MGS4 Vs Halo3- Which one will have bigger impact on console sales?

This is not question about which game is better( we know its MGS4 :P) But my question is who do you HONESTLY think will have bigger affect in system sales.

Will MGS4 shift more PS3s then Halo will for 360? Or vise versa.

PS: Keep fanboyism to minimum please.

No offense. MGS 4 will be critically acclaimed but it won't touch Halo in systems moved.

The biggest effect MGS 4 might have is pushing those who are already planning on getting a PS3 into getting one sooner. Halo 3's launch is an event. The MGS 4 launch will be like any other good video game's launch.

Theirs alot of fps virgins out there, so im going to go with halo 3.

well you'd think that any decent game would be able to stimulate PS3's aweful sales.... however, people know that Halo is a game with infinite shelf life, as in, what game do you know that can be played with the same draw two and three years after its release....?

Not really, but you're right about which will move more systems. FPSs have been around wayyyy too long for any gamers to not play at least one.

I would give it more credit than that. MGS2 was the sixth best selling game on the Playstation 2, and Metal Gear Solid was the seventh on the Playstation.

The first MGS on Playstation consoles has always demonstrated that "next-gen leap", and has thereby been a huge system mover.

but most people who want to play halo have probably gotten a 360 and wont move nearly as many units as people say but mgs4 will psuh alot of people over the edge and so i voted for mgs4

The MGS series has traditionally lagged only behind Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy as system movers for Playstation consoles.

Remember, MGS2 came out right when the competition came out. It was one of the big two IPs for the year(FF and that) and on the system everyone was buying.

MGS3...Did it even exist till substance came out? :D MGs3 just dropped like a rock. It took online and substance to make up some ground and even that suffered alot compared to the last two. The thing is...MGS just may not be as strong as fanboys make it out to be anymore. No question on quality I believe can be said. Yea its not my bag...A long drawn out soap opera with guns. But Its not like there arent 1000 worse choices lol. But I think it is more the problem Nintendo had with Cube and N64. Its not going drag new people into buying it...just ones already planning or fanboys or stuff like that. And no...Just because all joo friends ownz a PS2, doesnt mean they have to get a PSThree

I can make rudimentary mischaracterizations of any great game series too, but I won't stoop that low.

As for the series not being as big as it once was--perhaps. But perhaps the opposite is true. Perhaps the series dipped with MGS3, and will sloap upwards again with MGS4.

Keep in mind that MGS3 still had Gears of War-level sales with 4 million.

And this much is true:

hype for MGS was huge.

Hype for MGS2 was huge.

Hype for MGS3 was mediocre, since the technological aspects of the game weren't as impressive.

Hype for MGS4 is huge again. I expect sales to follow the hype.

I honestly think MGS4. The vast majority of people who are going to buy Halo 3 have long had Xbox 360s, you won't see thousands of people rushing to stores to get game and console.

The original Halo had arguably the biggest impact on consoles sold than any other game last generation. So I'd give it to Halo. Although I also think many publishers are waiting on MGS4 to be the big console mover of early 2008.fuzzysquash

Don't forget how important MGS2 was either. MGS2 was one of the first, "must-own" games for the ps2, and it certainly sold quite a few consoles. Whether it sold more than Halo, I don't know, but in my mind, MGS2 essential to the PS2's console victory last gen.

no matter what console you own or how much of a fanboy you are, i don't know how you could argue that Halo 3 won't sell more systems than MGS4. Halo 3 has more hype surrounding it than ANY other game before it and many are just getting a 360 to get Halo 3. MGS4 will probably be great (not my kind of game but to those who like the series it will be great) but Halo 3 is just on another level sales wise and selling systems.ItalStallion777

Halo 3 will make a bigger impact on the 360 sales than MGSIV will on the PS3 I think.

MS are pumping loads of cash into marketing this game and it's sure to cause a storm on release. That's not to say MGSIV won't do well. MGSIV combined with other PS3 games in 2008 like GT5 and GTAIV will push PS3 sales extremely well.

I can tell you what will be the better game. MGS4, but you already clarified on that.

Anyways, I think MGS4 will help sales of the PS3 more than Halo 3 will for the 360. Simply 'cause anyone who wants a 360 for Halo 3 has already gotten one, and has had one for awhile. I mean, it'll boost sales a bit, but not drastically. Since not many people have a PS3, and think they can hold out for a MGS4 port, the sales of the PS3 will certainly go up when MGS4 is released, once lemmings realizea 360 port is not happening or if it is, won't be out for a loooong time.

Me being one of those people

Halo3 by far, everyone knows it has more casual appeal.

It does not matter which one actually turns out to be the better game. The easy, honest, and obvious answer here is of course Halo 3. The hype monster is just too big, as is the casual base alone. Add in the core gaming base that is dying to play it as well, and you have quite a formidible sales monster on your hands.

On a side note, I absolutely cannot wait for Halo 3, but I do personally think that MGS4 is without question going to be the better game as far as a single player experience goes. Just personal preference, and what I think to be the obvious.
