore" makes someone a better person, but you're not a part of the hardcore niche. It's not what you think it is - the people supporting the whole "buy it now" campaigns on the Wii cannot, by definition, be part of the hardcore niche, as platform-centrism is anathema to being hardcore. - In the end, Wasdie's comment is somewhat misplaced - but the key idea behind it - that they're targeting an audience that is not heavily represented on the Wii - holds true.

Nothing about this game's concept is niche.

sorry should of add imo, but are you sure about that, the art-style alone kind of remove alot of mainstream appeal , as a matter of fact the only part of the which does have mainstream appeal is the violence you can argu that's that the entire concept of the game but you will be wrong.

NPD sales numbers procured by Gamasutra reveal that Sega's M-rated tongue-in-cheek blood bath MadWorld sold 66,000 copies in the U.S. following its March launch, and the publisher feels encouraged.

Despite a respectable Metacritic score of 82 percent, the M-rated MadWorld didn't exactly explode off of the shelves when Sega released it last month. The stylishly violent first offering from Platinum Games only managed to push 66,000 copies. Not a huge number, but still higher than Sega's other M-rated title, House of the Dead: Overkill, which saw 45,000 copies sold in its debut month. Still, Sega seems pleased with the results, telling Venture Beat:

House of the Dead has done very well and has absolutely met our expectations. The first set of data for Mad World is very encouraging, as well.

I suppose when you are releasing an M-rated title on a console that's been embraced by the American family you've got to keep those expectations realisticKotaku

Taken from MadWorld Sells 66K In The U.S., Sega Seems Pleased.

The black and white art direction is the most offbeat part of the game. And even then, Sin City proved that it did'nt alientate people. The rest of the concept is you go on reality game show of death and kill people. Hardly original/niche.

This only goes to show that there is no market for core or hardcore games on the Wii.

As long as I own a Wii, there is definitely a "hardcore" market.

I am sorry, but there is a significant hardcore market on the Wii. Take sales of Super Mario Galaxy for example. Not hardcore enough for you? Take SSBB. Still not there? Take sales of Zelda: TP, or Resident Evil: UC, or CoD:WaW. Now I agree, the entire "casual" image may overshadow the hardcore niche on the Wii, but the point is that there are hardcore gamers on the Wii.
