Everyone is a fanboy of something i would guess, and I am a fanboy of a couple things. Assassins creed, littlebigplanet, uncharted, perhaps pokemon. But Mass Effect I would normally defend to the death of all things. I have always loved it, I have always considered it one of the best franchises in the business and I will be there day one to pick up my limited edition ME3.

Anyone though, i hate to say it....a bit underwhelmed?

I think im excited for it most because i get to finally finish the fight with shepard. Its the story that i love, and i cant wait to see how it wraps up.......but a sequel needs more than just continued story. Mass Effect 2, though not everyone will agree it was for the better, did quite alot to the Mass Effect formula. And the closer the game came, with its a hundred and two trailers, the more i salivated. But i just dont feel the same this time. Mass Effect 3 looks like its just adding another power or two and calling it a day. I hate to say it, but even though it will be a fantastic game, im so far convinced it also gonna be a LAZY SEQUEL.

Maybe Im just being super picky. Perhaps.....but anyone surprised at how sorta, idk, underwhelming Mass Effect 3 is appearing at the moment?

Keep hope alive bro. its gonna be good but great like the previous games? Thats something all devs struggle with. Making the third game as great as the first two isn't easy i'm sure. I'm pumped for Bioshock Infinite maybe you should focus on that game to take your mind off the potential of ME3 sucking.

yeah number 3 is always a hard game to pull off cus everyone already sorta knows what to expect and the game is confined to sorta just finishing the fight. I remember a dev talking about that before, about how he hates making the THIRD of any franchise, i forget who said that. .......bioshock infinite is gonna rock tho lol

What possibly could be more exciting than an even more streamlined experience than ME2?!!?!?!? Now dialogue wheel will basically say in bracketc of course "pick me, I'm the dick choice" or "pick me, I'm the good choice" and no matter what you pick the result will be the exact same and the game will tell you that too :P But seriously, I'm sure you have nothing to fear.

The problem is that they haven't actually shown us anything that interesting. The best so far was the Maw vs Reaper trailer, and even that looked a bit... underwhelming overall since it took place on Tuchanka [which already looked like a total wreck] and ended up looking kind of like a Gears of War clone.

Though I will say that the actual Maw vs Reaper fight almost blew me away.

The problem is that the trailer debut was for the Spike VGA awards. Given the kind of crowd at the VGA's that they had to pander to, its no suprrise that there was very little of actual interest going on.

Mass Effect 2 was good, but personally I gave it a big meh. I'm really not hyped at all for ME3.

i hope im wrong, but i fear they pull a dragon age 2, after all the success the first two games had they can release a mediocre game thet everyone will buy regardless. But it wouldn't be fair to end a great trilogy like that, altough we know ea couldn't care less about players.

Agree with you, TC. The original Mass Effect is in my top 5 games of this gen. ME3 looks exactly what happened to DA--->DA2. Every video i saw (and i've seen them all) looked like a simplified version of ME made for 'bro gamers'. This is the reason i'm not very hyped for ME3... There's a chance of ME3 turning out to be great but its very slim and its probably gonna be like Gears with couple of perks/powers.

I'm not. even though Shepard is my character . I'm tired of the whole galaxy has to depend on one person to save it or only the one hero can make a difference theme over and over and over. It's a hero worshiping mentalility. If it has to end let it have decent closure and things can move on. It only makes the galaxy and it's inhabitance small and useless when such huge events is so effected by pivital moments of what Shepard does. One of the reasons why I love Mass Effect and is not just because it is a Sci-Fi, RPG and Futuristic game is but it showed that the galaxy was huge, with nigh on countless possibilities, other species, factions and organisations more profound then humans and it didn't revolve around us( in other ways it made us sort of insignificant, but it makes things epic that way) I havn't looked at any of the spoilers, but I am still worried that Bioware may have cut back on the RPG, exploration and stories from around the galaxy to instead focus more on combat mechanics and the Reapers ( well the Reaper threat has to be focused on obviously)

the whole attention on combat and action etc is for mass market appeal. Mass Effect doesn't have the history, fanbase and depth like the Elders Scrolls series, and though I agree with TC it maybe a neccessary evil for the game to be more action orientated to attract more gamers. I do wonder if it's possible for Mass Effect to gain a large following like other Sci Fi (Space MMO's anyway) such as Eve Online, X3 etc while attaining Skyrim like depthness.

I doubt that ME3 will be a bad game but I have to agree. This looks just like another ME, so I know exactly what to expect. The tacked on multiplayer doesn't help either. That's why I'm far more excited about Dishonored and Prey 2 in 2012.

I was worried about ME3 all last year TC, EA seem to have fallen back onto mediocre sequels (shame because they were doing well for a while there this gen) and it looks like ME has seriously derailed from where it started (but we already knew that from the second game which while great was very different from the first). I don't think there is going to be any middle ground for me with Mass Effect 3, I will either love it or hate it.

That's a good thing. A trilogy is enough to tell a story. They're giving up on Shepard but not on the me universe. That will help keeping the serie fresh and interesting.

I'm certainly more concerned about it well, sucking, than the previous two, whether that's due to Dragon Age II (different studio, mind you), Arrival, EA, the quite alarmingly crap marketing thus far, but I'm still cautiously optimistic. I'm a huge Mass Effect fan, so I'm still pretty hyped, and provided it concludes the story in a sensible manner, it should still be brilliant, but it certainly has me more on edge than the previous two. Essentially, if the entire game is like Lair of the Shadow Broker, it will win GotY pretty much everywhere, if the entire game is like Arrival, it will suck badly, and I'm not entirely sure which of these they'll end up going towards.

I admit, I'm a little underwhelmed too. It doesn't feel like Bioware/EA are trying to build the hype at the moment, but there is a demo releasing this month. Maybe after the demo they'll start releasing a bit more information again.

Dragon Age II was made by the same studio who did the Mass Effect series (and Dragon Age: Origins for that matter).

It's just that Dragon Age II was made by a different development team within the same studio (BioWare Edmonton).

But apparently a ton of work in Mass Effect 3 is being done by a completely different studio (BioWare Montreal) who previously worked on the Mass Effect 2 DLC.

They just better keep the expansiveness, not sacrificing the universe and atmosphere for the action. I can't shake the feeling that BioWare will do that.

Thats the thing that puzzles me alot too, and somebody else also said that.... The marketting for the game is pretty bad. Maybe the game would get me more excited if they showed me more reason to be, but the videos all are sorta dull, focusing on action and not how the mass effect formula is getting tweaked. The game is certainly gonna be on a more epic scale, the trailers have confirmed that at least. But the fact for example that the trailer had an on rails turret segment? Thats also suggesting to me the audience this game is more catered for. Im afraid like others of mentioned, that mass effect 3 will officially lose the very thing that made mass effect stand out from the competition in the first place

That's the problem when people set their expectations sky-high. They are bound to feel underwhelmed. I am keeping my expectations reasonable and thus, I have no reason to be underwhelmed.

Feel the same, but this kind of lazy developing has been going on all generation. Look at Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, GeoW, Forza, and a good many other popular games. Sequels have been really unambitious this year, and thats probably because they are just not spending enough time on them anymore.

I've been wondering when EA will start the marketing for a while now. It's bound to start soon. Can't really blame them for holding off on the hype during the holiday rush.

At least the leaked footage looks decent.
