-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

John Schappert of Microsoft discussing whether the Wii inspired creation of Natal

"I'd say Natal is more of a response to breaking down barriers and introducing entertainment for everyone. What we realise is as much as we continue to make [Xbox] more accessible - and I think it's far more accessible, and an easier-to-use system than ever before, with more functionality than ever before - there still is going to be that challenge of having people to get over the 10-button controller, and feel uncomfortable to navigate the user interface when you play games."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wait, the yellow text sounds vaguely familiar......lol

Oh M$

Of course they're going to deny it. They're not going to admit that they were backed into a corner by Nintendo Wii, so they felt this was their only option is to copy Nintendo Wii's motion control. Both Sony and M$ did so.

That's to be expected. MS has never had an original idea of their own.

Why? Whats so horrible about admiting you admire the competition?

Iwata, the president of Nintendo says he owns a PS3 and enjoys it, when asked what he thought about sonys fall from grace he did not answer as he thought it would be disrespectfull.

Cammie Dunnaway said she thought LBP on the PSP fantastic and AC2 was one of the best looking games at E3, Miyamoto is one of the few big shots who actually visits the competitions booths to play their games (seen watching KZ2 and in this E3; PSPGo).

You dont see them throwing cheap shots like the sad "waggle" comment

Like i pointed out in my last post, nintendo doesnt have any trouble complimenting its competition. Of course he cant frase it like the 360 strategy was wrong all along, but trying to act like this is happening regardless of the Wiis existence is just stupid

Yeah, but most people really don't care how they act. Most people woudln't care if they're "disrespectful" or "cheap". They do there job, and they do it to a high enough standard.

Yeah. Coming from the same company that denied the RROD was an issue, and then coughed up a 3 year warranty like they were doing everyone a favor.

Whenever Skate was shown off at E3 in 2007 (I think) Miyamoto was seen playing it and saying he liked it. (I'm just adding more comments to go with what your saying.

Well, natal is'nt inspired by wii. If you actually think it has far more in common with Eye Toy / PS Eye than the wii remote. It was inspired by Eye Toy but a response to wii. And he is right, it is more accessible and easier to use than anything else so far, but no way in hell is it more functional. Even the controller they have now is more functional for gaming than natal.

Well she certainly was'nt going to say New Super Mario Bros. wii and retain any credibility. And one would think the other "big shots" were at their respective booths answering questions. Miyamoto had a group interview sheduled later that day so he had time to kill.

credibility hey? Kinda like M$ saying NATAL exists regardless of the Wii phenomenon and then using the exact same words nintendo has been using to describe their philosophy with the Wii?

Oh and Myiamoto ALWAYS checks the competition, Not just this E3.

And i'm curious if you disagree that of all three, Nintendo the one with more "class".

Yeah, Microsoft clearly invested millions of dollars to fight the serious threat that is the mighty eyetoy.

I don't see why MS would even go out of its way to deny this. It's pretty damn obvious that they are lying when they say that Natal wasn't inspired by the Wii. If they said "Well, we saw what they were doing and thoughtwe could do that kind of thingbetter", that'd be acceptable. But to just straight up deny the Wii was an inspiration strikes me as rather dumb.

MS honesty expect people to believe that crock? When MS launched they didn't even think or agree with HD 1080p, HDMI, HD media..let alone motion...but later adopted it, due to competition, same goes with natal...they are always catching up. I honestly laughed so hard at this.

If sony was asked the same question, i wouldnt be shocked if the answer was something like: (laughs) "Wii? Whats a Wii? No, we are inovators and sony's new motion technology will finally bring us to the new era of gaming and interactivity"

Atleast Sony's wiimote version is proven and it works, and take into account it's actually more precise and overall better than the wiimote thanks to 1:1 detection...so its pretty much what the wiimote should have been. Natal is nothing, its some dream MS hope will work out. IMO, it won't even work like they say, but simply made for casuals and party people.

xbox 360 controller- 10 buttons, excluding both joysticks, the d-pad, and the home button wiimote+nunchuck- 8 buttons, exluding one joystick, the d-pad, and the home button not really that much simpler... and to answer to the OP, it's obvious this microsoft guy is going to say this. he has to, or his job is probably at stake.

I don't see what is wrong with being inspired by something that is working - and selling - so well though.

You don't know how something works unless it's released. Many wii games looked like they worked but ended up to be trash (red steel comes to mind).
