"Here is the secret to enjoying Mass Effect: lower your expectations.
Mass Effect is not a revolutionary RPG -- hell, it's not even particularly innovative. It isn't a sprawling 40-hour epic, it doesn't include particularly great action, and it won't change the way we handle dialogue trees in role-playing games."
Hhhmm.
Hopefully they'll fix that in the sequal.the only thing i didnt like about it was that i couldnt have sex with both ashley and liara at the same time

Mass Effect flopped. Its a good game but many were saying it was set to be the best rpg of all time. stefanlek
There isn't anyone who considers it to be the best RPG of all time? I don't consider it to be but I have heard others saying it is their favorite. Who are you to say they are wrong?
Check out this review and Dont forget to see the banner(title) of this site ROFL.
Is Mass Effect a flawed masterpiece, then? No masterpiece at all? Crap? Genius? A mixture of the two?

Seriously, that review was awsome....well written, well explained, and a socre that mathced the words...
A+ Destructoid
no mass effect deserves much more then that and anyone who says otherwise clearly hasnt played it or hated it before they even started
That **** doesen't count for it's GR score does it?CrimzonTide
No but what is with the fascination with scores? Are people buying games to play them these days or more interested in boasting about the scores their games got and telling people how superior the games they play are based on someone elses opinion. That last bit wasn't meant for you but it's amazing to me how much people care about review scores now. I can remember a time when no one really cared or at least no where near as much as people do today. End rant.

I never said i agreed with the review, i said that is was an excellent review...
Gamespot, IGN, Gametrailers, 1UP, whoever, have been dishing out the biggest BS reviews lateley, this review is refreshing
Mass Effect in my book is an 8.5, that doesnt change the fact that Destructoids review puts the Big sites to shame
can i ask what was so good about the reveiw ?
i read it and it seemed pretty average to crap

They tend to give a good median of how good the game is; I find it very helpful when selecting games to buy. That review did a horrible job by overplaying the technical issues, it seemed as if he played it for the sole purpose of finding techinical issues, and ignoring the stronger parts of the game.

I agree and the review and site in general seems to be trying to cash in on what happened here at Gamespot and the general mistrust it created towards the larger gaming sites who get lots of revenue through ad money. They may have a different agenda but it really isn't that much less obvious then the larger sites and in the end it comes down to money in both cases. As for GR it has never helped me find the type of game i enjoy but if it helps you that's fine. My only problem is with people who use these scores as some sort of proof of the superiority of the games they enjoy and i wasn't referring to you when I talked about that. It just happened to be part of my rant.

Well they had three people review Twilight Princess, the same reviewer (Reverend Anthony)who reviewered Mass Effect also was one of the three who reviewed Twilight Princess. Gave it a 4. Also Naruto: Rise of a Ninja got a 8 there, so Naruto:Rise of a ninja> Mass Effect.

People need to just like what they like, and play the games based on personal experiences rather than what some site says about them.
If some of you actually take the time to read the review, you will see that important points about the game including gameplay, graphics, and other things are in fact true. Heck everything I read was true.
But of course its nature for the typical human being to jump to conclusions because of a books cover.
Whatever.
Well considering after 44 reviews on Metacritic Mass Effect is still 92% who cares what destructoid says. The majority of critics obviously disagree with that.

You haven't even read the review, have you? Did you even play and beat the majority of the game?
I have and A LOT of, if not all, the things they mention in the game are true.
But hey, its natural of people to jump to conclusions over the surface ofan object. In this case a lot of you guys are doing that and just going by the NUMBER SCORE they gave the game.
Be reasonable and take the time to understand why things get the criticism or praise that they get.

I could say I really love this one game give a 100 page review on it, but give it a 1/10. While the written review counts it should match with the score. The site rated Naruto: Rise of a Ninja as a 8, Naruto: Rise of a Ninja is good but not better than Mass Effect.

I agree with you. The game obviously has glaring flaws but personally, these flaws didn't annoy me alot to make me dislike the game. It's one of the best games I've played this year. The overall experience overshadows the game's issues. Maybe, it's because I was expecting them, or maybe because I was going in with the mentality that I'm playing an RPG and not a shooter *shrugs* Either way, I can't wait for ME2.
