And it's not going to make sense because of No More Heroes's review of 9.0.

So far, the game's problems are:

  1. Wonkey Camera: No More Heroes had a camera that worked perfectly about 70% of the time.
  2. Bad bike areas: Travis's bike looks to be worse.
  3. Repetitive Kills: No More Heroes had the same type of kills over and over but this didn't seem to be a problem in Gamespot's review.
  4. Too short: No More Heroes was a longer game, but Mad World apparently has better replay value (according to reviews).

On top of all of this, No More Heroes won Wii Game of the Year despite being scored lower than Brawl.... and yet I still see Gamespot giving MadWorld a much lower score for problems very similar to No More Hero's even WITH:

  1. A gorgeous Wii engine that displays particle effects without frame-rate problems like No More Heroes.
  2. Much more engaging enemies that are not carbon copies of each other.
  3. It looks to have better mini-games than No More Heroe's mediocre chores.
  4. there are several different weapons and thus several more ways to kill enemies than in No More Heroes.
  5. More bosses and actual mid-level bosses as well.
  6. The audio is probably even with No More Heroes having a retro feel and MadWorld having hip-hop.

I don't know why, but I can just see MadWorld getting massacred by Gamespot. Get ready.... hopefully sometime this week. >_>

[EDIT]Yup... I was right: 7.5

The review is going to focus mostly on how big of a headache the reviewer got from looking at the visuals. Count on it.

8-8.5. They won't mess it up too badly. Frankly though, none of us have played the game so we are really in a position to judge them BEFORE the review is even out let alone the game.

That depends on how much hype Madworld has. Console-hyped games and multiplats seem to score higher than PC-hyped games do.

I'm just basing this off of videos, reviews, and my experience playing No More Heroes (a game I rated an 8.0/10 for it's visceral gameplay but also it's terrible chore system, baron sandbox style, and repetitive gameplay).

I understand your point, frankly, I don't care what they give it because it will be awesome BUT lately there has been a lot of "gamespot is teh dumbest reviews evar" and such when like none of these people have even touched the games they are so vigrously defending. I simply don't think that judging one website using other websites as sources helps anything. They all have different standards, tastes, quirks. levels of tolerance, ec. It can't really be a bad review unless there are flatout lies in it or its poorly written which isn't the case most of the time.

so because they F'ed up with the No More Heroes score(because that game should have got 7s, 8 at best) they should mess up with Madworld as well?

Normally I don't flat out hate games but Madworld looks like poop to me. I understand what they tried to do with the game and I think they did it. But I still have no desire to play it or watch another second of it's gameplay.

While I was originally all for hyping it AA I think will probably get a 7.5 now, but then again IGN gave NMH a 7.8 and then GS gave it a 9 so you never know that will happen. But either way I'm still buying it first day :)

Madworld will get a 9.0 or 9.5 by Gamespot and yet Total War Empire gets 8.5. It's truly pathetic how far Gamespot has fallen in regards to its legitimacy and respectability regarding its reviews.

Haha, sheep are backing off the hype now? Damage control, perhaps?

Come on, I've been so excited for MadWorld and I believe it'll be AAA. If it flops, then oh well. I'll be playing it day one and take the ownage like a man. It's just a game. Have some faith in the awesomeness that is MadWorld. It's rare that the Wii gets a game worth giving a darn about like this.

Aside from the awful collision detection in NMH's hub, I feel that it was well deserving of an 8.5-9.0.

Empire? If so, then so what. Total War is absolutely full of win. Picked it up today and have played 3 hours so far. It's better than most AAA titles, which is the case with a few A titles and a good many AA titles.

GameSpot reviews are typically a mess - however Madworld is kind of a mess too... it's the sort of game that compensates for massive gameplay flaws by having unique visuals (*cough* Gears of War *cough*) and ultimately winds up being frustrating. I've been a tad annoyed by the Madworld hype. It's a Wii game with violence and visuals - yet I've been told by the Nintendo crowd that these things aren't particularly important to gaming.

Hey now, you defended Too Human like crazy, even after it came out and you played it -- which I'm not saying is a bad thing, because I also enjoyed Too Human and defended it multiple times, but I'm just sayin'. :P MadWorld will be awesome, but ultimately crapped on by the legions of Wii-bashing fanboys.

Repetitive....really stinking repetitive, crappy overworld, bland as hell graphics and art when not looking at bosses or main characters, wonky controls..... The only good things were the boss fights and humor, in my opinion. I just don't see it as being over a 7.

I find all hack n' slashers to be repetitive. I find God of War repetitive. I find them all repetitive. Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry are deeper, so they don't get as repetitive as quickly. But to me, in the end, they're all get repetitive at some point.

I didn't mind the overworld. I found the collision absolutely abysmal, but other than that, I enjoyed searching around the city for loot (money, t-shirts, balls, etc).

I also liked the visual styIe. I'll agree that the graphics weren't as striking as a MadWorld or Super Mario Galaxy, but the artstyIe was nice, atleast I thought.

Controls were just dandy for me and actually quite intuitive.

I think your generalising people hype games that look good madworld looks honestly they only time I remember seeing someone from the 'wii crowd' complain about violent games is in response to calling the system or a game on the system kiddie, there is no hypocrisy here people just hype good games and honestly what other game release this year have such a developers trackrecord to back it up.

Attacking the messenger only validates the message. What do Too Human or the Wii-haters have to do with Madworld? Madworld isn't "awesome", it's an okay brawler with an interesting visual design. No More Heroes is ultimately the better game, if only for the interesting "between level" segments, and that it's sort of a "video game for videogamers" - it plays on the meta-level of being this game that's really a sort of "play" on the medium. - Mad World doesn't do that - that's not going to justify the GS review (I mean - let's be honest, even if they gave it a 10.0 they wouldn't do so for the right reasons, which is the same thing that happened with Too Human, they trashed it, but for all the wrong reasons ) but yeah, Kansas does have it right. No matter what score GameSpot gives Madworld, they're going to be looking at it from all the wrong angles. - At the end of the day, I don't particularly get Madworld hype though - there's no reason for it. If Wii-only gamers are the generation's "hyper intellectuals" (an argument I don't buy - but whatever ) why do they want the ultra-violent title? I can't escape the sense that Madworld is hyped for what it is in relation to the 360 / PS3 more than what it is as a stand alone game. So from my perspective as a platform-agnostic - it's not nearly the game it is for someone who's going "yeah, Wii games, woo!".

Hey now, you defended Too Human like crazy, even after it came out and you played it, which I'm not saying is bad because I also enjoyed Too Human, but I'm just sayin'. :P MadWorld will be awesome, but ultimately crapped on by the legions of Wii-bashing fanboys.

Okay, lets see some proof of MadWorld ownership.

I'm not arguing if there's nothing to argue about. If you know so much about it, then lets see the goods.

I own every system this generation, btw.

[QUOTE="subrosian"]GameSpot reviews are typically a mess - however Madworld is kind of a mess too... it's the sort of game that compensates for massive gameplay flaws by having unique visuals (*cough* Gears of War *cough*) and ultimately winds up being frustrating.

Shinji Mikami is a skilled guy who helped on a pair of decent games, but SEGA's track record makes renal failure sound appetizing. Both Bayonetta and Madworld look ultimately like mediocre beat-em-ups with visual flaire. I don't let graphics substitute for content. As I've heard "gameplay > graphics" from Wii gamers since 2006, I would expect more support on this point. - Instead, the old arguments are thrown aside on the hopes of a game that only matters in its relation to the 360 / PS3 - it's a "Wii can be violent too" title hyped for all the wrong reasons. Doesn't cut it - I expect something more interesting on my Wii, it's a different sort of system, so do something different. An influx of titles in a genre that should have died along with the limitations that spawned it isn't stirring any fondness from me.

Aside from the awful collision detection in NMH's hub, I feel that it was well deserving of an 8.5-9.0.

Bigboi500

Repetitive....really stinking repetitive, crappy overworld, bland as hell graphics and art when not looking at bosses or main characters, wonky controls..... The only good things were the boss fights and humor, in my opinion. I just don't see it as being over a 7.

It had great hack n slash controls. :| The bike on the other hand...not so much.

I didn't think so but then again I realize that I am biased in this sense. I do not like waggle.

1. Where did I say I owned Madworld? I stated that I own No More Heroes, I typically will spend significant time with games I pass judgment on. 2. In the event that I receive a copy of a game early, I'm not usually under liberty to show it or even disclose that I've received it. However, Madworld is on shelves starting tomorrow - so you're welcome to go play it for yourself if you find my criticisms to be inaccurate :P 3. Congratulations? That changes Madworld... how?

Neither do I. The motion control in NMH was good.

The lack of mii integration will bring it down to a 6.0.
