Being a MGS game does not guarantee greatness - I am a massive fan of MSG but I am disappointed with this online aspect, Gears of War, R6, GRAW does the same job a whole lot better.
I really believed the experience to be so-so

*shrug* It plays differently from all those titles with a huge emphasis on teamwork for victory :|

since when has MGS been a teamwork game? snake has always worked alone with some help from otacon or how his name it :)
i never really excepted MGO to be anything big, if it works out fine it's just good but i doubt it'll be better then any other multiplayer online games, but atleast it might be something "different" for a change.
It's a Beta.carlisledavid79The final games is not going to change much from what you get in beta. Beta is used to find bugs, class balance, server tests and etc. Gameplay in beta and play style is pretty much same as what will be in final game. So if beta sucks the final will also prolly suck.

snake, otacon isnt in MGO :|
this requires much more teamwork than most online shooters. for instance you can equip the riot shield as your primary weapon and get a teammate with an assault rifle to stay close behind you back. the sop system is great too, letting you share information with team member such as enemy health, ally position etc.
the controls however seem to be more suited to the single player game. it sort of lacks fluidity for an online shooter. for a single player it seems to work very well

Now that I'm used to the control it works really well.
And Snake will be in the game in 'Snake vs.' Mode.
I think.

you do in any shooter. people won't play it that way.. only a small group.. first thing they have to do is cut down the respawns.. just one will make people more carefull.
I may just need more time to get to grips with it but the learning curve is very steep. Like I said I am disappointed with game going of my first impressions but maybe I will learn to love it lol.anthonydwyerlearning curve is steep aye? don't look down on the game because you have yet to feel comfortable with it.

Eh, and it has unique skills :P I had an entire match without using my gun once, just ran around with my knife and did that CQC move where you lie on top of them and choke them to death :P Oh, and holding people as hostages is awesome, the SOP stops them teamkilling so when they shoot, their gun is locked down so I drop the body and kill the guy with a knife :P

but act like it's a perfect online game all you want. most people who played it here know better. right now it doesn't work the way that it is mean to be played..

MGS3:S had the steepest learning curve of any online shooter I've ever played. I wouldn't be surprised if MGO is the same way.

Um... I believe he just mentioned Gears, R6 and GRAW... three games that rely heavily on teamwork in Multiplayer... *shrug* you've never played them have you?

Same could be said for every single online game out there, what makes MGS more teamwork than any other game?
another problem i find is that the camera angle feels really weird and slow when trying to aim at somebody and this is Not when you are trying to zoom in.
We all know that MGS is going to have a AAA singal player mode, but I feel like the multi-player is tacked on, and since you only get the starter pack with metal gear solid 4, I dont think the online side of things will be worthy of extra cash.
MGO Beta is actually very good. Once you tweak the controls and get used to the style of plays its alot of fun. Some of the best sniping I have played in some time. Has great motion blur and getting hit by grenades is great to be in and to watch.
ANY GAME that lets me HIDE in a BOX/BARREL or Play Dead successfully is a great game. The guns work well and so does the first person.
If you get hit by a grenade and you survive you can just lay there and majority are non the wiser when you pop up and shoot them from behind etc.
It is different enough in its play to warrant a place in the crowded space of online shooters
once you get use to the controls the game is extremely fun and i will say MGO is more of a hardcore gamesRagashahs
I'm gonna play it again tonight for a few hours and see if it was just me being a bit rash. I can understand it being hardcore as I like to play games that set a good challenge - but I don't like games where you die because of stiff controls and awkward camera angles. I'll give it another try anyway as I really want to like this game.
Obviously this is just your opinion... as if that has to be stated.
I think it has a lot going for it. It's a bit slow-paced compared to run & gunners, but that much should have been obvious before you started into it. It has some great features - link up with your teammates to share combat information, real-time fire rate switching between burst, semi-auto, & automatic, which is something I would have LOVED in COD4. The SOP system has some real potential, and I'm hoping they're able to accomplish some good feedback through this beta.
Now - tell me what you don't like about it. If it's the camera/controls, the menu for those has like 15 different settings you can mess with so it's probably not a really legitimate complaint.

skirlnik
True changing the setting on the 15 menus does make the game play slightly better, however - when you are shooting the controls feel stiff and the camera is everywhere apart from where it should be.
When I was stabbing people with the knife i was right next to them and they would run off, as if I was not there leaving me standing about stabbing thin air, the animation is also bad which you can also see when using the knife & catapult.
All my complaints are real issues even though I believe the game has potential it is still very disappointing when is is due out in 2 months.
also whats with all the IDs I don't mind going through that type of crap for the beta but when the real game comes out I hope its integrated into PSN.
The bottom line is the "beta" is clunky, unresponsive & poorly put together but who knows maybe it will be fixed in time for launch but i doubt it. Like I said before Gears Of War, Graw & R6 have all done it better.
Sounds like you got scraped.
I own in MGO and i love it.
shadyd1717
actually Ive not done to bad but only a fan boy would think that MGO is anything more than average, it reminds me of an online version of "winback" on the ps2
I went onto the Beta last night for the first time and was very underwhelmed by the game. the controls are very awkward and the way it plays feels very tacky. That is just my first impression of the game, I will play it more but i DONT THINK the online aspect of MGS will be all that it can be.anthonydwyeryu ever played mgo on the ps2? if u liked it....u`ll most likely enjoy this one
If you went in expecting a Gears of War or GRAW type game, you were bound to be disapointed. I knew what I was expecting out of this game, and I love it.
Also, it's just a beta. I know the game is getting close to release, but little changes can make all the difference.
[QUOTE="Ragnarok1051"]Good thing its a Beta.thrones
They won't be able to change much between now and release. And it's still great :D
yeah but we dont exactly know how old the beta is...it could be a work in progress from months and months ago...i think well all be pleasantly suprised with the final productI just think the whole premise of the game is wrong. It would be so awesome to have a building guarded by NPCs which you and your team mates must successfully break into using stealth. Or heck, maybe even have the players guarding it and have just one guy trying to sneak in.
Splinter Cell did online stealth games so brilliantly; it's a shame they're not doing something similar here.
To be honest, the game isn't what I was hoping for. At least from this Beta test.
I'm not sure what people are talking about saying the game requires teamwork, it really doesnt, the tactical aspect of the game is pretty weak, even compared to other PS3 online shooters like Warhawk and COD. I was expecting a slow paced stealth/tactics game, kinna like a online hide and seek with guns and traps, but in reality its just kind of a clunky shooter.
My first two games I racked up a kill / death of 27 - 3, playing team deathmatch. I just walked around and shot people while they stood around hugging a wall, or lie on the catwalk like they were trying to shoot people on the ground level... I was thinking, what are these people doing? Its not like I can't see you, you moron.
Add to that dropping a few claymore mines on the steps in the underground passages and people just walk right over them, time after time. I literally had to stop shooting people standing around behind walls so I could go set more mines so the same people could walk over them and die again.
Maybe the full game has more gametypes and maps that will make it interesting, but as it is its kinna weak.
