apparently it requires coordination. Do you think people will be up to it or are you planning on playing with friends only?

It'll be just like the previous games. Fools will run n gun like a bunch of lone wolves while tight knit teams will run the show. Even the US team that made it to the world championships in MGO2 was comprised of a few bros that individually weren't all that great, but they worked together well and blew everyone else away.
Overall though, I do expect it to be a niche title. It'll have its initial wave, but the population will dwindle to a few thousand core players quickly.
It won't fail, it'll just be like The Last of Us multiplayer, a gimmicky tacked on component that will be fun for a few weeks and get some sh*ts and giggles before it becomes barren. Sure you'll still be able to find a game after a month but it'll lack any longevity that bigger MP games have and won't have anything remotely resembling a competitive scene.

I could agree with the rest of your post, but the part in bold is simply untrue. They don't treat MGO as an afterthought, as a matter of fact there is an entire other team that develops it at Kojiima Productions LA. MGO3 has been in development almost as long as MGSV.
This is the first Metal Gear game that actually feels modern in its game mechanics. I have a lot more confidence that the online will work great in this game.

I also doubt we'll have the Konami ID/Konami Code fiasco this time, Kojima was pretty pissed about that. So many gamers that wanted to play MGO2 never made it in the door.
MGO1 was a beta tethered to a re-release. MGO2 had major issues outside of the actual game that limited the player base.
Between the modern mechanics and the western team handling infrastructure, I do believe this iteration will see much more success. It will still be largely abandoned for the next big FPS titles, but hopefully it will retain a larger core player base this time.
This isn't on one system anymore like the previous one. So since it's on more systems now, there should be more developer support to cater the larger player base. So I don't think it will be a failure like MGS4 MGO and Resistance online just to name a few that died because they were just on one specific system.
just be like The Last of Us multiplayer, a gimmicky tacked on component that will be fun for a few weeks and get some sh*ts and giggles before it becomes barren.
Excuse me?

What? It was tacked on, granted you can still find a game on it but it's stagnant.

Just because you suck at it doesn't mean it's tacked on. And it has a very strong community. NVM, just looked at your join date. Almost got trolled.
As for MGO, the community will be fine on PS4 because that's where the vets will be. The other platforms will have growing pains or it will die fast like Evolve on PC. If Gears went multiplat, I'd still play it on Xbone because that's where the hardcore vets will probably be. I rather have socom than MGO tho.

I lol'd at this ridiculous statement. On topic, what is wrong with teamwork? I have had the most fun when i am talking to to my teammates and devising a strategy to win. Sounds like gold to me.
TLOU was one and done. Good game, but overrated a bit. It's the damn multiplayer that kept that game in my PS3 for so long. Anyone who calls it tacked on simply hasn't played it.

Lord I hope not dude. I was one of those that never got into a game when it came out in 2008.

It's ok, it's not you're fault you're stupid. lol MGO vets...
Just play Splinter Cell.
Two completely different beasts.
Splinter Cell is a legitimate online stealth game and is brilliant for it. I'm not sure how they've handled recent iterations of the multiplayer, but in Pandora Tomorrow and especially Chaos Theory, it was some of the best online gaming I've ever experienced.
MGO is a team based tactical shooter with MGS staples scattered about to make it more interesting. Most of its variants are as standard as they come. It does have Sneaking Mission which somewhat replicates the single player experience in multiplayer form. Then it has Team Sneak which is basically a knock off of Splinter Cells Spies vs. Mercs, but without the drastically different play mechanics and level designs that are crafted specifically for cat and mouse style gameplay.
Both are lots of fun, but unlike the single player portions which are easily comparable, their multiplayer components might as well be different genres.

I think it'll be good this time man. Konami dropped the ball big time on that one and Kojima was pissed. I'm thinking they won't make those mistakes again.
@ConanTheStoner:
Honestly, I think you're right. They know what they didn't do right, and MGO will be better for it. Metal Gear is one of the few game series I buy without reading into it. I look forward to being as terrible at MGO as I am on Halo, Titanfall, COD, KZ...................
@mr-powers:
That "community" kinda sucks on the PS4 version. I never have a problem finding a game, but usually only 2 or 3 (if you're lucky) have mics. Still fun multiplayer.
They are often using party chat. Everybody I know that plays it regularly only plays in party chat.

Yea, you aren't even trying to troll well. Don't get so butthurt next time, princess.

That and The last of Us's multiplayer is hardly gimmicky or tacked on, and actually a pretty accomplished addition to that game.
As for MGO, it looks bitchin like everything else about MGS5. "playing with friends'...uh yeah I don't roll into any like good mp game without a team I can trust lol. Even during the best years of Unreal or Tribes or Counterstrike or even console stuff like Halo or Gears, if you weren't rolling with people you could coordinate with, you eventually started getting your ass whipped against stiffer competition. Team Fortress 2 was be a good teammate or bust, and it was an awesome MP game for most of this past decade.
Oh and it's not like Moba games don't thrive on competent team work.
