MGS4 is not a stealth game when you compare it to the XBOX splinter cell games.

Im talking about the splinter cell games on the original xbox.The new ones are sucky.The 1st one is the best imo.

I actually found those games challenging and sam fisher is a way better protaganist the game also doesnt have a confusing as hell story with 15 min cutscenes.

Splinter cell (the first game on xbox original) still has better stealth elements such as i havent finished the game and i played it 5 years ago so im sorry i missed out alot of things.these are mostly things you can do in the first level tutorial.

• Lock picking
• hiding A body
• using a guards eye print/finger print
• getting past cameras
• pipe climbing
• stealth killing
• the dark actually helps you (in metal gear solid their is a part in the middle east levels just before you meet the guy with the monkey where you completely in the dark but the guards can still see you)
• you are not encouraged to kill guards (makes you feel more like a spy)

things you can do in MGS4

• crawl (prone) through all the guards till the end of the level with the overpowered camoflage
• distract a guard with a girl magazine
• role in a drum can through all the guards
• shoot all the guards
• watch a 15 mins cutscene
• run through all the guards

so obviously splintercell 1 is the better game in terms of stealth since its much more challenging and realistic it makes you feel like a real spy not a dumb ass old man who looks like the KFC guy.

This thread is about MGS4 not the other MGS games.

You know MGS4 is amazing when it not only wins GOTY and gets a perfect 10, but still has people trying their best to tear it down 4 freaking years after release!

This debate has occurred since the original Splinter Cell on the Xbox/PC. Obviously, with regards to MGS4, it's since MGS4 released.

MGS and Splinter Cell had an entirely different take on stealth. I thought Splinter Cell approached it much better, until Conviction (though Conviction was still pretty good).

Butthurt from a Lem entertains me. 4 years after MGS4's release and Lems are still trying to downplay it. :lol:

Well, actually it's much more than just a stealth game. It can be played strictly as stealth, and there are rewards for not being noticed, or it can be a shooter, or a hybrid of both. It's great because you aren't tied to any one form of playing style.TomatoDragonPSN

This is true. Whilst it's obviously slanted toward a stealth playstyle (though not as much as DE:HR), the option for alternate styles is there.

Actually the ending is, well, exactly the same. They just expanded on it, explained it.

Its like if you don't know a lot about WWII, then you read up on it. Doesn't mean WWII changed, it just means it was explained to you better and you know more about it and what went on. Still the same old WWII.

Well yeah, MGS4 is a poor stealth game and a poor action game mixed into one and it fails horribly at both.

Both series have fallen far from what they used to be though. This is like saying your poop stinks less than your neighbors.

Gameplay wise MGS4 has nothing on MGS2 and MGS3, just as Double Agent and Conviction have nothing on Pandora Tomorrow.

Xbox Splinter Cell games? The last time I checked every single Splinter Cell has been multiplatform.

But still, Splinter Cell does have better stealth mechanics than MGS.
