Better than GEARs was online.
You can custmise weapons, character look and clothing, you get more than 3 modes to start off with, support for a larger amount of players. Clan support, a stronger community support also with Konami having a website dedicated for the game similar to Bungie having a website for Halo 3 players to keep track of their stats etc. GEARs did not have that yet it was GOTY.
GEARs has more maps however.

you guys gotta remember we are dealing with GTAIV getting a AAAA score. Did SMG get AAAA? answer no, did Gears get AAAA? answer NO. GTAIV is a shoe in unless maybe Gears 2 can knock it off.

What happens then if spore comes out and gets the same score without multiplayer?
Kinda blow your theory out abit wouldn't it.

does SPore have multiplayer? No, does MGS4 have multiplayer? Yes. Kinda different when a game has multiplayer dont you think?

Gears 2 to get a 10...No chance in hell, IMO.

I agree, doubt it is as well, but maybe has a chance, or the singleplayer Spore.
GTAIV's multiplayer is pretty bad IMO. Metal Gear Online has potential, remember it's only a beta. It can be a really good tactical shooter, if the tactics are applied correctly.
Anyway as I said the sub par multiplayer in GTAIV didn't hurt the score. It shouldn't in MGS4 either.
on-line play is not a prerequisite for a GOTY.
I think vindication from gaming sites is shallow.
On the other hand, my need to say "I told you so" on a daily bases is quite healthy for my ego :P

You are aware, several times in the past a lower scoring game has won GoTY? Tony Hawk 3 didn't get GoTY I think and that was 10/10 :P
Just a point on bashing online. This is a highly improved formula from the past online games, and guess what? All of the Metal Gear Online versions from MGS3: Sub to MGS: PO has been praised as part of the review. It may be different from most games, and a harsh learning curve but that doesn't make it bad.
Play Snake vs. one the best game modes. I prefer Base Control myself but...eh?
that is why SMG didn't get GOTY... oh wait starmetroid
This should have ended the thread. I have a hunch that the PS3 2008 GOTY will be a multiplat, two years in a row.

LOL...Sorry but I couldn't help but laugh at your sig, thats a great one.Gta 4 would beat mgs4 for GOTY even if it had MGO included in the disc.angelkimne
"First, we'd like to clarify, once again, because we see people still asking about this - Metal Gear Online comes with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It is not a separate product. Metal Gear Online is the online multiplayer component of MGS4. We will be expanding MGO over time through new downloadable content (DLC), such as, maps, weapons, skills, and much more."

Why is this so hard for people to understand? MGO is included with MGS4.

Well, MGS4 will most likely be criticized for selling it's multiplayer seperatly. Im sorta pissed about it, and no matter how good the game is I'll still be mad about it.
If Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, GTA IV and Gears could pack in the single player and multiplayer in their packages I don't think theres a reasonable excuse as to why MGS4 could not.

You might want to read up a little higher...
(MGO and MGS4 are in the same package, on the same disc)
I hated Gears MP, but I don't even think the two are in the same league. MGO feels like a tacked-on, last-minute, second rate, no-frills attempt at MP imo. It's fun, but it is very lackluster.Better than GEARs was online.

I thought it's very good, and MGO has been announced for ages now.
It's a great Metal Gear online game, like MGS3: S and MGS: PO
Sneak Mission is the best mode. Its "metal gear" to a T.
More unique modes like that and MGO will be just fine.

With drebin points and the sop system this online is anything but tacked on. Sneak Mode is too much fun. The levels are huge and reward stealthyness over run n gun. What you can pull off with some items is awesome if your creative enough to figure them out. Tacked on multiplayer is more like Army of Two. MGO is fully realized if you take the time to see how deep the rabbit hole goes.
I agree with that, but I also think the modes are the least of the problems with the beta. MG has always been about stealth and somewhat realistic tactical approach to situations. MGO is about as run and gun, and 30 bullet kills as Halo is. The cover system is essentially useless, and overall the game feels very sluggish.Sneak Mission is the best mode. Its "metal gear" to a T.
More unique modes like that and MGO will be just fine.

The drebin point system is probably the best feature of the game, as is the robust stat tracking. A stealthy approach sounds good on paper, but after a week with the title a good majority of the people are runnin and gunnin. I 'm on the verge of tears when i have to watch people enter the assualt rifle cross-checking dance of death. I expected a hell of a lot more fluidity.[QUOTE="Bread_or_Decide"][QUOTE="dru26"][QUOTE="PelekotansDream"]I hated Gears MP, but I don't even think the two are in the same league. But the game severly cuts down your points for every death. So theirs no incentive to kill others if your own life is in danger. If you think on your feet you can take advantage of the fools running and gunning. They are more likely to run into claymore and nudie mags. Then they are yours for the taking haha.
GTA IV was mega hyped and it had its flaws there was problems of freezing with some people AI problems graphics where pretty but not unbelievable Physics where great story was good not as great at MGS4. I think a lot of people will agree with me when I say it should have gotten a 9.5 but that extra hype gave it a 10. As for mgs4 the top 3 sites people really look at are ign gamespot and game trailers I agreed with Game trailers review of GTA IV 9.8/10. As for Mgs4 I foresee 9.0-9.5 on gamespot 9.6-10 on IGN 9.5-9.7 on game trailers. Why not because it's a suckier game then GTAIV it just doesn't have the hype GTA IV has and some people haven't followed the story of MGS with GTA its a lot easier to play and get into it. MGS it was a series if you play the 4th without the first 3 you'll be like wtf is this?

Slow paced game feels slow.
Stop the press!
Now to say that their onlne isnt good, but I played the beta and its decent, I would give it about a score of 8.5. The problem with that is GTAIV online is far superior and the singleplayer is a 10 in GTAIV so basically single player was a 10 and so was the multiplayer. IN MGS4 I can see the singleplayer get a 10, probably a 9.5, but I know the multiplayer isnt getting a 10. Thats my take, please refrain from flaming and discuss this subject friendly. Thanks.Coredog777
Thats just your opinion and besides that u cant compare the 2 games because they are both 2 very different type games. MGS4 is more tactical and stealth and requires team work online where GTA4 is more of a kill anything that moves and do it however the hell u want to. There are people who enjoy both type games but I think MGS4 is much more organized then GTA4 is online and requires more skill. In the end of the day MGS4 + GTA4 is a flawless victory compared to just owning GTA4 alone. :)

Let me put another point into this. Gears is a north american style game and gamespot is a north american website (props to gamespot uk as well). It's online and single player will be rated higher here by even the most obejctive review becasue at teh end of the day living on this continent makes you want to chainsaw people....no really its more complicated than that, but you get where I'm going with this...
ok ill tell you....gears ****appeals to our culture more than mgs4 will, not to say it wont appeal, it's just that it would be hard for them to portray similar themes in single player and multiplayer and have them well liked....I cant picture snake curbstomping people.

I disagree, most of the modes are complete **** personally, I only really play Mafiya Work and TDM and GTA Race.
