6.0Presentation
Dozens of new mini-games and a handful of new modes. You can incorporate your Miis into some games, but not all. Interface works, but the visuals are dated.

5.0Graphics
The only Nintendo-published Wii game that doesn't really run in 16:9 widescreen mode, it's clear that Mario Party 8 was originally a GCN effort. The graphics don't even impress as a GCN title.

5.0Sound
Some of the boards have catchy MIDI music, but character sound effects repeat often.

5.0Gameplay
The formula is wearing thin. Some of the new minis use the Wii remote in unique and fun ways. Most don't. The single-player game is like torture.

8.0Lasting Appeal
If you can overlook its shortcomings, Mario Party 8 offers a robust list of minis and modes to keep you busy and everything is better with friends.

5.2
MediocreOVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

TBH this is one of the Mario spin-offs that I think really is past it. Just scrap it, or at the least make it bi-yearly so the games are better.

is true, Gamespot did review it and it was a flop. They said it did not look good, and that they still had the problems that previous ones had. 6.5= Flop.

How can it be a flop? Was anyone hyping this? This installment got the exact same score as the last one, so no one should really be surprised... Not that the score even matters. People continue to buy these even though they're low-quality, because they just want simple fun for the moment. It's the same thing as the Buzz games.

The best you could come up with is "Mario Flop Party 8"???? That doesn't even make sense. You could have at least gone with "Flop Party 8" or "Mario Flop #8" or "Flop Flop Flop Floppitty Flop Mario Flop flop party flop floppy floppy 8 flop floppy".

Don't kid yourselves, it is indeed a flop.  There wasn't a whole heap of hype for this game, but lets not pretend that every Wii fanboy wasn't expecting the jump to the motion control to = at least a AA game, A at the least.  This once again proves that no matter how "fun" you think the motion controls of the Wii are, they don't automatically make a game more fun.Corvin
I wasn't... I know what to expect from a Mario Party game. The previous installments were fun for the moment (at least with 4 players) even though they scored crap. I won't be buying this game, partly because I don't have 4 Wii-motes, and partly because having previous versions pretty much means you're not missing much with the latest one. Whether or not the motion controls make it more fun is debatable; since I haven't played it I don't know. But since there are a number of other Wii games with motion-control mini-games already, this one seems rather superfluous.

The funny part is that most Wii fanboys have been hyping this game to be High A- High AA. That is why the review score is funny.

-_- The review criticizes it for being chance driven... which board game ISN'T chance driven?! I mean... you don't say snakes and ladders suck because it's chance driven... These reviews are terrible.

There's chance and then there's rape.  Probably because some of the landing spots penalize too much or reward too much which makes the game unfair when it happens.

I'm guessing that by that they mean it reduces the player's role in the game. If that's the case, then it's a valid point. Would you rather have more influence over you results or just watch the game play for you?

Anyone who thought this was being hyped wasn't paying attention. Anyone who expected more from a Mario Party game deserved to be burned. A game that comes out as often as Madden is just as often the same quality as Madden.

I have a good rule. One Mario Party game per system. I will pick this up tomorrow and ignore 9, 10, 11, and maybe 12.

*Bows* Thank you. And you are correct in your statement that motion controls don't automatically make a game more fun. A crap game with motion controls will still be crap, even if it is innovative crap. It can, however, enhance a good experience. Right now, for example, I'm having loads of fun throttling and pistol-whipping gangsters in Godfather. But I digress...

You do know those "Above the Influence" commercials are 99.9% bullcrap, right? US policy towards marajuana (which is what most of those commercials target, not the real dangers like Meth, Cocaine, and Ecstasy as a few examples) still seems to be based upon Reefer Madness, a cheap propaganda film that has been proven false on all levels.

Marajuana only makes you do one thing according to the research..it makes you want to eat cookie dough.

Exactly what I was expecting. No online play, no big improvements just the same old god damn thing they've done since the

N64. I'm actually amazed that people still buy this junk. Live by Myiamoto's motto instead of mass producing mediocre games.

Did anybody care that Nintendo (or rather Hudson) were trying to resurrect the Mario Party corpse once again? The series died with the fifth installment (some may say earlier).

I couldn't give a fig about sales, the series has stagnant, choresome gameplay.

I'm a Nintendo fan but there is no way I shall defend this lumbering zombie of a series.

Hmmmm Ninty lacking in innovation and graphics...

whats the world coming too.

Shame Mario Party has some much potential on Wii.

I've said it many times before but people are buying Wii coz

a) Cheap

b) Ninty name

c) great branded games from past

d) most important the WII remote

e) DS coolness

f) Great advertisments

g) Last generation graphics still here HDTV still minority

.... now as cool as it is that Ninty is making shed loads of money to safe bank their next few consoles. I WANT Ninty to be back where they were Innovation, Gameplay and Graphics. Apart from innovation in hardware the software hasnt revolutionized as mucha s I'd hoped. Gameplay & Graphics have been disappointing. Difficult with a average processor and such but still.

I hope they make a HDWII. pretty pleae. I know it would be hard to implement and get developers to put effort into a HDWII version ass well as a Wii version. But fingers crossed.

Coz the Wii is just not what i wanted. its where I wanted it to be in pop & sales. BUT.............

They're developed by Hudson Soft. Nintendo only publishes them. Probably partly the reason why the MP series is one of, if not the weakest of the spin-off Mario games.

Marajuana only makes you do one thing according to the research..it makes you want to eat cookie dough.

Runningflame570

Actually, I find it's KFC for me. Munchies = KFC or bust. And playing games is great too. Rez is the best.

Wait, I probably wasn't supposed to mention that, was I? :?

I won't have had it down as a must have game. It is a series that doesn't seem to be going anywhere and they should stop making Mario Party games. It is just the same all the time. I am a big fan of Mario but Mario Party is not a series I like.

Let's see.....this week both the 360 and Wii got major game releases and, oh look! The Wii game sucks and Forza 2 is the freaking bomb! I hope you Wii owners can still justify your purchase now cause this is going to be the trend for quite some time, trust me.
