I just beat the Leviathan boss battle. The gameplay was absolutely TERRIBLE in this part due to the bad camera and the overall combat mechanics but DAMN was this sh*t fvckin EPIC!!! It gave me the shivers with the music and the scenery... last time I've seen such an insane epic moment was on Bayonetta and I loved that sh*t more than my mother (not really)

This scene alone made FF XV pass from an ok game to a great one for me.

So I ask you, in a day and age when gamers cry and moan about epic set pieces with shit gameplay have you ever had a poorly done part in a game that gave you the shivers? I still enjoy moments like these in games like Uncharted, GoW and such and I dont want them to go away as long as games dont rely its mechanics on them

edit: due to some confusion I edited the thread title

Shenmue's bike stage. I just forgave anything about that game because of what it was. Some of the QTE events were really unforgiving too.

Every boss battle in Wings of Vi feels like a pile of shit until you actually beat it.

weapon durability in zelda... they were survival mechanics that ended up being extremely intrusive for the moment to moment action.

I think some people have missed the purpose of the thread a wee bit. ;) ^

The topic creator is asking for moments that are mechanically bad but you liked anyway.

The entirety of Star Fox Zero is a rather frustrating and cumbersome experience. However, some of the boss battles provide really engaging and epic real-time fights that feel on the scale of more scripted titles while still retaining complete agency and danger at all times. If the game wasn't such a pain to control, I'd even love to replay these fights. All the same, these moments and the dog fights are still epic even if the controls hamper the experience.

Space Harrier segment in Bayonetta. I get that Kamiya really loves that game, I get that he must have been giddy as **** to be working with Sega and thus having access to the soundtrack so he could make a full on space harrier segment in his own game. But as someone who had to try to Platinum every level, including the Jeanne fight that comes right after (my favorite part of the game no less), platinuming that space harrier sequence was annoying.

It's not as fluid as I would like, it's actually dizzying, and while I think Bayonetta's visual design is actually excellent in how everything animates, how good enemy tells are and all that jazz, it's actually troublesome during the rail sequence.

The part where in Bayonetta 2 the starfox outfit turns the jet level into a starfox level was a way fucking cooler thing by virtue of being more fun to play on a basic level, than a ghetto homage to Space harrier. With no disrespect intended towards Space Harrier, it's just that none of Kamiya's homages to it actually play as well as Space Harrier, which is weird.

Ninja Gaiden 2 stairway battle. Terrible slowdown. Off screen projectile spam from hell. So many enemies in such a tight space can get a bit annoying with the camera. Still totally bad ass.

Calling it poor on a mechanical level is a stretch, but it's a section where the game is technically at its worst while managing to somehow be awesome.

Was about to be like, no fucking way, it's the most hype moment in the game. Wind magic the shit out of those fuckers, limbs flying everywhere ,and that slow down showing the limbs in the air as they slowly make their way to the ground. The swamp area is way closer to bullshit, and any point where NG2 asks you to use the bow and arrow for a boss is way shittier.

Or the two armadillos because of that fucking camera.

@jg4xchamp:

Yeah, OP worded the title a bit weird.

Definitely some legit poor sections in NG2, but that was the only one I could think of that manages to be heavily flawed and awesome.

Oh I read his post, he wanted good parts that had issues. I guess NG2 fits.

Otherwise Asura's Wrath, the entire fucking game. The gameplay is terrible, it's not really much of a game. But you fucking crane kick a giant buddha in the game. That game is the best kind of stupid.

The dungeons in Persona 4 sucked balls. Game is a masterpiece though.
