Mass Effect is amazing (very minor spoilers)

Ok, so i bought mass effect (i usually would only rent an 8.5 game but i was at ebgames xmas shopinn neways) last thursday and i really took my time and did all the side quests i could find, i only clocked in at around 25 hours. anyway, thats not why im writing this, im writing this because i NEED to.

I NEED to post a message here because people need to talk about how amazing of a game it was! I have seen so many threads bashing this game but i bet non of them have even played it! I own a Wii with metroid, smg, and zelda. I own a 360 with Halo , Gears and Oblivion, all 9.5+ games. Well, after playing Mass Effect from start to finish i am probly never going to go by gamespots review again because they are just SO wrong, this game is above SMG, above Halo 3 (except multiplayer). The game was just "really good" up until about Virmire and everything from Virmire on was pure gold, best gaming experience of my life, the story is the best ever told in gaming and people who have any doubts NEED to buy this game.

Dont you (people who have beat it) agree that the last two or three hours were amazing?

well the entire main story is good, the sidequests get riduculously repetitive and once you play them you probably won't do them again. The story is great, best story i can remember since Halo CE. The combat is really mixed and you cn get a ton of kicks out of the game by just playing through as multiple classes. I'd say it's abut a 9 overall, there are some technical problems, not framerate it was fine for me or pop-in, i'm talkin about getting stuck on random surfaces in your ship, if there wasn't an auto save feature when you rech your ship i'd have lost many hours of gameplay.

The game is damn good though, i'm on my third playthrough.

I was going to pick it up. But after hearing about the frame-rate and technical shortcomings, I was so turned off by it. The problems that KOTOR had, looks like to be in this game, and that just turned me off of KOTOR.

It is very possible GSdid the same for both games.

Framerate issues are extremely minor, it was only noticable once for myself.

You only rent games that GS rates an 8.5? What about TeamXbox giving it a 9.6? IGN a 9.4? All other critics giving it AAA? Oh, GS only matters here... :roll:

Just because some people are lemmings who say that Ratchet and Clank is not justifiable doesn't mean that he thinks the same thing. Banshee only said that Gamespot took the problems too seriously. He never said Ratchet and Clank didn't deserve a better score. But you still automatically call him a lemming because of that. You are just another cow. One review, by ONE website that didn't meet the hype doesn't mean that the game is a flop...

I agree 1000%, for me Mass Effect is one of those rare AAAAAA games that come once per decade, it is THAT amazing, with 10000x more replayability than any game to date, i am 35 hours now overall, in my second play as adept, just can't stop playing, apart from stunning looking and the best looking console title IMO so far, the game is simply epic in scale, exploration, deep RPG gameplay and strategic battles, especially in the hardcore mode i play

Best game of all time for me, gamespot review was just wrong, it is like giving Zelda OOT 1/10 because you did not like the shoe model of Link !!!! The game is a clear 10/10 for me, in fact the ONLY game that desrves such a score this gen

I learned a while back to never trust Gamespot reviews. Any other review you look at gives this game great scores. This game is easily better than Halo or almost any game out there right now. The story is one of the best ever told in the game and the replayability is great. The few glitches barely effect the game at all.matt2012

I played through and I gotta say, it's really really boring. At first it seemed really great but it was just the hype. It's an ok game. I'm having more fun with Umbrella Chronicles right now though.

Technical issues, which you look past after the first hour or so. They are disappointing, but not score revoking. If there were no issues with ME, it would easily be a 9.5 here and everywhere else

ME is currently 91.8 on GameRankings. I think GameSpot gave it precisely the right score, but that's because I haven't finished the story yet, and the story is the most important part of the game. Based on gameplay alone, though, I think GameSpot gave the right score, or maybe even slightly overrated it. But again, I'm not yet finished with the game.

It beats BioWare's other console offerings, including KOTOR. And it's easily the best 360 game to date. I'm a long-time BioWare fan and I was only disappointed in the unexplored planets. The rest of the game is pretty majestic, including the combat.

also i think it is one of the best stories in a game this year. but not in my top five best game stories of all time.

it is a very good game. i love it. i am playing through it with an adept now. but i feel gamespot was justified in its scoring.

Yeah, that's not really saying much. I've yet to experience the full story, so I'm reserving final judgment, but so far the game design just SCREAMS incomplete. Outside of the main quest, everything is so bloody repetitive, and outside of the Citadel, everything feels so empty. (I've only completed Noveria, Feros, and Artemis Tau, btw.)

Tell me: are there any more locations similar in size and lushness to the Citadel?

it is not even what i cant stand about the game. i can forgive the frame rate... i cant forgive the mako... i cant stand that thing. I did not really explore planets just because i hated driving in that thing so much.

if the mako was not in the game i think i would rate the game 9.0!

no there is not. the citadel is all you get. i wish there were more side missions there. i travel back there a few times hoping to unlock more missions.

QFT. BioWare should've completely scrapped the Mako and just used teleporters and trams or something, because it has one of the worst vehicle controls I've ever had the displeasure of using.

no there is not. the citadel is all you get. i wish there were more side missions there. i travel back there a few times hoping to unlock more missions.

If BioWare ever releases an expansion pack to this game, it had BETTER be a new cluster of FULLY populated planets. Not these goddamn backwater colonies and refugee camps. They just make the game feel smaller.

Heh, I've also only completed those exact three, actually. I don't think there are any cities outside of the Citadel and the one on Noveria, though. That's one of my big gripes with the game; the general exploring is admittedly a little lackluster, because of the lack of cities and the overly barren planets (with identical building blueprints). I don't deny that at all. I just don't think even that's enough to take away from the rest of the game. I think more detailed and populated planets would've been great, but it would've just been the cherry on top to an already fantastic game.

Maybe my experience was unique then because i didnt have any frame rate issues, althought i did have texture popping but it was definitly forgiveable. The Mako didnt bother me at all, i dont understand this stuff about not being able to aim. all you do is just hold LT and click thr right stick and you can basically disintegrate everything that you can see. Oh, and to those of you who are slightly unerwhelmed but havent finished the game.... just wait.. the ending is sooo intense it will make you forget about everything else. just do me one favor and come post in this thread again after your done it.

Are you kidding me? This game runs at 30FPS max. Even during friggin slow scenes. And the texture appearing 5 seconds late....WTF.

I get the gripes about controlling the Mako's movement, because it's annoying, but the aiming seems easy enough. In fact, if anything, the Mako vehicle is quite overpowered. Especially if you use the main gun as opposed to the machine gun, which is often one-hit kill on anything.

Sometimes I only have to wonder if everyone knows that the Mako has a powerful main gun. I always kill everything so quickly in the Mako vehicle, to the point where I often get out of it to fight on-foot, because it's funner and harder.

it is the fact that when you aim.. you might not be aiming there. I constantly was shooting over peoples heads although the aiming rectile was directly over the enemy... they should not let you aim somewhere that you can not shoot. If the battle was not onflat ground i always ditched the mako to just fight onfoot.if i want to come over a mountian blasting away i should be able to, i should not have to wait till i am on even ground before being able to shoot enemys. when i can jump out of the mako and shoot them. it makes no logical sense that i am not able to blast them.

they pop there head up, spit pop back underground and then desintagrate when they die. even the other animals on the planets (the monkeys, the horse looking things ect) have better animations. I really liked the threasher battles too. they were one of the few times i did not mind driving the mako.

ME deserved 8.5 as much as r&c deserved 7.5mistervengeance

i might, (MIGHT) bump r and c up to 8.0 i have not decided yet. I played through it once and have not gone back to it. I am jsut undecided on it. it seemed to be missing some of the charm from the other r & c's
