Majora's Mask takes the cake for me. So deep, so mysterious, and such epic temples and climactic showdowns. A very challenging and forward-thinking entry into a great franchise.

In the case of quality:

Twilight Princess >>> Wind Waker >>> Majora's Mask >>> Ocarina of Time

I personally enjoyed Twilight Princess the most, but still have to play Majora's Mask and finish Wind Waker.

For it's time Oot is undoubtably the best game ever created. But when all measured up equally I enjoyed WW the most. Oh, and I didn't really like the three days in MM. And tetris is not better than OoT!

OoT is the best but I also love MM. I look at it as one sweet adventure. I beat both in August/September and TP shortly before that. TP is definitely the worst.

Ocarina of Time. Man, I played through that game maybe 5 or 6 times despite its length. I still remember fighting the last boss with my broken goron sword because I had nothing else to use since he smacks away the master sword.

There are going to be a lot of people who are going to say OoT because it is the most popular but I think for me it is Wind Waker. That game is just so beautiful. The cel shaded graphics were done to perfection. The combat was great and the dungeaons were godly (Tower of the Gods is a good one) and Makar was badass.

 @ people saying Majora's Mask just to be different.

That was the WORST 3D Zelda game.

What fun to play a game with a giant ugly moon creeping towards you at all times. Most relaxing game ever!

Was so disappointed with that game... bought it on release day... no way does it come anywhere close to the greatness of OOT.

How is TP a OoT redux, I understand with the setting and gameplay but the Twilight portion changes things alot. It just sticks to the formula a little to much. I love WW the most because it just feels like you are in another world and all the characters show alot of personality.

I can say the same for people who said OOT just to go with this society's conformity. They can believe whatever they want to believe, and can't hardly be justified to be 'd at just because their opinion is different than yours.

Maybe some people just have a different opinion. Ever thought of that? MM has been my favorite Zelda game since the very first time I played it. Before I found out that alot of other people didn't really like it. I like the tension that the time element has and I love the depth of the game.

No it wasn't because of the timer, but because of the characters and puzzles. The characters all had their own schedules, they were all recognizable from OoT but were all surprising and the situations You ended up in were all mysterious and interesting. Like the alien kidnapping, the disappearance in the hotel etc. The transformations were another huge dealmaker for me. I love transformations. That's the main thing i loved about TP as well. There were also minor masks with all kinds of funny effects. They were far more interesting than the bugs in TP. And cool swords as well! In the next few zelda's i really really missed that kind of (character) depth MM had. The timer was annoying at first. At some point You get to speed up or turn back time and i started to like the challenge of having to get something done before it's too late while being able to just walk around for three days if i wanted to. If only the next zelda would take a similar approach...

I am pretty sure Twilight Princess takes it for me. I just loved the adventure and everything was well done and such.

Next would be The Wind Waker. Loved the art direction and sailing, plus the charm and story were great.

Ocarina of Time is next. Not that I find it worse than those two, but I just think the other two are better games. A contradiction, I know. Yet nostalgia does constantly make me want to play this game, so it has that going for it.

I have never beaten Majora's Mask so I can not comment.

Majora's Mask, very closely followed by OoT.

@ Famibox:

If you went in expecting OoT 2, it's no surprise that you'd be disappointed. I suggest you play it again and judge it by its own merits. It really is a fantastic game; there's nothing quite like it.

MM was much more than the sum of it's parts. I think they would have had trouble integrating alot of the stuff that was so good in MM into other zelda games. Maybe they will be able to duplicate it one day.

Yes and no. The tweaks made to the combat system remained as well as the larger focus on sidequests (which one has to admit OOT lacked). Then Wind Waker kept that and added the concept of things like parrying (in the form we now know them) and such. You can't keep EVERYTHING from a previous game in the series.

Wind Waker, just my favorite and it's the most up to date Zelda. then OoT for being revolutionary and having that "it". MM just for being fun, different, and still feeling like a zelda game. TP, honestly, I despise it. Step backwards for the series, Zelda is not about combat moves and trying to be mature, it's just supposed tp be a thing of it's own. I also really didn't like the art style, feels like it's trying to pretend to be another game. TP is still a good game, just not Zelda to me, all up for upgrading the franchise, TP just didn't do it right for me.

True, but I was really disappointed by the lack of sidequests and interesting minor characters/storylines in TP. That's one of the main reasons I like Zelda so much.

Sort of, MM is the "darkest" IMO. TP hit me in the wrong spot with Illia and Midna's story. That felt forced in a "mature" kind of way, art style didn't help that either, though if it had WW or MM art style, I'd probably still feel the same way about it.

I haven't played Majora's Mask but aren't all the Zelda's from A Link to the Past to Twilight Princess basically the same story-wise? Link is hero, hero must gather Master Sword and Triforce to defeat ultimate evil... hero gathers Master Sword and Triforce and faces off against ultimate evil, then fights Ganondorf.

No, MM is actually such a drastic change in story that it's quite funny that it still feels so much like a traditional Zelda game while not being a traditional Zelda game. Edit : I guess because it has the same basic principles.

well for me tp is the worste(not that its bad) . the other 3 are kinda tied but..... i would say oot, because as a whole, its it the best imo, had alot of dungeons, epic story, lots stuff to do, awsome bosses. mm was great it was more like a sidequest game to me(fill out that journal), it needed more dungeons, bosses were ok(hated that fish, loved its temple though). loved the goron race(tha was epic for me lol) and loved the transformations and iteracitons when transformed. ww, it was almost as epic as oot, the only real downfall i can think of atm is that the sailing slowed it down too much(especially the start) and i loved searching for that ghost ship. tp was good, i just thought the stroy was a little off, and it did bring a few cool new things like swordfighting on epona. as a whole it just did not feel as complete and polished as oot for its time.

Majora's Mask for me as well, despite being linear liek the others all the side quests , time manipulation, the masks etc gave you the impression you had multiple options and that it was more diverse.

Nope, Ganondorf isn't even mentioned on MM...or the Triforce...or even, well you get the point.

It's too bad Nintendo refuses to release it on the VC... I'd very much like to play it. Guess I'll have to get an N64.
