Mass Effect Remaster is potentially on the way! The company is: "absolutely actively looking at it"

Last year, Electronic Arts VP Patrick Soderlund told Game Informer that the company was focused on developing new properties, not remastering old ones like, say, Mass Effect. But times have changed, and in a new interview from Gamescom, Soderlund strongly hinted that a Mass Effect redo is likely to happen.

“What's changed is that there is proof in the market that people want it, maybe more than there was when we spoke,” he said, when asked about the possibility of a Mass Effect trilogy redo. “There were some that did it before, but I think there is even more clear evidence that this is something that people really want. The honest answer is that we are absolutely actively looking at it. I can't announce anything today, but you can expect us most likely to follow our fellow partners in Activision and other companies that have done this successfully.”

Activision, you'll recall, announced earlier this year that a remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be released in November alongside (but, sadly, not separate from) COD: Infinite Warfare. That news, I think, caused at least as much of a stir as the reveal of the brand-new game.

EA has to be careful about which brands it chooses to remake, and ensure that they're redone properly, so players “feel that it's the same game but it feels so much better in this new shape and form,” Soderlund said. “There have been titles that have come out that have done it really well, and there have been others that maybe haven't done it so well. We just want to make sure that we stay in the 'done it really well' camp."

As hard as it is to believe, the original Mass Effect is pushing ten years old, which makes it a prime candidate for a fresh coat of paint—and especially so with Mass Effect: Andromeda waiting in the wings. But there are plenty of other EA properties that could do with the same sort of treatment, like Black and White or Battlefield 2142; hell, I'd pay good money for a Command & Conquer: Renegade remake. I'm not going to hold my breath, though.

Speaking of Mass Effect, the "franchise" (although it's really just the first two parts, because of that whole thing with Origin) is on sale on Steam for 85 percent off until August 19.

Only way I'd consider it is if it contained all the Mass Effect games and all the downloadable content.

Better and more popular games are in priority.

In the run up to Mass Effect: Andromeda, a lot of folks will want to replay the original trilogy. Mass Effect is one of the greatest series of games ever made, so a remaster will happen. It makes sense to do it. ME1 needs a huge overall update, the combat is outdated as hell and the item inventory needs to be fix as well.

I would presume all the DLC to be included all except the one that got corrupted, Pinnacle Station I think it was called. Mass Effect 1 only had one DLC: Bring down the sky, which is the first time we meet the batarians.

i haven't played the DLCs so i hope they include all of them , i mean they have to.

it is infuriating that the collection on pc doesn't include any dlc and the only way to get it is through bioware's website at full price

Why are people excited to play what they've already played to death? I love ME, one of my fav series around but i wouldn't play this even if it was given to me for free. Buy the game on pc (doesn't take much to run this old relic) and beat it NOW instead of waiting for a possible remaster that will run you $40+. I don't get how could anyone be excited for a remaster.

Mass Effect Andromeda delays in 3... 2... 1...

If these are the barebones remasters, I'll probably pass on them. But if they are more in line with how Modern Warfare is looking, or what Halo 2 Anniversary is like... well I'll definitely look into it. Knew EA couldn't leave that remaster money on the table.

Despite being a massive ME fan I'm not sure I would like to replay the games. I have fond memories of the trilogy and look forward to the next game, when I tried to replay ME1 last year, I just wasn't as compelled because I know the story so well, there's lots of dialogue. Will see

i haven't played the DLCs and i kinda rushed the first one so it'd be awesome for me to replay them with better graphics, i was gonna replay them anyway but when there's a better version why settle for the old one?

Yeah that's a given, considering the fact that they haven't shown anything of the gameplay yet and of course, the remasters.

Don't wanna get my hopes up, after all, it's EA. They should focus more on the first one as it's the one which is outdated.

I'm not at all excited for gen 7 remasters. Seriously, it was annhd generation more or less. Total waste of developer resources for a cash-in. I hate it that peoplw actually get excited for this.

I'm not pro remasters either but some games would benefit from an overhaul and Mass Effect 1 is a definite candidate. The game came out like 10 years ago.

The ME games still look fine,they don´t really need a remaster. Kotor would make way more sense. Jade Empire would be great as well.

In fact,lots of other(EA) games would make more sense. Why not remake Black? That shit went under the radar(well,kinda hyped back then but quickly forgotten) and its kinda hard to find these days,a remaster would be pretty cool. Plenty others fit the mold.

I guess from a business standpoint it makes sense,that´s why the TLOU remaster sold pretty well even though it came out just a freaking year later...

As I said about this remaster on the article comments, meh. Maybe they want to implement the saves or just for a quick buck from those who will rebuy/people who didn't play them before. I'd be damned if they try to push it for more than 60 with all DLC included.

Yeah man, Jade Empire remake would have my attention. Better yet Bioware, Jade Empire 2 would have me salivating. :D

Well maybe some but I imagine the overlap between owners of both is pretty sizeable. Going through forums it looked like most people interested in it had already played it tbh,and were more into the graphical enhancements than anything.

Jade Empire was pretty good. A bit on the easy side,short and simple as **** but still pretty enjoyable for the story,lore and characters. I´d be way more into a new JE than a new ME by a long shot.

Besides,it had Minister Sheng,the best character Bioware has ever written. :p

My memories of JE are that it was a very pretty game on OG Xbox at launch. The environments and art was top notch and the fighting very satisfying with good story as well. Lol at the last part, yeah, good stuff.

Now, ME:A is right at the top of my most anticipated games but I suppose a JE2 would be right there with it. Hmm, maybe your right tho, a JE2 may even surpass ME:A just because JE never got a sequel, why, I do not know.

That´s part of it,ME already had three games and has a fourth on the way so that universe was already pretty deeply explored,JE though,only had one game and was thematically pretty unique for a sp rpg(and games in general),so it feels like a lot more could be done with the franchise.

And before you come at me and say "if you dont want it dont buy it" NO! To hell with you and your opinion! If you support remasters you're just incentivating devs to fund and rehash their old stuff instead of trying something new.

Devs: "Well, with this much money we can make this new game or, wait for it, remaster our 2011 game that people played not that many years ago"

Pubs: "How much money did our last remaster collection?"

Pubs accountant: "This much"

Pubs: "Yup, start polishing those graphics to 1080p. NOW!"

Could be good if they:

- Increase texture resolution

- Redo all of the lighting so its more dynamic and HDR support

- Fix inventory management in ME1

- Higher poly models for both characters and world geometry

It's a good idea IF done right, there should be a significant difference between the two versions.

Personally i think a game of the following aspects can be a good candidate for getting a remaster:

- Atleast an 8 years old game

- Being so popular at the time

- High demand for it currently

So, for instance, Mass Effect 1 and CoD MW1 are good candidates

even the PC version is rather visually rough around the edges.

I wonder how far they'd go, like if they would keep the wonky combat system from ME1 or bring it in line with ME 2 and 3.

If they do a lazy remaster they yea absolutely pointless but if they put in some effort, I'd probably play through the trilogy again

This is a remaster I would like to have and I have been waiting for it since the start of this Gen. I had always forsaken the idea of playing this series because it was excessively reliant on narrative and some of the gameplay components always did bother me. This is the chance for me to pick it up and sit down to see how I fare against it after five years of procrastination.

Can't be bothered. I have all of them on PC.

anyhow, Dead Space trilogy is the only other major EA asset I'd like to see get and modern remaster

already own the trilogy on my PS3 so meh.
