Now, not that I am insulting the Wii or discounting the Prime series, as I would consider Metroid Prime one of the best, if not the best, games of the last generation.

And I think the gameplay videos of Prime 3 look excellent especially for a Wii game.  But I forsee a problem.  How will Nintendo map the controls?  Every first person game on the Wii has been awful control wise.  Red Steel, Far Cry, Call of Duty... none of them controled very well at all, I personally hated them all.

And I don't really see exactly how the Wii will manage first person games with a free range of motion in the future.  Do you guys really think that Nintendo is going to have a good control scheme for this game?  I know that everything about the game will be good, the only thing that worries me about it is the control scheme, which is why I am not as excited about it and I don't understand why other people don't share the concern.

I guess Nintendo has a great track record, even with first person games, look at how well Hunters on the DS turned out.

I hope that Prime 3 is good, but is anybody else as worried as I am?

It comes down to prefrence. I enjoyed playing Red Steel like that, I would have enjoyed it much more if it wasn't the buggiest thing on the face of the earth. But still, Nintendo never disapoints and I don't see that happening here.

Well, on all of the hands on previews I've read I've heard nothing but praise for the controls, and I guess Retro has been doing a really good job making them responsive and accurate. That got rid of my fears.

Go read a preview, MP3 also uses the bounding box method, though done much better than the competition. edit: also I liked how CoD3 controlled, it felt much better than a dual analog set up.

No, I'm not worried. Previews have praised the control scheme. If you played Elebits, you'd know a FPS could be done well on the Wii. Retro only has two games under their belt, but they're two of the best games I've ever played, so I'm not worried that they'll screw up something so vital as a control scheme.

Thing is, if you read the redsteel, CoD3, and farcry reviews the controls are just about the only positives. CoD3 is still a high A even with no online and PS2 graphics.

Most of my MP3 control fears were put to rest when I watched the expert mode trailer.

Well, there wasn't really bashing, but I remember both GS and IGN saying that they hope that Ubi tightened up the controls before the game was released.. I guess Ubi never decided to read a preview :P Haha.. but yea, nobody really trashed RS's controls until it was released.. I guess everyone hoped they improved before launch :S Oh well.

i think the controls will come throught with this game. but i do have my worries like u. but i think the gameplay will be even more fun now that it plays a little more like a shooter, the single player will be awesome. and if they add online which i think they will with the amount of time they are takings, and the fact that hunters on ds was online this game will be AAA. atleast in my book.

See, I had no problems with the control, or bugs...the game just got real tedious. No AI, same enemies, and generic boring guns. COD3 had a great control scheme. It worked fine, and MP3 will be fine too. (Driving in COD3 sucked though)

Call of Duty 3 had perfect controls as far as the FPS and vehicle parts went, the melee parts were handling un-intuitively. Red Steel's controls were also not really bad, the game just had a buggy, unfinished feel to it and that sometimes reared its heads with the controls but 90% of the time it was dead on.

I know one thing, I never had a GameCube and I had purchased a ton of GameCube games to take advantage of the Wii's backwards functionality, and playing FPS with Dual Analogs SUCK after playing a FPS with the wii-mote. I can pick people off precisely and easily with the Wii-mote, after that it's just frustrating and archaic trying to aim the little reticule with the analog sticks. Seriously, Red Steel and Call of Duty 3 are not great games by any means, but I got Timesplitters 2, Bond 007, Medal of Honor: Frontline, XIII, and Turok, and even more GameCube games many that are considered better then CoD3 and Red Steel for the Wii and I seriously can not get myself to play any of them cuz I just can't go back to a gamepad for FPS.

My fear is not the controls though, it's the gameplay. Retro said that the game would be more FPS and less expolration/scanning. I fear that it won't feel like a prime game.

Because good FPS controls can be achieved. People have said that COD3's main gunplay was done well, and that MP3's was better. If you need anymore convincing, go to wii.hl2world.com

Yes it's a PC mod, but it uses the Wiimote and nunchuck and sensor bar just like any other Wii game.

How about instead of making rash assumptions from experiences with rushed ports, we wait for the game to come out and see what building something ground up on the Wii is like.

[I understand Red Steel is not a port, but it was rushed for launch, and suffered heavily for it]

The Wii has potential for great FPS controls, and since this isn't a third party title it will be fine. FPSs weren't supposed to work on the DS until Hunters came out either.

If Prime 3 doesn't pull it off, I doubt it ever really will.  Nintendo knows this and won't rush the game.

Look at the history. The original was more open than any game of its time. Super Metroid is considered by some the greatest game of all-time. Metroid Primes 1 and 2 were both critically acclaimed. I'm sure Metroid Prime 3 is going to be great.

"We're happy to report that it simulates the accuracy of PC first-person shooters almost perfectly, and we found ourselves soaring through levels, zipping around corners, pulling quick turns and zapping down enemies with pinpoint precision within seconds. Simply put, Retro has pretty much nailed it - and it makes the wait to 2007 for the game that much more difficult. We're not kidding when we write that Prime 3 feels like a brand new game with this control"

Retro wont let us down that easily..
