Come on Nintendo!!!

Words cannot explain the dissapointment I felt when I saw the first gameplay of Skyward Sword let alon their other offerings such as Kirby and Donkey Kong. (Epic Mickey looked great though) Nintendo Franchises Like Zelda and Metroid have such potential and it just seems like the Wiimote and lack of power of the Wii are holding it back. Something needs to change.

Personally I love practically every Nintendo franchise but it seems like Nintendo is too worried about maintaining the integrity of their most beloved franchises to make groundbreaking changes. I mean come on, it's 2010 Zelda needs voice overs and a story worth experiencing (mostly referring to the more recent Zelda's), the Metroid Universe has so much potential but we are yet to see a true "next gen" Metroid in my opinion. (Other M may change that)

I look at games like Mass Effect, Bioshock, and Uncharted.... the immersiveness, the sound, and the gameplay and think. What if Nintendo looked at games like this when making games like Mario, Metroid, etc.

There is an apparent disconnect when I play games Like Zelda and Mario Galaxy. I know I'm not the only one.

What do you guys think? Do Nintendo Franchises need a revamp? Or are you just happy with the "same old same old."

We literally have seen nothing other than some gameplay elements on Skyward Sword, nothing on story, design, layout, and pacing.

Dead give away kiddo.

flclempire

What do you mean? I played most of the Zelda and main Mario games and I think that Zelda would benefit from having voice acting. Link doesn't have to speak but it would be nice if the other characters did.

I don't want Nintendo to do anything that pleases you. If they please you they will become like everyone else and piss me off in the process. I like my boring mario, metroid and zelda thank you very much. I don't want ****ing Mario to be ground breaking. **** that. I want it to be fun and enjoyable and not lose its soul.

I avoid most FPS games as well (except Bioshock) I genuinely love most Nintendo games. All i'm saying is that it would be nice to see some more out of them like story etc. The gameplay is usually great.

What are you talking about? Mario is and has been groundbreaking. It is quite arguably the best platformer series ever. All I'm saying is that I want to see more out of them in areas other than gameplay.

there is nothing for Mario to be ground breaking over anymore. It is the best platforming series ever but what the hell does Mario need to advance in besides gameplay (which is already fantastic)? Music? SMG and SMG2 probably have the best and most expansive orchestrated soundtracks in platfroming. graphics? They are beautiful games, always have been always will be. etc. What the hell should mario learn from mass effect and uncharted? How to try and have some sort of story? Naw, Mario needs to keep being Mario.

As long as the quality stays excellent, let them keep going. It's much better than many exclusives on PS3/360,

I guess Mario was a bad example. But I wouldn't like to see another Mario Galaxy. The first one was great to me but the second was just more of the same(which isn't necessarily a bad thing." I just thought it would be nice to see something different, kind of like how Mario Galaxy was different.

Skyward Sword is changing Zelda's Gameplay, Metroid Other M won't be like Prime, This is the first New Kirby Game we've seen in years, Donkey Kong too, Xenoblade is a New IP, so is The Last Story, and So is Endless Ocean, and so is "Wii title" games.

We've also seen Madworld, Conduit, Red Steel, No More Heroes and Little Kings Story as New IPs as well as the Return of A Boy and His Blob, The Excite series and Punch-Out with the Wii and Isn't Raving Rabbids (the 3 Party games and Go Home and the upcoming one) a New IP? (and granted the first 2 Rabbid games weren't Exclusive but the other 2 are.)

One of the best aspects of Mario is the simplicity, it doesn't need to be anything else than fun.

Zelda, perhaps it could use a little bit more of plot but nothing dark or mature like some people claim, it is a fairy tale, is the epitome of adventure, that's why i love Zelda and as long as the gameplay improves and the game mechanics evolve, i'm happy with the Link vs Ganondor to save Zelda plot.

Metroid, well, Other M is trying to go deeper in Samus story, i feel that is the only franchise that could go into that direction thanks to the Sci Fi element, so let's see how this turns.

Yeah, because the Metroid Prime TRILogy was a set of FPS, or FPA, as sheep like to call them, and Metroid: Other M is a completely different game worked on by a completely different developing team... AND Halo and KZ have had the same developer for their entire series, save Halo Wars which was an RTS by some other developer. Oh, and inb4LOL BUT U GET TEH REHASH FPS FPS ARE TEH EVIL NINTENDO ARE TEH GOOD LETS BAN FPS EVEN THO WE DONT PLAY EM OTHER THAN CONDUIT WHICH KINDA SUCKED INNOVATIONZ FTW EVEN THO THERES NOT REALLY ANY INNOVATIONZ AT ALL, ITS JUST ME USING THE WIIMOTE W/ THE SAME GAME FROM20 YEARS AGO ^Obviously this is bull, besides the "Not every Ninty game innovates at all" part which is true. When it's an extremely milked franchise like COD that doesn't really progress at all, that's where you need something groundbreaking to help the franchise get back on its feet (Even though it sells way too much). When you got some milkage but the milk is good and not broken and there's absolutely no need to fix it, you got Mario, and you got a fun game. So, no, not every sequel has to be groundbreaking or revolutionary, there's very few at all. It'd be nice if COD would do this, but with all the copies the franchise sells, they don't really need it all.

I could see how someone who didn't play the games could think thatGunSmith1_basic
Well that's where you are wrong. I own and have played every 3-D Mario and Zelda Games, I still have a number of the 2-D games in my household and have played enough Metroid to come to my conclusion.

I'll never understand how someone can call Zelda stale when there are such huge differences between the many games in the series. Play Adventure of Link, Minish Cap, Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Oracle of Ages/Seasons, and The Four Swords Adventures and then tell me the series is stale. Those games are radically different takes on a tried and true formula.

There was a mess of Half Life being a FPS or not too.

Eh somewhat. On the one hand i think. sigh all they keep bringing out is the same franchises over and over. On the other i think, "I CANT WAIT FOR NEW ZELDA OMG OMG OMG OMG!" So It can't be that stale.

The no. 1 best thing about Nintendo

They know how to keep up the quality in each of their different franchises, no matter how many sequels there are. They know WHEN to innovate and HOW

Unlike certain other companies cough*SquareEnix*cough

Well to be fair. Twlight Princess was stale. It re-used too much from OOT i mean some parts were almost blatantly taken and re-skined. For example the 4 poes in the arbiters ground just had me going "LOL forest temple".
