It is going to be a trilogy but I was wondering about something. How will the sequals story play out. In the game you are able to make choices that effect the story and a bunch of other things. will ME2 just ignore that or do they plan on somehow allowing a peson to continue from where they end up in the first one.pintabear49blue
they said they were brainstorming ideas on what they are going to do. Loading past save games is being considered.

One of three ways:
a) Your character is carried over, if desired. All the choices, stats, etc. of your character can be brought over. They've already said that they want to do this.
b) KOTOR way. When discussing events, the NPCs will typically have foggy memories, and you have to help them recall what happened in the past game.
c) They somehow work around it.

It depends on how the first game ends.
If there are two vastly different endings (like in KOTOR, or whatever), then the sequel will have to have two different storylines, which would be rather difficult to make.
If that's the case, they'll probably just pick the 'best' ending and run with it.
*edit* Or, as I said earlier, it won't be a direct sequel, and so the ending of the first game won't have a huge effect on the second game's story.
My guess would be that either the endings don't differ much, or the next game won't be a direct sequel.Planeforger

it is kinda short and has alot of framrate issues, its still probabaly gonna be good but how good will determine if its merely a trilogy or tons of games.

Bioware said that they are definatly doing a trilogy. I wouldn't want tons of mass effect games anyway. There are problems with the game, but the positives outweigh the negatives IMO.

True. When I said tons I games, I probabaly should have said that the game would not die off once the trilogy is over. The game looks great but I am hoping they dont just emulate the KOTOR experience. I hope they do more because with problems like short game and bad framerate you might as well play KOTOR. So what i mean is the game needs to bring something to the genre that KOTOR didnt in order to make a big impact.

It feels very different that kotor, thats for sure, more epic. The combat works well and isn't sloppy, far better that Kotors. The side quests are also greatly improved. It seems to fully experience the game you have to finish most of the side quests. The biggest problems are the FPS, the enemy AI and the main story length (if you do the side quests you can easily get another 25 hours out of it). I have the game BTW.

Cool, I plan on getting it.
But when I said it needs to add something new, I did not mean expand and tweak what KOTOR already has done. Its pretty much assumed that ME will expand upon already established principles of KOTOR, but is there anything in there that KOTOR does not have?

Alot of stuff actually. Vehicle combat, more places to travel to, the combat feels alot different (although its built on the same concept), level design feels different, and since its not star wars related there is a sense of discovery all through the game.

I played Kotor years ago so my memory is a bit hazy. Your vehicle is a major part of the game now, the dialogue system and your party's AI is fantastic. I know there's more, but I can't remember Kotor too well. They expand on a lot of priciples, but they change them so much you feel like it's something new. Like exploration, with the Galaxy map exploring is now a major part of the game, every world or moon you can go onto there's a unique environment. You can find ancient data files telling you information on more planets, items, crashed satilites you can hack or just wierd monsters. City's look spectacular and alive, lots of quests to do in them as well.

I can't remember kotor very well, so there is definatly new stuff. It's just they expanded, re-invented and evolutionized a lot of things. If your worried it will feel too much like Kotor then you can stop worrying now. It's an entirely different game in many regards.

I know I already said it feels that way once you told me about the vehicles.
I know it will be good either way I am just still looking into it.
Mass Effect has always been intended to be a trilogy. Their intention is to let you carry your character over into ME2 and then onto ME3, so it's all obviously a continuation.
This game has been amazing so far, but the prospect of the aforementioned in the sequels is even more exciting.
[QUOTE="Planeforger"]My guess would be that either the endings don't differ much, or the next game won't be a direct sequel.Tiefster
Actually Bioware said you can use your old ME save game for ME2, your character and decisions will load into the new game and the universe will have reacted accordingly.
you get 3 choices everytime you can
that's so next gen
mistervengeance
There are cases where there are more than three.
And I don't think a game with like 10 choices for each question would be very fun.
The dialogue system is new and intuitive enough on it's own without needing more sentence selections. It's not like many things you do IRL have more than three potential outcomes, is it? I mean "Shall we go save those miners?" "Yes, No, I dunno what do you think?".
"I won't tell you anything" "Then I'll kill you, please c'mon, fine whatever".
You don't need lots of choices in that regard.
But there there... Don't cry, you'll get to play this incredible game on your PC in only a few short years!
That is actually a very good question. Maybe the different endings aren't all that different...
Wasdie
They are different, head over to the Gaf and read thru their Mass Effect thread, or just look at my response a little bit up there...
