I know which one is superior graphically...PC.

My main interest here is whether or not the graphics alone are enough to sway a purchaser away from the console version if they prefer console gaming. I am interested in this game, but I never played Metro 2033 (should I, or do you think I would be ok?), but I can't decide if I want it on my PC or PS3. I really enjoy getting platinum trophies on the PSN profile and view it as a fun challenge, but does anyone know if the gameplay or graphics are just horrid on console compared to PC?

In order to make this less of a "help me" type thread it would be cool to see opinions on how much graphics actually weigh in to the experience as long as gameplay and story are solid. I know with Bioshock infinite after about an hour I didn't even notice the lackluster console graphics b/c the game was so good. Thoughts?

With a game like Metro Last Light you're better off on the PC for two major reasons. The first being graphics. The gap between the PC and the consoles are going to be huge with this game. They've made many improvements to the PC version of the game and have fleshed out the DX11 renderer so it runs better and looks better at the same time.

The second big reason is the devs have decided to support modding on the PC this time around. Expect custom maps, mods, and who knows what other creations people come up with a few months after launch. It will have more longevity.

Im renting it on 360 and then Im gonna buy it on PC in a few months when it gets super cheap. For a game like Metro I imagine that graphics are a huge part of the experience because the first game was all about atmosphere. I still enjoyed the console version but if you're gonna buy one, get the PC one. It looks way better and you can probably get it new from GMG for around $40 with their dicsount.

Metro 2033 was almost a different game on PC. That said though Last Light is a much better port.

Mr_BillGates

Playing at 30fps (with dips--it will have big dips) isn't the same as playing at 45-60fps. Also, FPSs should really only be played with M/Kb.  So no, they don't play the same.

To OP: get in on PC, but I'd wait until reviews come out. The game looks great and all, but there are some things I feel somewhat iffy about like the insane amount of ammo you get in the game now; all the previews for the game showed the player running around with like 300 rounds of ammo, which seems like an effort to appeal towards the CoD crowd. Metro 2033 in comparison made it so you barely ever had more than 90 or so rounds depending on the gun.

First of all, what is your PC specification?

If it's capable, you should definitely get the PC version. If it's not, upgrade.

I imagine that it would be unbearable to play the console version.

One of the major things you don't have to suffer from on PC is the frame rate issues, it's a inevitable thing on console games. And I simply cannot enjoy a game with stutters and low frame rates.

Even if console had better graphics, I will still get it for PC because K/M owns controller for FPSs.

Metro is one of te few games where graphics and effects as well as framerate actually make the game, rather than just being a nice extra. The atmosphere is only properly achieved through effects found in the pc version, the game is nothing without it's incredible engrossing atmosphere

Here's a very crude comparison but you can get a sense of the different lighting (right click for full size). Sadly the cloth animation is canned and not real time physics

Clipping is always gonna happen with a simulation like that involving those properties, but yeah it does look a little watery to try make the effect stand out a bit more.

I still think it's nice all the same

It's really the only confirmed 360 footage vs PC footage I can show though. Most of what we saw from the game is PC footage and just showing that on it's own doesn't do much

Well it is comparing two very sh!tty sources for that segment and it doesn't even come close to showing off the full version of either. But it's the best I got.

But the lighting is noticeably worse in the 360 version to me. It's not as subtle and sort of just washes over the whole scene

I played 2033 on both platforms, and believe me when I tell you if your PC can handle it, there is absolutely no reason to buy the console version. Native Xbox controller support for the PC and cheevos via Steam too, btw.

If you have a PC that can run MLL then of course get it on PC, but if you're like me with a aging GC then you might as well get it on a console.

You want to get the game on PS3 just because it has a trophy system? You do realize that the PC version will have Steam achievements? The jump from graphics in console to PC with this game will be phenomenal just like Metro 2033. The 360 version looked absolutely horrid compared to the PC version; so if that's anything to go by, I'd get it on PC.

Trophies/achievements are more important than graphics/performance!

Well if you think graphics are the only thing that matters in a video game, then get it on PC. If you don't give a flying fvck what the hermits and calves have to say, then make up your own mind.

Wasdie

Wasdie has these two major points covered, but one thing that should have its own point or at least part of point one is game performance. To have the higher resolution textures, post-processing effects, and all those other DX11 effects like Tesselation is great and all, but having all of that and being at 60fps is the best. The smoothness that exists when gaming at 60fps over 30 is so fantastic. If your PC is capable, 120fps on a proper 120hz monitor... holy crap it looks fantastic.
