If somebody said to you "I have a gaming laptop that can produce graphics better than Xbox 360 and can even play Crysis", how expensive do you think that laptop would be? Well, I have found such a laptop for that costs only $1349 USD. Its not that expensive, considering the fact that you will need a laptop for more than just gaming alone. Many people need a laptop these days (especially for work), so having an affordable laptop for both work and play is great value for money.

Here it is: the 17-inch Gateway P-6831FX gaming laptop. It has an 8800M GTS (512mb) and 3 gigs of RAM, so beating console graphics is a job too easy for this beauty:

I will never buy a pre-made computer for more than a grand. Especially Gateway.

I rather buy a PC. Just feel better for me for some reason. Otherwise that seems like a good laptop, but I'm pretty sure someone here will post a cheaper one with similar specs.

Well I guess you can design your own laptop, for example Dell and Alienware allow you to customise your laptop online. I'm not too sure about Gateway since they don't provide services here in Australia.

That's pretty damn impressive. But I wouldn't buy anything other than a PC for computer games. That reminds me, I gotta beef up my PC for Diablo 3.

Woooo, $1,349.99 is a bit pricey for those parts and performance. I'd much rather just build my own.

Yea I like to build em myself, lets me pick out the parts that I want and saves me a crapload of money. The PC I built myself has top of the line parts and a very pretty case costing only 1200 with a Samsung 22' Monitor. If I had bought this same PC from Dell, Alienware or Gateway it would have costed me 2400+ with no Monitor.

That laptop is pretty kickass though and has gotten great reviews.

The PC games I still play don't require that much performance so it would be a waste of money for me.

My thread proves nothing? This laptop DOES beat console graphics, so that point has been proven. And it IS affordable. Another point proven.

Mind giving me a reason why my thread proves nothing?

Over $1300 is not affordable at all. It only seems affordable to people that don't pay bills, aka 14 year olds and under or spoiled kids. If $1300 is more affordable than $300 than I need to have some of what you're smoking.

I wouldn't say that it is affordable. It is a cheap laptop if you count the value of the specs you get but that does not really make it affordable.

$1350 is a lot of money to fork out on laptop even if it is great.

Um, I pay bills and I have a $3200 desktop (AUD). I really don't know what you are talking about. Yes, $1300 USD is affordable for a machine that is good for work AND play. Many people NEED laptops regardless of whether they play games or not, so it is okay if its more expensive since you get more value from it. PCs are general-purpose machines, while consoles are watered-down PCs that are really only good for playing games (I would never browse the web with a Wii).

It appears that you are comparing this laptop DIRECTLY to consoles in pricing. I never said $1300 is more affordable than $300. When did I see that this laptop is cheaper than consoles? I only said that $1349 affordable in general. Multiplat games are better on PCs as well.

I have a solution. Buy a console for $300 to play games, and then buy a Dell laptop for $500 for your "work". There you have it, you just saved $500.

A $500 laptop IS affordable. Not one that cost $1350.

Yes. Considering that its a machine for work AND play. Sure, its more expensive, but the point here is better value for money. I never said that this laptop was cheaper than consoles, I said it has better value. Superior graphics, superior gameplay, portability, general-purpose computing, etc.

Most people that NEED laptops don't care about gaming so I don't really see the connection. If you are into PC gaming you don't buy a laptop you buy a real PC.

I bought my PS3 for $450 and my laptop for $600 that I need for my work, $1050 in total and a lot cheaper than this so called affordable $1350 laptop.

Problem: consoles have less graphics, worse online, inferior versions of multiplat games, little or no mods, lack of KB/M, longer load times, slower framerates, no NeverWinter Nighs 2, no Crysis etc.

That does still not make it affordable. If Ferrari would slice the price of their next car model by 20% it would be a very good deal with high value but that would still not make it affordable for most people.

A PS3 could just as easily be affordable then with the Blu-ray player and it's media center abilities.

Yes laptops are surpassing consoles in tech but not in any way price.

I also have a laptop so I know that they can work great with games but compared to desktops they are very expensive if you count the value in the tech you get. All I'm saying is that most people that NEED a laptop for work don't aren't gamers.

ONLY $1400 dollars? You're actually using that as ownage, $1400? Does it not make sense that it can beat console graphics when it costs as much as three PS3s?

What was I thinking when a I posted a gaming-related thread in a gaming-related forum on a gaming-related website? Somebody who does not care about gaming will not buy a console either.

Frankly I don't see the point of this thread. All you did was prove that a $1350 laptop can beat a $400 console in tech, well yeah it better do that for that price.

This laptop is no way affordable or cheap. It is a great deal with some awesome techs but it's not affordable for most people.

I have seen a few that said they don't around Gamespot. As for myself, I have a high-end desktop with a 9800GX2, E8500 CPU and 4 gigs of RAM. I do have a HDTV, but its only 720p and 26-inch. Nothing special really. Oh, and I created this thread for CONSOLE gamers, not PC gamers.

I can't imagine how much that would weight, so I'm guessing it would be impractical to carry around. $1300 is NOT affordable compared to consoles. Your better off buying a desktop and a low end laptop for the same price.

$1349 isn't cheap. You'd be better off on getting a desktop for gaming.

I do have a desktop for gaming, and I agree that dekstops are better (unless you want to play games outside of home), but I am comparing this laptop to consoles in terms of value.

Well the consoles win that battle because you can buy every console out on the market combined and it would still be cheaper then this laptop.

How is shelling out close to 1400$ on a laptop more "affordable" then shelling out 300 - 400 dollarsi on a 360 and prtically get the same experience ? The extra grand on graphics you spend is not worth it at all

[QUOTE="-Wheels-"]Wow that's horrible. Once again, a thread that doesn't prove anything what so ever.PandaBear86

My thread proves nothing? This laptop DOES beat console graphics, so that point has been proven. And it IS affordable. Another point proven.

Mind giving me a reason why my thread proves nothing?

You're getting better performance for a higher price. What else could you expect? It'd be retarded if it was the other way around. I'm more easily impressed by a 600$ desktop that beats a PS3.

Oh then no comparison. console > laptop in terms of gaming value.

360 has the same experience as a gaming PC? Lol, what about free mods, better controls, awesome online, no jet-engine DVD drive, no 33% failure rate, faster load speeds etc ;)

The 360 has a great controller, really good online and greats games that look and play very well so why would I need to shell out 1000$ just for free mods and a "jet engine DVD drive" :?

I will never buy a pre-made computer for more than a grand. Especially Gateway.MadExponent

This.

I personally havent seen a Gateway computer with my own eyes since like 1999.

Custom desktop is always the way to go, i hate laptops for some reason.

Though this thread isnt that good. I get the point hes trying to make. Well atleast I think I do. Anyways, I thinking hes trying to point out that people who buy a nice PC arent just using it for gaming. That would be a waste. I didnt build my PC just to play games. I use is it for a bought load of things. My PC offers way more than what my 360 could ever offer. Sure I paid more for it than my 360 but I get more out of it then just playing games and buying the occasional Tv programs or movies(well not anymore since I a have a blu ray player). Which brings me to my next point. Consoles are trying to hard to be like PC without being PCs. Which is a good and a bad thing I think. I have a feeling that the next wave of consoles are going to be even more expensive than this gens because they are trying to be like PC.

rant/ but I dont care.

You can get the successor ( 6060fx) on sale at best buy for only $1099. I was thinking of getting it, but decided to go with the XPS since the size and weight of this laptop defeats it's purpose.
