Both are good series, but which one (overall: gameplay + storyline) offers more of what you personally find enjoyable?

I for one, enjoys Metal Gear storyline far more. But the latest Splinter Cell (Blacklist) just brought some fluid stealth mechanics coupled with interesting & relevant RPG elements & multiplayer that is just undeniably impressive.

It left me wishing all TPS games (including my favorite Mass Effect) to borrow some of its fluid gameplay mechanics.

Hard to pick. Splinter Cell is way more fun to play, but I love the wackiness of MGS. Just the entire thing about the franchise. I'd pick both Sam Fisher and Solid Snake to aid me in a barfight though.

I don't get the comparisions between MGS and Splinter Cell. MGS is a story driven action adventure game. While Splinter Cell is a tactical stealth game. They are like apples and oranges.

I love both, but Splinter Cell gets my vote. Don't think any MGS game tops Chaos Theory.

Splinter Cell, easily. Every Splinter Cell game has way better gameplay than any MGS game.

MGS games ave next to no gameplay and have become TPS with stealth elements faster than Splinter Cell, which still has a large focus on gameplay and stealth, and gameplay. MGS is clearly trying to be a movie.

On the whole, I find MGS games to be much more enjoyable.  Even from a gameplay standpoint, there is much more room to experiment and (MGS2/MGS3) are more challenging as stealth games if you're ghosting it.  The games just beg to be replayed though.  Beyond the gameplay, MGS just has more style and more reason to invest yourself in the characters and universe as ridiculous as they are.

Chaos Theory is the only SC game that I would compare to MGS as a full experience.  Both the single player and online were just godly.

Metal Gear for story and characters. MGS can't be touched in that aspect.

Splinter Cell for gameplay. But they completely ruined the series after Chaos Theory imho. I guess they put all their skills and ideas into Chaos Theory and just didn't know what the hell to do with the series afterwards, so they turned it into Bourne Supremacy. With the last SC title they're obviously making a reboot.

The original three splinter cell games are the better stealth games if you'e pitting them with any of the MGS games. With that being said. Any MGS game is better than any of the splinter cell games that came out after chaos theory

Splinter Cell. Not only is the gameplay and stealth better, but it also doesn't suffer from having a horrible, anime-influenced story.

There's no debate, the meaning is pretty clear. The only debates about MGS2 are 'does it suck/was it a secretly brilliant work of art?' In which case, again, there is no debate, both sides would be justified with their stances.

Except for the fact it had plenty of quality gameplay. And it was closer to a true stealth game than any other MGS game, too. A lot of people didn't like the story/characters of MGS2, which is fine, but this criticism makes no sense.

Both similar but many differences. Splinter Cell remind me of oldschool games, drop you in map and let you finish how you want. Like old Rainbow Six that I miss. However, the story is not even worth mentioning. More forgettable than soap opera. MGS works better as overall package, and no SC game has come close to the greatness of MGS3.

Indeed. I probably played through 2 twice as many times as 3. And I played 3 probably 25 times.

"Tactical Espionage Action" =/= stealth It would be like calling a James Bond film "stealth". He sneaks around a bit, but always ends up in a glorious gun battle.

Same.  MGS2 is a masterful example of great game design and a good deal more refined than MGS3 in its execution.

Kojima just chooses to give the player too much credit by allowing so much freedom and as a result people think the gameplay is lacking.  Had Kojima forced MGS2 to be played as a stealth game then more people would realize the astounding amount of effort that went into the core gameplay.  Instead you have a very small crowd that played the game as intended while most others just tranq and run through the game.

It would be like playing a Zelda game with the option to bomb through any wall if you choose to do so.  Most people would never recognize how wonderfully designed a lot of the dungeons are.  Maybe not the best comparison, but I'm sure the point comes across.

Then you would absolutely love MGS2 and to a slightly lesser extent, 3.

As far as forethought, precision and challenge go, a ghost run on MGS2 is a good deal more challenging than any SC game.  I love SC, especially the first 3, but this is one of those gaming myths that really need to die.

That is such a cop out! :P

Having different opinions is fine and all, but you said as a game it didn't hold up as well as it did a thought provoking story. But most peoples complaints about the game are the story, not the gameplay. I was under the impression most were happy with the gameplay.

All sorts of different ways, bro. I played it countless times, but more often than not I was doing ghost runs on EE difficulty trying to better my ranks and shave bits off of completion time.

I love them both for different reasons. They are like Yen and Yang. Splinter Cell has a more realistic take on spycraft and MGS is just batshit crazy. And I dig the hell out of Kojima.

Currently - Splinter Cell

MGS5 looks awesome though.
