They just said that to make people keep buying the original Gears. So they can milk it as long as they can. Then when sales get slow... Release a big PR thing about it, maybe with some new screen shots.

08?  How about E3 07?  The motto could be "Continue the Fight - 2008".

I'm sure that Mark Rein is trying his best to keep any news about Gears 2 from getting out.  He doesn't want to steal away any of the thunder for Unreal Tournament 3 and has probably been told to keep shut by MS (for an E3-style announcement).
