The last time I checked it was the main story is the important thing in any game, specially RPGs, lemmings now are justifying their purchase for mass flop because it is teh has more side quests than the mean story, lol.

I mean how low you gonna get to make some silly logic for Mass flop?

Sorry lemmings, but the flop trend is gonna start with you from now.

You can't exclude side quests from the length of a game, last time I checked, they're still a part of it.

Oblivions main quest was only about 14 hours but i spent 45 hourson it doing side quests. Side quests are an important part of rpg's, they mix up gameplay and story. An rpg without side quests would suck. This topic is wrong.

Oh no, lots of side quests in an RPG? That's terrible! Why, Oblivion had a lot of those, and we all know that was one of the worst games ever. Hell, the Final Fantasy games have always been full of sidequests, and that's why no one likes the series. Seriously, it's very fitting that your name is "credibilityzero", because that's really about how much credibility you have with comments like that. Do you know anything about RPGs? The ones that are too linear are pretty widely criticized. Nice try though.

Oh, and the flop comment? Don't make me laugh. I don't know what console you support, but if it's not the 360, you've had more than your share of flops, so don't be jealous.

Jurassic Park was a best-selling novel by Michael Crichton. It sold incredibly well and had quite good reviews, and it spawned a blockbuster movies series, and two novel sequels. Do I smell self-ownage?

You sound like a jeolous cow who has to come around and call things flops without any evidence to feel better. Then when looking at your other posts it is obvious this is true. You should probably not advertise you have no credibility before we even read your drivel. If your name was different you might dupe someone every once in a while into thinking you made a good point.

I was unaware there was an accurate definition regarding the length an RPG is required to be. FF6 on the SNES could be finished in around 15-20 hours and is consindered one of the best RPG's still to this date. Oblivion's main quest was also short, but was also a non-linear game, which increased it's play time when factoring in all of the side quests.

Thank you, I do want to do sidequests with branching paths that turn out differently each time giving me the choice to do whatever I want to, which is what a true role playing game is.

just finished the game for the first time about 30 minutes ago, man that game was awesome. story is incredible. I didnt do too many side quests because this was my first time through and it took me 16 hours, though that doesnt count the many times i died and reloaded hehe. I also reloaded a bunch of times to try a different dialogue tree in a given conversation. Anyways, with lots of sidequests, im guessing its around 25 hours. Not bad, not incredibly long for an rpg, but the quality of the story makes up for it. I played this time as a soldier, so next time im going biotic heavy.

I dont remember who said it, but whoever said "no one likes the final fantasy series" is an idiot. Its only one of the best selling game franchises of all time.

Anyways, this game is great, probably my best experience of any game this gen so far. I have all 3 consoles so i guess thats saying something. Once i finish uncharted this weekend(im only on chapter 5), im gonna start mass effect over again.

It is? What's the next game that's going to flop? So far the entire ps3 lifespan has been a flop...so i really don't see how one 360 game misses it's mark by .5 and it's all of a sudden a big deal. Lair? Heavenly Sword? Ratchet and Clank? Mass Effect flopped yet still managed to easily out rank all of these games?

Bioshock, Halo 3, Orange Box, Assasins Creed, and Mass Effect...in the last 4 months the 360 has gotten 4 AAA titles and a AA title that is currently AAA at gamerankings. Anyone who tries to "own" the 360 library at this point is pretty much just "owning" themselves since no other currently console library can compete.

Like the grinding in MMORPGs and the mindless leveling in JRPGs...except that the side quests in games like KOTOR and Oblivion and Mass Effect give you something compelling to do as you level up. They are definitely not fluff to pad the number of hours you'll spend playing the game.

So far, I'm maybe 7 hours in and only on my 2nd planet.

You really, really need to do two things RIGHT now:

1.- Read up and learn what an RPG is.

2.- Read up and learn about Mass Effect.

Actually, the most troubling part is that he believes "lenght" is the main variable that makes a game an "RPG".

No one owned me yet.

There's a subtle difference between "not getting owned" and "not realizing you got horribly owned".

Yes it is not, a shooter with RPG elements is not a true RPG, now give me a rest and goback to my subject.

It's an RPG with shooter elements, ask anyone. You've obviously never played the game. You don't even know what the story is about.

[QUOTE="SpruceCaboose"]And Ratchet and Clank is less than 20, as is Uncharted, and Heavenly Sword. Point?credibilityzero

My point? It is an RPG, RPGs last at least 40 hours with main story.

Yeah, JRPG which have almost no side quests

lol, are you serious? the main stroy is 40 hours, you wanna do the side quests, fine, it will be between 80 to 120 hours, that is a true RPG game.

So now your implying Mass Effect isn't a true RPG? rofl, you fit you username perfectly.

And your subject was...? Oh yeah, that length of Mass Effect's main story = Mass flop. So, cow, you are getting blasted from all sides on this thread and your true colors are pretty clear. You give arbitrary criterion to push your point, but give no reason why said criterion are so crucial. The fact of the matter is that you probably have not played this game and know little to none about it except what you and your buddy bashers gossip about and fabricate. Take a hike.Please.
