Has it reached 10 million units? Or half of that amount?

I mean it is a very accessible "RPG" for those who enjoy story-telling and just shooting everything in their way; so it does appeal to the mainstream audience.

Starcraft 2 is the opposite of ME 2 in terms of target crowd.

Starcraft 2 strife to please the competitive gaming community. But as far as I know, Starcraft 2 has sold more than Mass Effect 2 in a shorter period of time. From Blizzard's history, it games usually continue to sell even years after the launch.

Weird, really. A hardcore game outselling a mainstream, multi-platform game.

Starcraft 2 aims to please both the casual and hardcore crowd. Starcraft is one of those easy to learn, difficult to master games. Furthermore to help new or less skilled players SC2 even had special challanges made to prepare people for the competitive online scene, and even when you go online first you have the option of accepting the practice league.

In other words, SC2 also appeals to the mainstream audience. Also, SC franchise is highly established especially in Korea, Blizzard are one of the most prestigious developers out there with a huge fanbase willing to buy anything they produce, SC2 is the best at what it does and what it does is competitive multiplayer (which further attracts more sales), ME2 isnt particulary good at anything it is a poor shooter and an even worse RPG.

Starcraft 2 also has the progamer crowd as a third target audience, and people dismiss it as being a small number but it isn't. Between pros and semi pros and people trying to become pros, theres dozens to hundreds of thousands, and many of these buy several copies of the game for smurf accounts and to play on more competitive regions like korean servers.

There's also the small fact that Starcraft 2 is miles better than ME2.

ME1 didn't sell too great either. ME hasn't been able to hold much of a fanbase other than the hardcore
