https://www.gamespot.com/articles/microsoft-annual-gaming-revenue-passes-10-billion-/1100-6460569/

Microsoft's gaming business is on the up and up. The company today reported earnings for its fiscal fourth quarter and full year ended June 30, and times are good for the Xbox business.

For the quarter, Microsoft gaming revenue amounted to $2.28 billion, while full-year revenue came in at $10.35 billion. This represents growth compared to $1.64 billion this quarter last year and $9.05 billion for the full previous fiscal year.

Yet some people will still insist they are failing and losing money on their gaming division.

Yep, Xbox is healthy... and it's good for the industry.

And it's probably only going to get better too once their new studios start pumping out games and more people take up subscriptions like Game Pass etc.

Most of that “revenue” is from PC, cell phones and other “gaming/entertainment”.

The Xbox division is still a massive flop and loses billions.

And lol at lems not talking about “profit”. Apparently they don’t know the difference between “profit” and “revenue”.

The fact is, Xbox can die at any time with the poor performance the last 20 years. Microsoft can only hide the sales numbers for so long from investors.

Xbox is such shambles they have to use “crossed” to describe things or charts bragging how 1 billion headshots happened in a halo game LMAO

How much of that revenue is actually from Xbox and how much is actual profit? That’s the question we need to be asking but it’s a question MS will never answer for obvious floptastic reasons. The same way they’ve been hiding actual Xbone sales for years is the same way they are dubious with telling us how much money the flopping console is making.

@mowgly1: They have the financial resources to invest in a next gen console that can greatly outperform Sony or Nintendo's next console. Heck, as mildy profitable as Nintendo is, they always go on the super cheap end of console development. I mean, with all that money, why not design a super duper Switch 2.5 that is more powerful than the PS4 Pro/Xbox One X combined? Oh wait...they can't afford it.

Microsoft's gaming business is on the up and up.

I wasn't aware that the legality of MS's gaming business was in question. Good to know, I guess.

Or is this like the mobster with his "totally legitimate business"?

@lundy86_4: They're not making a lot per Switch unit though....to build one costs $257 each, and that's not even taking into account the distribution channels it has to go through before it gets sold through to customer. Yes they have a lot of cash on hand, yet they can't build a premium Switch with 4k graphics that can easily best the PS4/One X...but Microsoft can because they have much larger cash reserves.

Indeed. Those revenue include software royalties and services from Havok, Simplygon, PlayFab as well and all those ae development technologies/tools that MS licenses. I believe Nadella even mentioned those as the increase in the same revenue.

@MarkAndExecute: They don't use the razor/razor-blade model like Sony and MS conistently do. Ninty always sells units at a profit, plus makes money through software and services. Sony and MS have always (IIRC) sold units at a loss initially, and made money through games and services. Over time, hardware becomes more and more profitable. You seem to have pretty basic knowledge regarding this, so we can't really take you seriously.
