Mass Effect is going to be a huge dissapointment for a lot of people.

My friend picked it up at his local K-mart and I got a chance to check the game out. It has its strong points (The amazing storyline and character development), however there are blaring faults that will drag this game into the ground for a lot of players.

1. Textures take forever to load, for example you go into a conversation with a character and it can take upwards to 5 seconds for their blocky head to get "flesherized". Its creepy as hell. It also happens on planets noticably in the backgrounds and on characters, it happens more then in GOW.

2. Weapons and Armor look Supra Generic. When you get your first "Scorpion" or whatever its called armor set you're like, "Omg this is pretty steller". Then you finally realise after Scorpion armor set rank IIV, "Wow I'm stupid, this is just Scorpion armor set I but a different shade of crayola". The weapons all look the same (For example assault rifles of different makes look suspiciously similar) and when you recieve a new weapon/set of armor at the end of a mission or from exploring a planet it never really seems like that big of an accomplisment because its simply a damage increase. No individuality for you mister Shepard!

3. Remember how I told you about exploring a planet and not feeling any sort of accomplishment? Well another reason is because the majority of the planets seem tossed in without a whole lot of creative juice flowin. The vast majority of planets have no indiginous life forms and - Spoiler below-

SPOILERS Once you've duked it out with one Giant Sand worm it gets old. Srsly. SPOILERS

-they mostly are devoid of life and rife with the bounty of boring firearms.

4. And last but not least, the combat is clunky and your team-mates....well let me just say it seems as though inbreeding doesnt appear to only be an issue on earth.

But besides these and the blaring drops in frame rate lets talk about whats good.

-AMAZING STORYLINE

-FANTASTIC DIALOGUE

-SUPERB CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

-OUTSTANDING MUSICAL SCORE

-SEXY GRAPHICS WHEN SHEPPARD ISNT THE BLOCK MONSTER FROM PLANET ATARIII 65

-ADEPTS ARE COOLIO AND BIOTICS ARE CRAZY FUN.

Okay, so final words, its a good game, not perfect and it can be frustrating as hell sometimes. I plan on buying it despite these flaws because of how superfantasticamazing the story is. Its around an 8.5.

- Graphical pop-ins are very much obvious, but they are in other big games too(Crysis). Frankly if Halo 2 on Xbox didn't get score demoted because of it then this game won't either.

Rather nitpicky, aren't we? Complaining because the assault rifles look the same? Maybe if the pistol looked identical to the assault rifle, it would be a point worth bringing up. And texture streaming? That's that critical to your enjoyment of the game? You yourself bring up that Mass Effect has a fantastic storyline, dialogue, music, characters, etc, and even graphics, and one of your "huge disappointment" cons is about slightly delayed texture streaming? Come on man, a little perspective.

crysis does have a lot of pop-ins, but in a game with a draw distance of 16 km. I think thats kinda to be expected.

i have all 3 consoles, so no real dog in the fight here. This week i got both mario galaxy and mass effect(happy to get it early). These are two amazing games. But anyways mass effect is the topic. The only thing ill really agree with there is some texture pop in, the faces are pretty darn good, but some textures in the distance will change a bit while walking around.

First thing you do when you get the game is go to options and turn off the "cinematic visual" whatever option. makes it look like an old movie which is weird.

I gotta say so far the story, characters, and combat are pretty awesome. Nice mix of KOTOR and GEOW elements, but this is a RPG first.

My predicition is a 9-9.5, wont get a 10.

The pop-ins don't sound appealing but how is the frame rate? That is one area that might be a deal breaker for me. On the other hand, I was able to enjoy KOTOR on a graphics card that for whatever reason hated the game and refused to give me a stable frame rate. For me an RPG lives or dies by the interaction between your character and the game world. If it has lots of interesting NPCs and environments to explore I could overlook just about any flaw. Pop-ins happen on modded xbox 360s when playing games using Unreal Engine 3. Notice how op is having the same issue with Gears of War? 100% busted.

That would have to do with your dvd-rom. Without saying too much, people dont use modchips in xbox 360s.

some people do report this issue for other UE3 games, but its almost always because of a modded xbox 360. UE3 streams textures from the disc.

I didn't notice any pop-in but it does have that lil stutter when loading another area, similar to Oblivion. Anyways, i just started cause i finally beat AC last night. What a big difference! I feel like im going to fall asleep playing this game. lol The only thing that amazes me so far are the facial animations. Hopefully it gets better :?

P.S. Anyone went into the gentleman's club & got a table dance? hahahaha Here's a line from one of the characters that caught me by surprise, "Secrets are like herpes, if you got'em, you wanna spread'em." :lol::lol:

I didn't play any RPG for over two years now, I don't wanna be dissapointed by this game, I have high hopes for it.

Someone else whoever played it, give us your impressions.

You guys dont want to believe is more like it. Im not saying it's a terrible game. It was already like 12am when i started playing, im freaking tired & all im saying is it made me more tired. It started off with action & then went RPG on me. lol I just finished AC, so im in fast paced mode....that's why im going to give this game a shot either tomorrow or over the weekend when im awake. ;)

Im also going to check out Kane & Lynch tomorrow. Someone told me there were some bad reviews for it already? That suX!

I think the score on Kane and Lynch is too harsh. It is not AAA material, but it is not a 6. :evil: I would give it a 7.5 to 8. If you liked freedom fighters, you will like this game. I actually like the story and find the gun play to be fun.
