As a fan of the MGS series, I don't think any of the series sold a million in a day.

Because there was only one console at the time, of course it would sell well.

I think it's very possible, may even sell a million and a half, yet that's pushing it. Install base will be bigger, as you said and many PS3 owners who haven't even touched Solid Snake will end up buying the game for the sake of having the grail of the Playstation 3 console.

Also, MGS3 wasn't marketed well at all. I remember quite clearly zip, apart from the big communities.

When I first read that Konami needs to sell 1 million copies of MGS4 on day i thought that was the most ridicolous thing ive ever heard. But I thought about it.. By Q2 2008 PS3's user base will be atleast 9-10 million.. So only 10% of PS3 owners need to purchase this game, thats very reasonable if you ask me.. Not to mention the game is getting a simultaneous worldwide release, so it roughly needs to sell 335,000 copies in each of the main regions Europe,US and Japan which again is very reasonable. Seeing as how Japan is really starting to adopt the PS3, Europe is Sony land and US loves MGS also, Ithink its possible for konami to pull it off, but only time will tell.ChristopherM80

Neither is the ps3 most people who have a PS3 aren't casuals.Considering the lack of exclusive games on the ps3 I can see MGS4 clearing a million easily on day 1. The reason why the previous MGSs didn't was because there were many more games on the ps1 and ps2 that put up alot of competition. The only game that can give MGS4 competition is Killzone2 and I wouldn't take killzone2 over MGS4

So far no PS3 game I know of sold even 100K on day one. Going for one million is like going for broke.

MGS 2 had a NA and JPN release at the same exact time against a new IP and a unestiblished console.

I dont call that competition, it had no excuse but to sell literally millions, I even brought 2 copies.

people seem to think that MGS is as big as Halo. It really isnt.

Its an incredible game and by no means is worse than Halo, but its not this amazing life changing franchise some want it to be. I could see it not selling 1 mill on day one, and I could see it doing it. It all depends on the market.

But I still have little faith it comes out by Q2 this year.

also i dont think Konami needs MGS to literally sell 1 million on day 1. I think maybe 1 million in its first week or first month is what they will expect. I mean I honestly believe MGS 4 will be a huge killer app, because everything else on the PS3 has just been either just good or highly dissapointing, nothing amazing.

MGS4 "supposively" comes out Q2 2008, FF 13 doesn't even have an announce date yet.

About MGS4, and if it can sell a million its possible..

There's just no way I can see MGS4 selling 1 million copies on the first day. Maybe the first month, but I think that might even be a stretch.

MGS has never pulled those numbers before, and to think it will happen with a smaller userbase is illogical.
