BioWare's much-anticipated Xbox 360 RPG Mass Effect has finally been pencilled in for release this September, months after the June/July arrival date previously expected.

The news comes from an official Microsoft event this morning, though no more details on the release were offered.

The September release puts Mass Effect in head-to-head competition with fellow first-party RPG Blue Dragon, which is also released that month. This might seem silly to you budding industry analysts, but it's probably just as beneficial for Microsoft to avoid the infamous Summer drought.

Advertisement: BioWare's latest picked up one of the first CVG Most Wanted awards this weekend, and rightly so - because we're quite literally counting the days until its arrival (or at least we are now that we have a date to count down to).

I think we'll be seeing Halo 3 in November, as it's probably the best time to release games + the previous 2 Halo's + Gears of War have been released then.

You guys are going to being eating your words tomorrow when its reported by gamespot (I'll be bumping this dont worry).  Theyve never posted false info before so they are just as reliable as anyone else out there.

i think they will continue the nov 16 realease dates for halo

Id prefer an AAA Mass Effect to an AA Mass Effect so even though we wont be able to play it earlier at least its going to be better/more polished.

are you suprised or something?  when was the last time a big name game was released in june-august? all the good games come sep-nov, its looking like a big xmas this year.

Ugh, that really sucks if true.  Mass effect is my most anticipated game.

Still, Forza and Blue Dragon, followed by Bioshock.  Not a shabby summer.

yes im surprised, but think about it,

halo 3 will be realeased near nov-oct, and ms wont realese 2 killa apps in such short time

People traditionally buy less games and systems in the summer months.

Though people said the same thing about January but Lost Planet did really well.

As long as it's early September I'm okay with it.

School starts in October for me. 

The 360 gets Forza 3, Blue Dragon, and then Bioshock.

No drought, unless both BD and Bioshock get pushed back.  Basically, one good game a month.  AAA titles?  Who knows, but honestly, I can say with confidence the calibur of these games will be high.

Not with Forza 2 coming and Gears still in full Gear over live.  Great MP games eat up months of time.  If a system managed to release only 2 great MP games in a year I would have a hard time complaining about it.

I guess no new games for a while damn it

I haven't wanted any games since Gears when I got my 360. Now Ihave to wait like a full year it seems for the next holiday season.

And I don't think I'll get Bioshock cause there's too many other games to buy in Q4

Earlier today Computer and Video Gamesreported that the much anticipated Microsoft-published RPG from BioWare, Mass Effect, will be released in September. Many were expecting a release in the June/July period, so a September release would represent a "delay" of sorts.

 

That said, a Microsoft spokesperson told GameDaily BIZ today, "We have not made any official announcements regarding release timing for Mass Effect. At this time, any information about the game's release date is purely rumor and speculation."

 

When further pressed, because the CVG report said the news came from an official MS event, the spokesperson reiterated that a release date for Mass Effect has not been announced, despite what CVG claims.Microsoft
