If MGS4 takes the entire year and doesn't sell 1 million copies within its first 2 months It should be safe to assume that most people bought the PS3 as a blu-ray player. I mean if good games like Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, and Ratchet and Clank(it is an established franchise)combined can't sell 1 million then there is a serious issue. Yes Call of Duty 4 sold decently(a lil over 300k is not going to cut it though), but it isn't the only good game on the PS3.

UT3 is a PC game so I will not look at that if it has poor sells on the PS3 in the US. If it has great sells then I guess Sony shouldn't worry about third party games selling well. I believe Call of Duty 4 is the first 3rd party game to sell decently on the PS3.

You do know Naughty Dog games (Uncharted) and Insomniac Games (R&C ToD) aren't known for having high sales when the games first come out, its more of a "in time thing". They aren't like Halo 3 that make millions in the first week.

True, yet also look at the fact that Heavenly Sword and Uncharted are new franchises. Unproven franchises. Regardless whether or not they are cinematic beauties to uphold or have great gameplay mechanics, gamer or casual, no one wants to part with money on something that's unsure. Metal Gear Solid is a proven franchises, although not popular, it will still have more attention and money of consumers than PS3's previous exclusives.

Though I agree, if MGS doesn't do well in sales, I'll question the majority of my fellow Playstation 3's purposes with the console. Fortunately enough though, I think it will sell well. Maybe not the first week but first two weeks. You have to give some people time to purchase Playstation 3s when it hits the shelves.

That is a long time to wait to see if the PS3 will be a success in terms of game sales.

The fact that all three of the games I listed combine didn't even break 1 million is the issue.

What are you talking about, pes 08 and fifa 08 sell better on ps3 in european territories and in areas like germany spain and france, assasins creed sells more than the 360 one, also mgs4 is one title, you can't decide with one title since there are other great exclusives comming in 08

New franchises have sold well on the 360 so I don't get that excuse.

I'd say Gran Turismo 5 is going to be a much better indicator. MGS is a great series but it doesn't have the same mass appeal as a game like GT does.

I am letting you know now your wrong. Because the 360 has a larger install base in Europe the soccer games has sold more on the 360. Stop saying things that are just not true.

360 also has a pretty big install base, last time I checked. I'm looking morerelatively towards how many Playstation 3 owners there are, they'd rather place their money on some of the biggername titleslike Call of Duty 4, thus the reason why it sells pretty well on Playstation. Being a Playstation owner myself, I want the best for my money with the limit selection. Reason being why I haven't caved in and bought Folklore yet for the sake of holding money for something that I may enjoy more.

You're right, but it sold 300k in just two weeks, after two months it should be around the million mark with ease. Worldwide it currently stands at about 800k ( vgchartz- only source available) and about 365k in the states. By the end of the year it should be at around 700k atleast in the US

Ratchet and uncharted combined will easily sell around a million in the US. Ratchet should be at around 400k by end of the year. Uncharted is a little harder to predict, although first week sales were higher than ratchet, but ratchet was released at a slower period. Uncharted had considerably more competition though.

Final Fantasy is the world game. MGS is the western one.

But its not all on that. Most have not touched the cell in full. And even the developers of it are calling game developers stupid in basic. But that better stuff will for sure come. MGS4 is only 08, not 2012!

Ala

"Hes talking about the cell, if woundering"

"""And as an industry, we also find it challenging to locate new staff. In many ways the education system, both university and trade, fails to focus on some of the principles that are so dear to us as game programmers... so that with each new generation of programmers comes the long - and perhaps natural - process of learning and making the same mistakes over again. But with the projected development staff size requirements increasing so dramatically for this generation of games, we are left with a problem: there are simply not enough people to go around who can develop high-performance technologies on these platforms."""

In basic saying the game developers are idiots lol. And that better will come

ala

""BM architect Jim Kahle has spoken out against criticism directed towards the PlayStation 3 version of Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warefare, which argued that the game is visually no better on Sony's platform than its Xbox 360 and PC counterpart.

He also added that gamers have yet to see the full potential of the PS3, stating, "You haven't seen the full power of the PlayStation [3] exploited yet; "That's what we worked on... we still have a ways to go.""

And Dead Rising and Crackdown were as praised as much as Siants row. Intill Saints Row become a PS3 game also, and was saw as just the plain game it is. As seems to be the case with many 360 to PS3 games. PS3 fans know GTA4 could be good, but they also no over hyped "Saits Row, Oblivion" When they play it. Saints Row was like a God, intill it became multi, and the same will go for Bio Shock and others.

At this pace by the end of 08 they will be tied "or much closer!" With momentom on the Black Boxes side. And developers know that.

Random BS lol. So your calling quotes form heads of BC and IBM BS. Yet the whines on this little non read thread know so much more. I guess thats why they work where they do, and you don't.

You ask if MGS4 is important. No its not. Not to the amount, and quality of games will see by the end of 08. MGS4 is no more important than Final Fantasy 13, God of War 3, Little Big Planet, IFAMOUS, Gran Tursimo 5, Killzone2, or any of the games just for 08. MGS4 is not it! And when I tlak about the cell, I mean that power wise after all this in 08. The graphics war will start to stretch to one side. And the PS3s future depends more so on that threw 2012, and what is creates. More so than anything in 08 with MGS4.

07 08 :P I cant believe its 08 pretty much already, get them mixed.

I believe Call of Duty 4 is the first 3rd party game to sell decently on the PS3.

too_much_eslim

It's sad that you have to base that on one game.
