Right, RRoD = Kaz Hirai . They are both bad. Xbox fixed their RRoD, when will PS3 fix their Kaz Hirai?

well, in a way he is right because the hardware forces developers to think outside the box that they normally think in and come up with new ideas and new ways to do things. Harder hardware means that games continue to look better each year for the life of the console instead of seeing sharp improvements for the first couple years and then seeming to level off or only offer minor, barely noticeable changes for the rest of the consoles lifespan.

On the other hand, all these things become moot if developers get frustrated with your difficult hardware and don't bother.

Kind of a catch-22, I guess.

How does making a system hard to program for promote thinking outside the box? The only thing it does is drive up production cost, dev time and frustrate people. It doesn't promote better more innovative games.

We hope they fixed the RROD, we're not 100% yet... although Kaz Hirai does need to find a job where his eccentricities are more suited

thinking outside the box should be awarded to Nintendo and their hardware. Very different control scemes that is successful -forcing developers to come up with some new ideas in interaction.

It's made hard to develop for so that multiplats wont occur.

Of course, it assumes that PS3 will be king - which its not.

Which is why there are no benefits to ANYONE regarding the PS3's tricky design.

Well, let's look at the pros and cons of the PS3's difficult development dilemma...

pros:

Forces designers to work smarter AND harder, yielding better quality games.

Discourages amateur studios from developing games - less awful titles.

cons:

Encourages delayed releases, whether for 360/PC or PS3.

Discourages experienced studios from developing games for it - see Valve.

Restricts game selection - less titles to choose from.

Less indie titles released for the PS3 than 360/PC

Ports are often awful (Fallout 3, Orange Box)

Did I get that about right? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the PS3 being hard to develop for is bad.
