MGS4 and GTA4 will still have competition this year from these two games. (56k)

Now I'm not saying that MGS4 and GTA4 don't deserve the scores they got although I have a feeling that MGS4 is more deserving of it. But you can't deny that Spore and Starcraft 2 will make some impact this year. Especially since that Spore's creature creator trial has been leaked and getting some critical acclaim even here on SW. Then you also have Starcraft 2 which will stay close to its roots with Blizzard giving it some good polish and it will also sell massively but that doesn't really matter.

I'll just short this down: The year isn't over. There's still a lot of highly anticipated games coming that could match MGS4 and GTA in terms of quality. So enough with the "GOTY confirmed!!" when we're in june.

I think it would be more likely to see SC2 get a 9 than Spore based on Blizzard's history, and Spore, while a Will Wright game is a little niche.

Personally, I think Spore is shaping up to be one of the most unique titles in years, while SC2 seems to be following in its predecessor's footsteps (which is a good thing). Gamespot has a habit of awarding bonus points to innovative titles, and taking points away from derivative titles (not that I"m saying SC2 is derivative). They both have a very good shot at AAA, and I think they'll both get it, but personally, I'm betting Gamespot rates Spore higher.

LBP has no shot at AAAA (or GOTY for that matter). I don't mean to bash the game, because it looks great, but it certainly won't score that well. I'm personally guessing 8.5-9.0 for LBP.

how do you know they're games for you if you've never even played them? for all you know, they could all flop and suffer from poor controls, frame rate issues, bad storytelling etc...

A better prediction would involve a game that actually came out because at least you know what reason it has to win.

That's stellar. For example, even if it only got 9.0 here, it would be considered superb.

Spore actually has a pretty good chance.

Starcraft 2 is sticking too close to its tried-and-true gameplay.

Unless Blizzard pull off some crazy production values a la MGS and GTA IV, it won't be getting a 10.

Character creation is not innovative at all, and as far as i'm concerned really boring. I doubt their are alot of people that have the imagination and artistic skill to come up with something really cool and creative. All this can be overcome if you were to put A LOT of time into the game, which is what the developers are hoping.
On the other hand StarCraft 2 looks like the game i've been waiting for :)

I believe character creation in Spore was meant to be a purely visual feature more than anything (i.e it doesn't affect gameplay).

Does it matter that there aren't people with the skill to create a really appealing species?

What if I wanted to create an army of Saiyan warriors, though EA only dictated that I could create a tribe of Oompa Loompas?

I saw review of starcraft. The gameplay got 8. Thats pathetic for an RTS games. Simply because gamplay is extrememly imprtant in an RTS game.

However, I will try out starcraft 2 and i hope it gets outstanding gameplay medal from GS and other sites. I want it to be good b/c I play RTS games and starcraft 2 is the nexy one i am getting after CNC3.

Honestly I could remove Starcraft 2 from the list of competitors, but Spore is certainly a good match for these high-rated games. SC2 seems more like SC1.5, while Spore brings something new to the small world of gaming. In terms of Game of the year, SC2 is not to be considered, as far I'm concerned.

I can't really say anything about Spore yet, but if I'd have to pick a game out of GTA4 and MGS4, I think MGS would have a bigger chance at winning. The reviews seems more enclined to applaud MGS rather than GTA, but that's just guessing.

Keep Spore, move Starcraft. Other than that, totally plausible that neither MGS nor GTA will certainly will GOTY.

Hmmm. I feeling ya for Starcraft 2, but Spore not so much. Starcraft is a religion over in South korea.

So i'm thinking MGSIV vs. Starcraft 2.

And it seems the general consensus is that GTAIV doesnt deserve the perfect 10 but a solid 9-9.5.
