[QUOTE="sonicmj1"]Metal Gear Solid 3. The gameplay is better, and the story is less incredibly silly and doesn't eat the whole game. Verge_6
Exactly. 100 year old ex-Nazis and bisexual vampires just cross the line for me.
A man who can control bumblebees anda main villain who likes Naked Snake's crotch also crosses the line for me...
And I think MGS2's story is very smart...
and Vamp's not really a vampire. He likes blood because he was forced to feed on it when he was injured in a church explosion. And whose a 100 year old ex-Nazi?

I still find those things to be not as absurd as the two I listed. And I find the story of MGS2 to be intentionally convulted and also absurd. A friend of mine best summed it up with this; 'Make enough plot twists in a story, and people will think it's artistic integrity incarnate'

Dead Cell is not as absurd as Cobra Unit.
Dead Cell: An insane bomber, a freaky guy who likes blood, and a woman who is "invincible" but is in truth wearing technology that interferes with bullets.
Cobra Unit: A guy who controls bumblebees and commands them to attack Snake, a monkey man, an old guy who gets power from God to live on, etc...

Sorry forgot to say that there is spoilers below:
Come on people, MGS has always had its weird universes. MGS 2 story revolves around the patriots and the S3 plan... But while I loved the game and while I liked the story of the game, I just did not found it to be something out of this world.
MGS3 characters just touched me more and the game had that kind of situation where Volgin was questioning himself about an existence of a spy, when everybody around him were spies. The situation between Snake, Big Boss and the involvement of Eva and even Ocelot... I could really talk about the story of the game in a much deeper level then MGS2. Mostly because of its characters and their respective situations in the game.

That doesn't make it right.
While MGS3 had some silly characters (like The Pain) generally, they got very little screentime, so it didn't matter much. Whereas every single character in MGS2 had a giant subplot devoted to their life story. I don't need to hear about why a fat guy on roller skates likes blowing stuff up. I don't need to know why Vamp likes blood (that still doesn't explain why he doesn't die). I don't need to hear about Fortune's death wish. And I sure as hell am not impressed by a game where one of the primary villains is being controlled by his arm.
MGS2 had some very clever story ideas, but they were submerged by a giant pile of schlock that not only added a lot of unnecessary length to the story, but simply bogged it down without adding anything of value. MGS3's story isn't quite as smart, but at least it doesn't reach the heights of absurdity that MGS2 reaches.

Point, but I don't have to go through a tenuous sub-plot that centers around their lives like I did with the secondary characters of MGS2. MGS2 DOES have memorable characters, but they have way too much screentime.

Oh, actually, I have a theory about the arm. I do hate the silliness, and Ocelot says at the end of 2: There is no such thing as magic (or something like that).
Ocelot goes insane after the Shadow Moses Incident and develops two personalities, thinking he's being possessed by Liquid.
MGS2>MGS3 in every way shape and form *except main character*
But MGS3:S over MGS2 in every way shape and form except story.
I think most people get turned off of MGS2 because it is just WAY to complex for them.

Once again, I did not dislike MGS2's plot because I was too 'dumb' to get it.

Plausible, but not hinted at by anything. Heck, the whole concept of an arm transplant is already absurd. The whole 'Liquid Ocelot' thing just makes it worse.
MGS2 has a lot of issues with its story.

I know, I'm not saying it solves it, but I thought this was the perfect time to bring up my idea which I have been thinking about since I got MGS2 :P

Not to offend you *because you aren't dumb* but I still think it is true. Both Jango and I totally understood all the you would say "unneccesary pointless plot twists" and "crazy characters" purpose in the game and contribute to the story and theme. While you see them as pointless.

Not at all. If anything, I think the overly "complex" word people use to refrain to MGS2 story, is pushing it quite a bit. The story from what I see it, was really not that much more complex in comparison to the 3rd.

I tend to STRONGLY disagree since I can say it's pretty much fact that the second is by far the most complex in the series *yes I own every single one* but that's your opinion so I must respect it.

I seriously don't know why this game gets such a bad rap, it seems that the only ones that truly like the game are the hardcore Metal Gear fans. MGS2:SoL can said to be the LoZ:MM or MP2:E of the franchise if you will.

I understood said story elements perfectly, thank you very much. And I still thought them to be unnecessary and sometimes downright painful. If people disliked things soley because they didn't understand them, this would be a VERY strange and awful world.

Nah in MGS2 they actually speak about the body of a man in wich his arm went missing in the Shadow Moses incident, in turn they were talking about Liquid and I really wouldn't see that fitting with the story as a whole. Specially on the upcoming game. Tho... then again... who knows? Kojima might just pull our leg for some reason :P

It's not really that hard to understand.
The patriots organize the Big Shell takeover to test the S3 plan on Raiden, the program to manipulate both individuals and history itself, and cover themselves by creating GW to censor any evidence of them on the internet. Solidus Snake plans to launch a nuclear missile on Manhattan, making it into an individual republic (a new Outer Heaven) to wage war against the Patriots. That's bad, without the Patriots, although sadistic and pretty much evil, USA will be out of balance.
I tend to STRONGLY disagree since I can say it's pretty much fact that the second is by far the most complex in the series *yes I own every single one* but that's your opinion so I must respect it.

What was so complex about it? The only thing that was complex about the story was the S3 plan that Raiden had to go through. The patriots on the other hand, was probably just a creation to keep the series going forward.

MGS2 just because I like the whole "conspiracy theory"/"philosophical" storyline to it. MGS3 was good as well in its own way with the more basic "action movie" type storyline. Can't wait for MGS4 though, looks to be great although I'm hoping MGS4 is delayed long enough so the price of the PS3 drops or it comes to the 360 so I wont have to spend $660 on MGS4
Maybe mantis will be back and will play the controller rumble trick again.... oh wait.
