Mass Effect's "Sex Scene"

for those who've played the game: how vulgar is that sex scene I've been hearing about?

I ask because when I heard there was going to be a sex scene that basically made me lose all my interest in the game. To think bioware would resort to pornography to sell a game is dissapointing. BUT, after reading the reviews my interest level increased again, so now I'm humbly asking just how bad it gets? Like, I don't want my mom to walk in while that scene plays out. That would just be weird..

It happens once, it's not mandatory and it's hardly graphic at all (probably because the US version is pretty censored).

I'd say don't let it ruin what would otherwise be a great game.

Not even a nipple is shown as far as I know. Someone posted the 'girl on girl' clip a while back and I have to say, I've seen more obscene "sex scenes" on televison.

I don't understand why the inclusion of a minimially explicit sex scene would turn you away from the game though, I personally don't see them as a big deal. Sex is a part of life..and despite what some seem to think, it can be included in a game without being a "gimmick."

Work on your reading comprehension. Who said anything about lust? I said that I see it as a valid PLOT mechanic. Sex =/= Pornography. :| Games should NOT include sex just for the hell of it (see: gimmick implementations of sex, such as those in Grand Theft Auto)

Well it depends on how graphic(if that's the right word) itis. If it's just a kiss and camera zooms off and you know what happens afterwards but don't see it, it's not a big deal. But, this is just for me, if it's a little more detailed and part of the major plot and unskippable, then that sucks.

And video games need to start expanding their horizons and show that they can convey emotion and drama just as well as TV and movies can. And yes, as much as the idea frightens you, that also means sex.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I am utterly sick of the absolute hypocrisy of being okay with violence in video games and television and yet finding sex so horrible and unacceptable. Hello? There's no moral dilemma there. Violence is clearly much worse than sex. Either find the two unnacceptable or you're a hypocrite, plain and simple.

If the TC would admit that he has just as big a problem with you shooting aliens in the face in Mass Effect as having sex with them, I wouldn't consider him a hypocrite. If not, then he is, and deserves to be bashed.

If it wasn't for politicians and ignorant people like the TC, we would of NEVER payed much attention to the scene.

Labeling it as pornography rather than a form of expression is exactly what compromises video games as a work of art. Sure there are some products that sells sex, but for someone to overlook so many fine aspects of Mass Effect, like its art direction, storytelling, game design and focus on one particular 2 min, optional scene as a reason to boycott it is ridiculous

The reason reasonable violence is ok in my book is because we unfortunetly see it everywhere. It's out in the open. Sex, to me, is something that is intimate and personal. As in, it shouldn't be out in the open. When I see a couple kissing or whatever on the screen I get uncomfortable, because I don't care to see others doing the nasty or what have you.
