well my opinion if you want a good solid rpg experience stick with mass effect i loved that game.

if you want a more cinematic experience with some great set peice battles etc go for mgs4 but beware the cutscenes lol only if you are a fan of mgs series you will enjoy the game no doubt!

While the cutscenes are kinda long at times, I know a lot of people who weren't big fans of the past Metal Gear games but still enjoyed MGS4 a lot.

I agree, imo Mass Effect is a better game overall, mostly due to the amount of freedom and the amazing story. If I were you I would do my best to own both games as they are both amazing in their own right.

MGS4. The story of Solid Snake cannot be ignored. You should try to keep Mass Effect though.

i mean those games are like apples and oranges. One is an action/rpg, and one is a stealth/action game. Story wise, MGS4 is superior, but the game has one of the best stories in video game history IMO. Character wise I like them about even, there are some great characters to be found in Mass Effect. MGS4 has great characters too, more of them being likeable if you've played previous MG games. It really all comes down to what kind of game you want. I could easily recommend both of these games to someone

again, they're completely different gameplay styles

If you like RPGs, then Mass Effect brought some innovative and fun ideas to the genre. It's very action based, so it keeps things fresh.

If you enjoyed Metal Gear gameplay before, then MGS4 does it again only better. If you enjoy playing stealth type games, with an option of going nuts with your guns then you'll like MGS4.

Personally WRPG's are my fav genre, whereas I've never really enjoyed stealth games (exception is thief). Haven't played MGS4, but played 2 and loathed it and from what people have said I doubt I'd like 4. Mass Effect for me.

If I had to choose, I'd go with MGS4, it was the better experience for me.

Mass Effect left a much bigger impression on me than MGS4.

Character creation, different character classes, a great dialogue system, light/dark alignments, a myriad of sidequests and subplots add up to lots of replay value.

On an aesthetic level, the story is less cheesy and cutscenes are kept to an acceptible level.

lol obviously MGS4......game's like a masterpiece of movielike gameplay from start to finish...after your done with the long ass single player, grab a gun and go play online. Mass effect is alright i went in to play it in the mind set it sucked cuz it had flopped but ....it was all right...deff not in the same quality league as MGS tho.

Why would you trade in a game you just bought and are currently enjoying? Finish Mass Effect first then trade it or maybe by then you'll have the money to get MGS4 and keep ME as well.

I haven't played Mass Effect (yet?) but from what I hear, It's a really good experience.

But speaking from my own experiences on MGS4, i own it, and I would easily label it as the best in the series (and I thought 3 was freakin' amazing). As well as it being one of the best games ever made (IMO). and thats not something I can say easily. It's right up there with SotC, and Super Mario Bros. hehe. It's legendary. I was seriously emotionally moved. But I suggest you play the first 3 MGS titles before you hit up MGS4. If you have, it will quite possibly enhance the emotion and "wow" factor of the game 10 fold. MGS4 is good for two or three play throughs, after that, most people will be comfortable with putting it down, or trying online (which is a blast, when it works, hehe)

Anyway.. yeah. i'm dragging on. IMO, if you're a fan of the MGS series, trade. If not, hold off, and get MGS4 later.

Well, asking a question like this is going to only result in everyone giving you their opinions, and nothing more. With that said, trading in Mass Effect for MGS4 is akin to blasphemy to me. :D

Mass Effect is lots of things but I don't think original is one of them.

It's basically KOTOR 3 without the SW license imo.

mass effect. that game show how real storytelling should be done. mgs4 is awful full of pointless plot twists, silly dialogue and painfully long cutscenes. mass effect kept me immersed in the story till the end.

Mass Effect probably has more replay value, but MGS4 has been getting many good reviews for a reason.

All this comes down to though, is personal taste. I couldn't care less about MGS4, but there are many people out there that probably feel the same about Mass Effect.

Look at the style of game in both, watch some gameplay footage, and decide on your own from there.

Have you even played MGS4? Seriously? like sat down and played through the whole thing, not sat and watched your friend play through it?

If so, whatever, to each his own, but something about your post screams "i'm just guessing". If it was full of silly dialogue, "painfully" long cutscenes, and just plain "awful", How the hell did it get a 10 from gamespot, and a few other credible sources?

I suppose Kojima paid them?

What did Mass Effect score again? Meh.

At least I had the decency to admit I hadn't played Mass Effect, but I heard it was good. *sigh* Apparently you can't even act like anyone would possibly enjoy MGS4. That says something about you.

Unfortunately my gaming budget has been eaten by Madden (first one since 04), Rock Band 2 and Spore in the next few weeks. I might get it ongamefly, but there are so many games coming in the near future.

Luckily I'd never have top chose between the two and thats another over 9000 win for owning both consoles ^.^ I liked both games, MGS4 did feel like more of a movie, but still was an awesome game! Mass Effect I think did well on most parts, except allot of the side missions where just bland, still a great game!

i played it from beginning to end. i enjoyed mgs1 + 2 but 4 was bad. sorry i dont think kojima is a "genius". he would probably get laughed out of hollywood. his kind of storytelling would bore the crap out of anyone who is not a serious fan of the series. people need to quit acting like this game is godly.

I played both personally I like MGS4 because it is one of those epic times in gaming everything comes together and unfolds and the final boss battle is probably the best.

Like other say get both or at least finish ME before trading in and getting MGS. Reason being you want to finish ME before its sequels come out and MGS4 can wait, but cannot be passed up.

i would keep both if i could
