Poll Metal gear 4 or V? (40 votes)

Metal Gear Solid 4 38%
Metal Gear Solid V 63%

While IV scored higher on this site than 5, 4 got a lot of mixed reactions. So now that the final MGS game* is out, would you say V is better than IV or 4 is better than 5?

Judging from the scale of acclaim, (whcih is subjective) by critics, MGS4 is the best game with Snake while MGSV is the best game with Big Boss.

They both scored the same here. MGSV is already getting mixed reactions just as MGS4 did, but for far different reasons.

That said, MGSV kicks the shit out of MGS4 multiple times over. I haven't even completed MGSV yet and I already have enough play time logged to have beaten MGS4 multiple times. And every moment of those logged hours has been far more enjoyable than anything MGS4 brought to the table.

V, hands down. I finished it roughly about a week ago, and I still feel affected by the last few missions. Such a great game.

V.

They're really different games on so many levels though, which is why I like MGS. But V is the ultimate at its gameplay, which is what matters to me.

Shocks me that people want to call MGS4 "hot garbage." A game with a 94 meta critic cannot possibly be called hot garbage. You don't have to like it and you can disagree with the critics but constructive intelligent criticism is still required. If you break down the game to its most basic level, the game mechanics, and level design, it's well above most games. Calling it trash or garbage is lazy. MGS4 to me was the culmination of the series into a grand finale. It was an amazing experience from beginning to end. The twists and turns were terrific. Guns of the Patriots was Kojima's fitting goodbye to Solid Snake's side of the story.

I have yet to finish MGS5 but it's a far different experience. The slower pace and disjointed storytelling already put it behind MGS4 on my list of best to worst Metal Gear games.

MGS5 the game just felt like it through everything into it where certain plot holes in 4 still puzzled me.

It absolutely can.

On topic: V. The actual gameplay is terrific and for 31 episodes legitimately strong, and for once Kojima shuts the **** up and gets out of the games way. It doesn't end strong, and there are a lot of ideas left at the cutting room floor so I would be hard pressed to ever put it over Subsistence, and I might even humor the idea of taking Substance/Sons of Liberty over it as well, but 1, 4, and that abortion known as peace walker? Not even in MGSV's ball park.

In fact a shit ton of open world games aren't in MGSV's ball park for me. This is the type of freedom in gameplay I want from these games, not the usual Ubisoft variety.

Both are extremely overrated but MGS4 is just flat out bad, MGSV had a lot of filler content but at least there are good parts which can't be said for MGS4

I think I'm going to go with IV, the more I play mgs V the more bored I become of it. It's just getting to repetitive at this point.

I play Metal Gear because of the story and MGSV has no story. In fact, the only interesting arc in the game is not even finished! MGSV is the kind of game I beat once and never touch it again. MGS3 still remains as the best in the series yet ironically has the lowest metascore while the worst in the series, MGS2, has the highest.

there are no "mixed" reactions about MGS4, thegame sucked, only some people admit it and some people are in obvious denial over it

Because I think the MGS storyline is nothing short of a fat fucking joke all things considered, and because I place gameplay above anything else no matter the game, I go with V. For all its shortcomings, it knocks it out of the park where it truly matters most.

Neither, they both are boring. 1 was good, 2 was OK, 3 was good, 4 was boring as hell and convoluted as ****, 5 is boring as hell

both scored a 10 on GS and a 94 on metacritic, if mgsv wins GOTY then it'll match mgs4

Definitely 4. I'm a little tired of these open-world/sandbox games and I don't even think the sandbox was that well made on 5.

V. MGS4 was great, but those cutscenes were excruciating.

I had a hard time putting MGSIV down when I was going through it way back when. This is far from the case that I'm having with MGSV. It is a good game, but I do find myself or my attention rather shifting away from the game to other things, and just turning the game off or indefinitely leaving it on pause.

I like 4 much more then 5, I enjoy Metal Gear games and 5 is not Metal Gear to me. Metal Gear has always had great stealth game play and a crazy but awesome story. 5 should have just been brought out as a different game other then Metal Gear. The whole open world really takes away from what made all the other games great the lack of story, the whole fultoning of things and micro managing a base doesn't do anything for the franchise other then to add extra hours to an already boring game. IMO I would rank them MGS 1, 2, 4, 3, Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, MGS V and Peace Walker.

5 By a long shot. It's just a far better game in every respect so far. I haven't beat 5 yet but nothing about it less than 4. I enjoyed 4 quite a bit.
