MGS4 to be the GTAIII of this gen?

It's going to need more than that to make a good game. You just described a multitude of games, minus the Cell. Which, in essence, is just a processor. It can't make a good game.

But yeah, it's probably going to be a great game, but I don't think it'll be the GTA3.  GTA3 was very influential, and I think it's going to be hard for such a high-budget game to be widely influential.

I wouldn't call it buying into the hype. I mean, they promised a lot, so lets hope they deliver this one time.

The reason GTA 3 was such a huge hit, was because it totally reinvented the "sandbox" genre. Running around a city? Jacking any car you wanted? Running from the cops? Doing anything you wanted to do?

That's just fun.

Doubtfull, GTA III was more then just a great game for the PS2. GTA III was the game that brought countless new people to the PS2 and it made the PS2 the console to own. MGS 4 won't do that.

The GTA series sells better than the MGS series...which is the point of this thread...

I think this will be One of the top 5 games if not the best game this gen. I can see it having the effect that GTAIII did for the ps2. I mean...Story, Cinematics, Gameplay, Sound, Six Axis, Graphics, Online, Incredible Boss Battles, New Gadgets, Cell.

Not bloody likely. Noone likes MGS anymore. the 3rd one flopped in north america. And then there's the fact that we already know what the gameplay will be like because Kojima hasn't made any real changers to the formula. MGS, MGS2, and MGS3 all play exactly the same with very FEW and very minor differences.

Story? The story is compelling, it just usually makes no sense.

Cinematics doesn't make a game.

Gameplay-most important, im sure it will be great.

Sound-they have good voice acting.

Six axis-hahaha uhhh, no thanks. It's a pretty terrible idea, i really hope they don't use it in MGS4

Online-...I can't see it being great in the online devision, if there is any.

 The cell? Bahahahaha

it will be a great game sure, but it isn't reinventing the genre, and I don't think it will be anything ground breaking.
