I've only played ME, and even then only played through about a third of the content, so I'm interested in how Fallout compares to another mature, polished RPG like ME.

From what I've seen, the story in Fallout seems to be much more grim than ME.

Can't go wrong with either. I'd sway towards fallout 3 - but that might just be cos i've completed ME and I have only just got going with fallout 3.

Fallout 3 is actually a more free roaming RPG. Personally, I'm enjoying Fallout 3 more than Mass Effect just because it has that go anywhere, do anything feeling. Mass Effect was too confined and there wasn't enough towns/cities with side quests for my taste. I hated that stupid Mako driving too, talk about a snoozefest. Mass Effect was a really good game, but I think Fallout 3 is better.

Mass effect felt very narrow, too many scripted events and the speeh system made the whole thing look badly acted as nothing said was timed right.

Mass Effect feels more focused, its like playing through a good action movie. I havent played any other game that matches its dialogue system and character animations. I thought it was a bit short and the universe was kind of crappy aside from main quest locations.

I like Fallout 3 more just cause theres so much more content, andits world is more detailed and compact.

Mass Effect without a doubt. After having just finished Fallout 3 I would rate it 8 out of 10 at best. Yes there is a fair bit to do but eventually that 'to do' becomes repetitive anduninspiring.

In Mass Effect the games leads to a crescendo and you feel like everything you do whether exciting or repetitive si part of a grand purpose.

After finishing Fallout 3 I felt... meh.

After finish ME I felt this was not only the best game of this generation but one of the best artistic mediums of any kind I have ever experienced but for the most part that is lost on the gaming community who only cares about shooting and looting.

Except that you never revisit any of the planets you visit, your choices frequently have the same outcome (even the same dialogue options) or no consequences at all, and the game ends just as the 'war' is beginning, so you feel like you've only finished the tutorial rather than actually accomplishing anything.

Anyway, I'd say that Mass Effect is easily one of Bioware's worst RPGs (for any number of reasons), so I guess that Fallout 3 would be better. You'd still be better off playing The Witcher or the NWN2 expansion, though.

Just like with Oblivion i felt like i didn't make progress while playing Fallout 3. The leveling system makes me feel like i grow weaker instead of stronger, so at the start i actually tried not to level.
I'd go with Mass Effect, simply because i like a little bit of guidance. Those open world games are nothing for me.

do no under any circumstances get Mass Effect. It is one of the worst RPGs bioware has ever made and a very poor WRPG all round, if you have any love for their previous works or games like Planescape don't get it

I haven't played Fallout 3 yet but I dont see how it could be worse, Although I'd reccomend storm of Zehir or Witcher special edition before  that

KungfuKitten
That's probably why you felt weak. Fallout 3 is much more skill based. Level up your skills accordingly and you'll do fantastic.

For instance if you plan on doing a lot of shooting (hi, me) then put most of your points in either the small or big guns skill in addition to repair and medicine..Bump up your perception and agility attributes also. Don't try to put 2 points here and 5 points there in the skills, you are guaranteed to be weak. take a chance and just build up skills that you know you will use the most. You will kick ass.And for gods sake people DO MOIRA'S QUEST. The Wasteland survival guide is not only cool to do it's incredibly beneficial to your character development. I am able to walk around the map with no worries..That is until I ran into a deathclaw haven..That was a close one...( thank you bottle cap mines)

Honestly that an extremely difficult choice, Mass Effect is beyond amazing when it comes to sci-fi RPG's, and Fallout 3 is also almost equally as amazing... now that I think about it the two games are kind of similar when it comes to gameplay... but Fallout 3 does the whole open ended thing better, and Mass effect has a much better story, universe, and characters.

You need to add a Tie pick in the poll.

Both games are spectacular. Only reason Mass Effect did not get AAA is becuase it has some slight technical issues.

Otherwise both games are 2 of the best ever. If you took both these gems and they made love you would create a GOD.

I have to add, the last half hour of Mass Effect is one of the most exciting conclusions that I have ever played through..It is truly epic.

Especially on a second playthough with a level 30+ character. You and your crew are absolutely BADASS.

fallout 3 is much better than mass effect. ME was a pretty average game with lame characters and even lamer side quests and total lack of variety everywhere. Fallout 3 did had its flaws but it still had its good points like interesting quests , great use of character stats etc

I enjoy Fallout 3 alot more, fantastic game. So much to do, and the quests are such good fun, compared to Oblivion they are all pretty unique. Voice acting and dialouge is still pretty hit and miss though.

Mass Effect could get quite boring for long periods of time, mostly doing side quests. Yeah sure I could have avoided them, but they made up about half the game, and it was only about 30 hours long at that. However, even though it wasn't as fun, it was definatly much better written. The plot is fantastic. Some would say it's too slow, but then I don't really understand where they are coming from. Each main planet is like an episode from a Sci-Fi series. You arrive at planet XXXX in your bad ass space ship, assemble a squad, leave for the surface, and uncover the planets mysteries and leave very quickly having got what you came for. It worked very well, because the universe they created for it was fantastic. Very entertaining. Dialouge is probably some of the best in any game to date, and there is alot of it (It's better than KoTOR on any account. Sorry, but it just is. Though as a whole I would say it isn't quite as good.). The game also comes to a fantasic climax, and that's unusual for most games. Had they spent more time making meaningful side quests, Mass Effect could have been the very best game I have played in a long time. BioWare acknowledged the bad side quests, so hopes up for ME2!

Still overall I prefer Fallout 3, just because I have had alot more fun with it, and it's taken me twice as long to get through it.

Fallout 3 for me. Personally I found ME to be a very boring game, terribly boring :p . Fallout on the other hand I haven't stopped playing since I bought it! I love the sense of isolation and the underlining theme of a corrupt government. I just hit 102 hours on my main character last night with just one more side mission and the the main quest to go, but I've extensively explored and have done just about everything. It's a fantastic game. (Anyone else at 100,000 caps?)

And Fallout 1 is better then Fallout 2. But seeing as that isn't what the TC is asking, I'm gonna stick with my answer of Fallout 3.

I'm still undecided on that matter. I'm still playing through Fallout 2. And if nothing else, it seems to have a lot more in it than the original, which I like :3 But yeah, to answer the original question, I say Mass Effect. Just 'cause.
