These games can't be compared. They're two completely different types of games with completely different looks.
All I can say is one is great, and the other will be great.

Actually yes you can and no their not. YOu can play MGS 4 is the same view as Gears. Except wit hMGS 4 you can play the game in many more ways than Gears and it works.
MGS 4 is WAY ahead of Gears in quality.CedmlnNo it is not WAY ahead of Gears in quality. Gears was absolutely amazing when it came out. I remember everyone praising it and it winning GOTY. Sure MGS4 is also a great game if you like the series. Both games are excellent.

This is completely my opinion, but....
When I played Gears of War in 06, I thought it was garbage. Do you remember playing Shadow of the Colossus? I remember playing Katamari, that, and Half Life 2 that year. Then I remember LoLing on the inside at Gears of War. I realized the degree to which Red Orchestra owned it. That was all I remember.
Then I played MGS4 and I still proclaim it to be the best game I've ever played.
I'm eager to see if MGO has gone up in quality as much as the singleplayer's control scheme and gameplay have over the beta....
if it has, I suspect it will easily surpass Gears in that aspect as well.
I'm sorry, I still can't get over the stupid reload minigame, the braindead chainsaw bayonet, and the single-button cover mechanic for same-sized horizontal brick walls. Play a real game, love of god.
Is this a joke thread? MGS4 is easily the best single player console game to date. Gears has better multiplayer though.DisPimpindot.
SP - MGS4 by a wide margin.
MP - Gears of War by a wide margin.
Gears is a great game but MGS4 is better than it in just about every area and puts it to shame in many areas.Couth_not in multiplayer. not even close.

Personally, I think that if you add in the perfected control scheme of MGS4's single player to MGO beta, it'd be at least a good game.
The beta was incredibly clunky and just was not a good enough game for me to drop Counter Strike. But the gunplay and controls in the singleplayer....I want them in every game that involves a gun, they're that good.
On another note, I want the ridiculous cover system in Gears of War to die a shameful death along with the ridiculous reload minigame and chainsaw bayonet.

I agree. the controls on MGS4 are so awesome. I can't believe the GameTrailer reviewer didn't like them. I think they are really good.

now cows will compare mgs4 to everything. sad though that its the only decent thing they have

You know what is really the sad thing? People like you is not realizing that the PS3's library is far better than what they think or what they wanna think.

glad you feel that way...opinions are neat.
Actually its the truth. Where is Gears Epic story? Oh wait it doesn't have one. Where is Gears Epic gameplay, oh way its not Epic comapred to MGS 4. Where is Gears variety? Oh wait it doesn't have that at any level near MGS 4.
Not everything is an opinion. EX: I have feet 15 inches longer than yours, but thats just an opinion.

nope. MGS4's controls are too clunky and involved to be a really effective MP based on the direction they went with it. If they had went in a Splinter Cell MP direction, it could have worked better. But Gears wins easily because it's so accessible and not complicated.now cows will compare mgs4 to everything. sad though that its the only decent thing they have

MGS4's controls are wonky at times. when in a situation where you have to do something fast, you'll likely fail. I've found myself trying to grab onto a wall for cammo only for me to have to try to adjust snake multiple times just to get the option thing to appear. other times holding down the series of buttons can feel cumbersome.I think the controls are good enough and I'm overjoyed they went with a fully controlable camera. But to suggest it works well under heat is not an accurate assessment. Compare with Gears simplified and streamlined approach to controls. it highlights how different the games are and have to be, though they both have an over-shoulder view.
MGS4's controls are best designed for a SP experience and a Splinter Cell approach to MP.

You're a fanboy, but here I go.
The graphics in MGS4 are better than Gears, being native 720 doesn't affect the gameplay, and the gameplay is also more diverese and better than Gears. Gears is a great game, but this is the truth.

No way. Gears has almost zero options and customization. There are also technical problems galore... matches turn into shotgun circle strafe fests...
MGO has a whole leveling system, interesting and different game modes, SOP is really cool, and there's no bullet lag...

I actually really enjoy it. Definitely going to get the expansion packs.
MGS 4, by a mile. :)
As for the single player / multiplayer part, there are a lot of games out there to compete with GoW for the top multiplayer spot, but I don't think anything can reasonably beat MGS 4's uniquely magnificent single player experience.
So in the end MGS 4 comes out at top.

So in other words you want a game to be so simple that everyone can be good from the start like CoD4. Just because you find the controls cumbersome for MP doesn't mean they are. I wish every online shooter featured the MGS4 controls. I really cant think of a shooter that gives you so many options with such ease of use. Its a skill. You develop it over time. Going by your logic Gran Turismo should stay single player and only racers like Burnout should be online. Ya know...since simple games are the only ones allowed online.
For me, MGS4 is the better game. The only way I'll play GeoW story mode is if it's coop w/ friends, but if it weren't for that, I wouldn't enjoy it that much. That was also the only way I was willing to play resistance, halo 3, and most other shooters (bioshock and cod4 are the only exceptions I can think of). Since MGS4 is so story driven, it's so much easier to stay interested in playing it alone.
GeoW and MGO are comparable imo too. I'm only considering MGO to be almost as good as GeoW multiplayer because of Sneak matches. Being snake, mk2, or hunting him down while in a TDM is just so fun, even in beta.

Why don't you go use the rating to judge? It's a few clicks away.
I'm not a fanboy; I'm not bashing games.
