Maximillian: Capcom being back to CAPGOD Again?

I've been thinking about this for a while. Seems like Capcom is back to being a top tier developer/publisher. Do you agree, SW? From the come back of Resident Evil, to Street Fighter 6 looking really good, to the massive success of Monster Hunter, and Mega Man Battle Network selling a million units. And can't forget DMC V!

Street Fighter 6 demo was rough looking.

But of course, and for some time now. I can only imagine how insane MW6 is gonna be like, and they better show it this year, its time.

That mech game Exowhatever will be a failure, tho. Don't know what they were thinking, but it'd be lucky to get a 7 here and mid 70's on meta.

Since around 2016 i heard that a lot of the higher ups at Capcom were replaced by youger people, the ones who grew by playing RE1, RE2, etc. I never got any confirmation of this being true or not, but it would make sense that Capcom began offering what gamers wanted if the ones in charge are the actual gamers that were all about capcom titles back in the 90's and early 2000's.

Didn't watch the vid, but Capcom typically works in waves, an old meme at this point. Enjoy it while they're riding high, they'll be sure to disappoint later lol.

Even looking at "recent" RE, same company that made 2make and 4make also made 3make and Village.

Starting with MHW capcom been releasing high high quality stuff.

@ConanTheStoner: RE3 Remake is super underrated in my opinion. It was a good, thrilling, fast paced adventure after RE2 Remake. I never completed the original RE3, so the handling of “source material” didn’t bother me.

And I really liked Village, too. 🤷‍♂️

As far as Capcom’s recent output, Street Fighter V seems to have been a turning point, though the game initially had a lukewarm reception. For me personally, Mega Man 11 (2018, I think) was a sign that Capcom was back. That was one of the best mainline Mega Man games, and it was an ode to a franchise that many thought Capcom was neglecting.

Sure, mileage may vary lol. Not gonna get into a RE megapost. Regardless of what I think, those games were generally well received. 3make less so, but not like a dumpster fire either. I see them as lows, is what it is.

And yeah SFV was pretty dope from day 1. Gaming media made a shit storm over an arcade mode, normies followed. I almost got caught up in the negativity too. Then I bought it and had a great time with it. Thousands of hrs played, easily my favorite game last gen.

Yep, Capcom has been riding high for the past several years for sure. Street Fighter 6 looking really good. I tried the Exoprimal beta a little while and really enjoyed it. Very interested in seeing what Pragmata will be like. Super hyped for Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the next Monster Hunter game.

For me Capcom killed the RE franchise by going first person.

There is the Monster Hunter games, and I still have the first one they made for last gen but its such a time sink that I may never play it. They fumbled SF5 and what the hell is SF6?

@last_lap: I thought Capcom revitalized Resident Evil with VII: Biohazard. They brought back the scary aspect of the series. To me, Biohazard is the scariest game in the franchise, and it felt every bit a Resident Evil game as any (minus the beloved campiness).

Capcom is probably my favorite developer besides Nintendo. So maybe I have some sort of fanboy bias.

For me Capcom is tied with Nintendo as my current favourite developer. My breakdown for their recent games is:

God Tier:

- Monster Hunter World

- Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

- Monster Hunter Rise

- Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

- Devil May Cry 5

- Resident Evil 2 Remake

- Resident Evil 4 Remake

Excellent Tier:

- Resident Evil Village

- Street Fighter V

Good Tier:

- Resident Evil 3 Remake

- Resident Evil 7

I also love the game collections that they’ve been putting out such as the Arcade Stadium bundles, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, Beat ‘Em Up Collection, Fighting Game Collection, Mega Man Legacy Collection, Mega Man X Legacy Collection, etc. As a big Capcom fan they’ve just been giving me all the stuff that I love. Still want to see them show Breath of Fire, Dino Crisis, Onimusha, and Final Fight some love too.

@The_Deepblue: Each to their own, its why I stated for me. I'm just not a fan of first-person perspective. Having said that, I still play games with that perspective, just not that often.

For me the last truly great RE game was Code Veronica. Now I know that very few, if any, would agree, but it's just how I feel.

You folks don't use the Youtube feature "dont reccomend channel" enough. You see any sort of exagerated face on a thumbnail, you know it's a good idea to use that feature so you can never see it again.

Pff, I dunno. The RE2 and RE4 remakes are good, but the originals already were good. I think Capcom should receive more flak if they weren't good than praise if they were, if you catch my drift. Take a great game, slap new graphics on it, make some modern gameplay updates and change some things shouldn't be too hard, especially for a big ass company like Capcom.

RE3 and RE8 sucked. SF6 looks a bit.. I dunno. Not really feeling it.

I want a new Monster Hunter. Should they make one that's at least as good or better than MHW, I will love them.

Res evil 4 remake was a blurry mess on PlayStation.

MHW ticks all three of those boxes so should not be a surprise.

my friend and I (after I spent a long time convincing him it would be a game we could drop dozens of hours in together... because cute kitty companions!) forced ourselves through 10+ hours of arguably the worst game I have ever played.

My friend literally wanted me to refund his €35 he spent on MHW:Iceborne. It was that bad lool.

I played on PC, terrific game. What dev doesn't put out patches for their games? You keep calling Redfall a 7/10 and offering fellation towards Arkane while RE4R released in an objectively better state than Redfall did, but RE4R is a mess?

@simple-facts: Eh, I got RE4R for PS5 at launch and had a great time with it. Game looked and played great. Had zero issues with it myself. 🤷‍♂️

@Litchie: extremely clunky. like you're controlling a drunk person with two left feet. It honestly feels like I am playing with my toes when I play MHW's garbage combat system.

They've been 'back' for a while. Yeah, they're working at top tier status right now. Enjoy it. I was going to do a thread about this recently. Capcom is operating on all cylinders atm, and it's great to see. They're actively putting a lot of other devs/pubs to shame.
