Poll Mass effect 2 or Deus Ex Human Revolution? (54 votes)

Mass Effect 2 better 59%
Deus Ex human revolution wins 41%

Im late to the party. So probably Im not going to get attention. But...I had to try....

I get a new laptop and I searching for games to get addicted to. I love space operas and Cyberpunk influenced games. So I checked those two games.

Deus Ex Human revolution is an AMAZING game. Maybe a better focused experience. At the beggining it almost felt It was a game changer for me like Flashback and Half-Life 1 were decades ago. But then... it becomes quite repetitive. Mostly because of being so focused on stealth gameplay. It could be ok, if they didn't try to sell you can choose between steatlh and Shooter. I find quite frustrating not being able to at least have one little shooting, one single bulet and I'm dead. Even being improved with praxis my heatlh, etc.... then the Story runs out of gas in the middle of the game.

Mass effect 2, otherwise, even having less option to confront situations, at least is what it is. a Shooter.
The storytelling is not so robust as it is in Deus Ex HR, and the levels not so interactive, but there are far more diverse characters, environments, etc...so, it's understandable.

Im not sure wich one has better graphics neither.

Both are hybrids, but really diferent from each other. And Both are two of the greatest games of this past 2 decades to me, but....

Wich one do you prefer? let me know your thoughts please.

I go with Deus Ex: Human Revolution just because it's a deeper RPG game then it was for Mass Effect 2 and Human Revolution also kinda shares similarities in the Anime, Ghost in the Shell for a cyberpunk theme.

Both great series let down by this generation. I'd have to go with ME2 although it's close.

Human Revolution was satisfactory but it fell short of my (admittedly lofty) expectations.

Mass Effect 2 on the other hand was a revelation. I consider Mass Effect 1 mediocre at best. Mass Effect 2 was better at everything and actually made me interested in the franchise. It is probably the best Bioware game since Dragon Age: Origins.

What I don't get is how is Human Revolution a deeper RPG than Mass Effect 2. Both have choices and consequences but in Mass Effect 2 I think you had a lot more (even if most of the consequences were witnessed in the third game). You had many more interaction with NPCs and a lot more dialogue.

I like both.

If you already have played ME1 then go with ME2. Its a continuous story

If you havent then HR is the best way to go cause you dont need the OG Deus Ex to understand whats going on

Overall I think I enjoyed ME2 the most cause its world is better developed than Deus Ex. All the Illumitati nonsense and the relation between Augs/Racism is uninteresting and poorly done imo.

So, in conclusion: Deus Ex has better gameplay, Mass Effect has better world/story/characters

because of the hoops you have to go through to get all the dlc and still have to pay full price for each piece.

Mass Effect has much better writing, characters, and honestly, a better plot. Human Revolution is very interesting, but Jensen has to be one of the worst protagonists in a while. The world just feels colorless and dull.

HR has better gameplay (debatable) at least in how it lets you tackle missions. It also allows for more customization than ME: 2 does.

Not to mention, no controller support and I couldn't use my Xbox Elite Controller on the PC version. I don't like using KB/M on just about any 3rd person games. (Also applies to ME3)

I don't think Human Revolution can be described as a "game changer". It did nothing that the original Deus Ex didn't do 16 years earlier.

Anyway, I voted for Mass Effect 2. The story was crap and the writing was hilariously bad, but it was a lot of fun from start to finish.

I asked because i plan to give Mass Effect 2 a go .. Eh, if there's a solution to fix these issues, i don't care. Playing these games on ancient systems is more of a pain in the ass than whatever shit i gotta do to make them work properly on my desktop.

I tuned the first Mass Effect with fantastic results (may as well look and play like a remake of the 360 version). There are probably similar stuff i can do with Mass Effect 2.

Human Revolution, it was a streamlined Deus Ex with better game feel. Yeah it lacked some of the original's depth, but the overall gameplay was still leagues better than what you're getting from Mass Effect 2's brand of mediocre third person cover shooting. The stealth was mostly engaging, exploration actually had some genuine fucking value, side missions were actually interesting, and the level design was dope. The boss fights were shit tho, no getting around that one.

What kind of comparision is that? Deus Ex HR obviously. game was masterpiece in 2011. a game that bring back classic Deus Ex franchise. compare to Mass effect 2 which was gears of war clone with wall cover.

sadly mankind divided didnot live up and is just a DLC of HR.

Oh yeah right.

F*ck.

I forgot about this.

F*cking Bioware and their stupid Bioware points.

I actually bought all the DLCs for every ME and DA series except DAI. All separately. I hate myself.

Deus Ex : Human Revolution. The insane amount of detail to the world they've created and the subtle touches (like the cracked mirror in Jensen's apartment) they've added to the storytelling far eclipse anything shown in Mass Effect 2.

EDIT : Regarding the boss fights - all the reviews I read complained about them so when I got the game and started playing it, I made sure I fully upgraded Typhoon just so that I could be prepared. Every boss fight was finished in one or two blasts of Typhoon, except for the lass boss. Never had any problems, really.

I was about to protest to your original post but your reason is actually very valid. Even today the Mass Effect collections and such don't have DLC included (as far as I know) and they are still expensive.

DEHR actually does the RPG aspect better than ME2, but ME2 destroys it in gameplay. Whilst I think the HR story is mildly better, I didn't really think ME2 was much of a slouch... In -so-far as video game stories go.

ME:2, it's just more grand and epic, plus it has you play as Sheppard who you already know and love from the first, while Human revolution starts you off as someone new, going away from the much loved J.C. Denton.

@fend_oblivion:

Well, the level of detail is one of the things that really amazed me. But then, I just figure that mass effect 2 has far more enviroments , characters....so, obviusly it couldn't have all that level of detail and interaction. and unlike mass effect 3, it's quite amazing what you can do in all these city hubs.

As I said, I think Deus Ex HR benefits for having a more compact story, with more closed enviroments. Both in the storytelling and interactivity. ( exploring a random appartment and finiding a VIP card to enter to The Hive instead of infiltrating or paying for it. it was brilliant).

Mass effect 2 simply can not compite with deus ex HR at that level for the things I said ahead, a much larger universe. And even with that, you can do a lot of things there.

I also think, both have a lot of RPG elements. diferent one from another. Weapon and armor (body) customization is better in Deus, but Kharma, Personal relationships, choices and strategy elements in combat, are real winner in Mass effect 2.

I just couldn't say wich one I love the most. But being honest, In an advanced play I feel Im more addicted to mass effect 2 than to DEHR. For example, I was 4 hours straigh to tali loyalty mission, to the collectors ship and then that little graphic adventure Samara's loyalty mission (basic instinc, species anyone) ?! was. Bu I tried Deus Ex and again hidding into the descks and air conducts to be killed with one single shot. Only if the shooter elements were a little bit more balanced with the steath...Maybe it's my faul. because the steath thing requires patience I don't have....

Nah, I highly disagree. Jensen is a good protagonist. It seems nowadays every protagonist has to be "goofy Nathan Drake like" to be likeable... people are asking for the death of the "grumpy, deep voice and cool" protagonist like its a bad thing. There is place for both depending on the type of game. Jensen (just like DC Denton before him) fit very well in the Deus Ex universe. If this world had yet another goofy protagonist cracking jokes left and right it would be just silly

@jord:

The Mass Effect series is very bad IMHO in terms of gameplay. I think slide to cover was only implemented in the 3rd game. Mechanically speaking, the Mass Effect games are poor third-person shooters. And buggy too - the amount of times I got the MC stuck in the world geometry... ugh.

Some aspects of the ME series I liked (Tali' most of all), but the way they handled the third entry was utterly gauche.

I preferred Deus Ex : Human Revolution a lot more than the Mass Effect games. The themes of the game (like transhumanism for example), the biomechatronic prostheses etc all seem relevant in this day and age. Simply check out Hugh Herr on YouTube and see how far we've come along in terms of combining tech with the human body. And the gameplay - like I said before, it pays to invest in the Typhoon early. Any time you are overwhelmed, be it a boss or a mob of enemies, the Typhon will suffice. One thing I didn't like was that stealth was rewarded with more XP than going all-out. It didn't seem fair at all, and yes, always going for stealth can be annoying and trying on one's nerves. The endings could have done better instead of the switch flipping nonsense and the last few segments of the game contained a lot of useless padding. But all in all, DE:HR is a fantastic game.

I don't know about Mankind Divided - most people are saying that it feels a lot like HR 1.5 than a full fledged sequel.

Easy, one is good and the other is really bad, and that's why ME2 wins

The only redeeming aspect of Deus Ex HR is it's cyberpunk setting, which is really all it has going for it, it's bad as an RPG, the main character sucks, the game lacks meaningful choice in how one carries out tasks or upgrades their character, the combat gameplay sucks and relies too heavily on stealth, the mechanics themselves are very rigid.

Now, about the cyberpunk setting, again, it's only redeeming aspect, and maybe the weight attached to its name over the respect people have for the original game. That aside, the series will be dead to everyone else when Cyberpunk 2077 releases.

Anyhow, if you haven't already, check out the Syndicate games like Syndicate and Syndicate Wars if you can. Those were awesome.
