MGS4 has a niche market? I dont think so.

I try not to play sales, but for MGS4 I will, simply because this game was bashed and bashed into no other, saying it would not sell more than 3 million by some people, and it has a niche market.

Well, its sold around 3 million already, and it hasnt even gone thru one holiday season yet.

So how big is this Niche market?

first, it shipped 3 million.

second, it shipped as many as Halo 3 sold day 1 in NA alone.......in TWO weeks........WORLDWIDE.

A Niche market doesn't mean low sales.

In gaming, Niche franchises cater to a specific segment market or having specifc appeal to a certain type of group. I personally wouldn't caterogize MGS4 as a niche game, but I can agree that it lacks a broader audience beyond its fans.

i.e. Out of the 3 million, I'd bet that majority are returning fans, while titles like CoD4 or Halo 3 were able to gain new audience members.

Sold to retailers. The question is how many of those have actually been purchased by consumers?

MAybe they're adding a copy to all the PS3's that seem to be overtaking the floor space in my local game store... according the Sony they've all been sold as well.

QFT. Comparing MGS4 worldwide sales to Halo 3 NA sales shows how MGS4 is a hardcore game, now compare it to GTA4 and MGS4 looks smaller in market scale still.

It didn't top GTA IV or Halo 3, but still a good go for a niche game.BioShockOwnz

everyone knew MGS could sell MGS2 told us that... but this game still isn't selling as well as it should, considering the hype and advertising.

Very few games sell as well as Halo and a big part your neglecting is that Halo released closer to the 4th quater, you know the time when game sales and console sales are at their highest, while MGS4 launched during the summer, you know when game sales and console sales are at their lowest.

How is it not a system seller, in Japan alone the PS3 sold like 77K in one week when MGS 4 launched and 80GB PS3 bundles are hard to find. What makes you think its not a system seller, and how do you judge how much a game sales based on hype and advertising? DO you know how much it cost to advertise, it didnt flood the TV, and how do you measure hype vs. sales?

MGS4 sold very well and it hasnt even been a month. MGS games are the kind that have long legs. Aside from games that are multiplat and Halo, MGS4 has been a very fast and big seller.
