The would lose too much money if they cut the price again this soon. Sony isn't looking to out sell the 360, they are trying to make a profit.

I might be getting a PS3 for crimbo but if there is a £50 price-cut then I'll definately get it.

This christms is not going to be good for sony. MS has made a very good move and has now dropped the price of their console to £120. Which makes it cheaper than a wii. And its a brilliant stratagy. I mean who is going to get a ps3 when the 360 is twice as cheap, and has a good library of games?

Plus with the credit crunch and all people just cant spend £300 on a console. But MS has made it so EVERYONE can have their console, sony is literally limiting their market, its a huge risk.

Nowq unless sony drops the console to sub-£200 its not going to fly off shelves. But if they do it will be affordable and it will pick up momentum very fast.

Its a shame, the ps3 is arguably the most powerfull console out there and yet sony is ruining it. They need to realise that no one is going to spend £300 on a console and they are just going to have to take the loss.

The problem is if the ps3 losses momentum then its going to go the same way as the psp. Its still the secondary console for developers, it still just gets ports, if it keeps gping like this its going to loose all 3rd party support and that will be desastorous.

PLEASE PLEEEEAAASSSE sony just drop the price, blu ray is not a reason to get a ps3 anymore, you need to start attracting the gamers, you agve the lineup, you have the console, but your price is WAY off.

...except that the 360 is regularly bundled with 1-2 games on top of that. PS3 needs some good NA bundles, why isn't there a LBP one in NA?

Don't you get that they can't drop the price? The 360 price drop hasn't effected their sales at all by the way.

Sony is a smart company. Like any other major franchise there is a reason they are world famous and filthy rich.

If dropping the price was a good move, they would have done it. It's a bit arrogant IMO for fans to think that they know how to make Sony Playstation more profitable. Unless we sit in those business meetings, take a degree, and work for Sony, we only have a limited perception as to how Sony operates.

There is no point in begging Sony, there is no point in suggesting that less price= better sales.

Sony knows better than us. All we can do is speculate, but they know what they are doing. It's a little foolish to think that they haven't thought about price drops, but don't you know that they are selling well, even for a high price?

sony turning the $499 80 gb into a 160gb an the $399 gb into a 80gb was in a way there price drop. The prices are completly fair (expensive but fair) if you ask me.

btw blu ray players are still very expensive and considering that ps3 has been proven to be the best one (plus if you didnt know it plays good games too:P as well as many other things) its an incredible good deal

I think it's funny how much the cost of consoles rose this generation. $400 is still $100 more than what the PS2 launched at.

While hardcore gamers can rationalize that kind of cost, the majority of casuals have a more difficult time doing so - particularly in a less than stellar economy.

I'm not saying that they should drop the price yet. I'm just saying that it's still too expensive for a large segment of the console market.

I don't think it's anything nearly that dire. The Dreamcasts failure was the result of a multi-generational bleeding of Sega, and Sony has enough finincial backing to weather a lackluster generation or two.

What Sony is in danger of losing is, IMO, is their stranglehold market share which allowed them to dictate generations in the past. If they keep their current approximate market share through this generation, the next generation will be very different for them in contrast to what they saw in the past - They'll need to fight harder for market share because fans will no longer just assume that they'll have the best library and that their friends will all get the Sony system.

I'm sure they'll be fine in the long run (ie. - viable and profitable), although they may no longer be dominant.
