From what i've seen i'd say ME, HL2s have more life in them butwhen you consider how many characters there are in ME its a pretty high standard. i cant wait to see how well the character customisation works with the lip sync and conversations it could be awsome.

Half Life because im a fanboy?

Its obvious your a fanboy, so how about you just click the big X at the top right of your browser, go to the start button at the bottom left and turn off computer. Then never turn it on again, okay?

This and Graphics have nothing to do with animation, hands down Alyx alone has the best animations in a game so far still.

That the facial animations have to be correct for more dialogue possibilities, based on what you choose to say or do.

That doesnt make them better, just more of them.

Mass Effect's facial animations aren't enarly as vibrant and detailed. They look better, but they just don't have the same level of detail.

mass effect has over 30x the amount of dialog and facial animations that it has to do in comparison to hl2

also take that into account

and its still better

mass effect has over 4 times the amount of polygons on screenin facial expressions and animations.

Hl2 is very low-poly. So it looks crappy regardless

TClms5400
Graphics and how it looks have very little to do with the actual detail of the animations themselves. The Source engine wins BY FAR when it comes to facial animations. Anyone can see just watching videos of the two that Alyx's facial animations are much more detailed than Mass Effect.

Half-Life 2.

I also think it's amazing how an engine from a game released 2004, can stand up to a game releasing late 2007 (facial animation wise of course).

You find it amazing that Valve knows how to keep their engine up to date? You really don't have a lot of faith in one of the best developers of all time.

Actually I do.
I mean the original Half-Life 2 for the PC, which doesn't recieve these 'major' updates, when Episode 1 and 2 have seen.

Mass Effect has almost ZERO facial Animation, no wrinkling, no muscle movement, no emotions what so ever, just talking 3dmax models.

Facial detail: Mass Effect

Facial animation: HL2

Watch alyx when she talks, stands there or fights. Her face has brilliant animation and while ME's is still great I think its alittle stiff and not and smooth and flowing and HL2.
