This would certainly shake things up in SW. What do you guys think about this? Will MS pull the trigger and acquire them seeing as how they are making Ryse now exclusively for xbox? Is Timesplitters 4 going to be a nextbox exclusive launch title!?

And there goes Crytek. That's like selling your soul to the devil and expect a good outcome.

Bad news for fans of Crytek games. They'll either get them to make one good game and then shut them down, or they'll force them into making nothing but kinect games. Either way it's a lose for any Crytek fans, even 360 owning ones.

Read the last paragraph. It is absolutely possible that they would think about acquiring them now that they are "In love with Kinect".

Bungie only made Halo. If the first Halo wasn't a megahit, they would be making some track and field game for Kinect as we speak.

But how many of them are actually good? Turn 10 is fantastic, Lionhead is getting progressively worse, Rare is dead, 343 looks good, the rest are Kinect crap.

It would be giving their fanbase what they want. Acquiring Crytek would be HUGE for Microsoft, but it would be pretty risky for Crytek, and the days of games being released that push graphics 3-4 years into the future would effectively be over.

This is part of why I hate the console first party.

They acquire success by throwing money at everything, and then the console gamers in SW expect me to think console "success" says something bad about PC.

Every exclusive PC has, it earned. There are no developers that were acquired or paid off to remain PC exclusive. Were as the majority of consoles exclusive line-up is just that.

When Microsoft acquired Lionhead studios, they have been pumping out Fable games since.

When they acquired Bungie, they have been pumping out Halo games since.

When they got Epic Games under contract, they have been pumping out Gears of War games...

Every time Mincrosoft pays off a company or acquires them to develop for 360, they destroy the companies creativity; and turn them into a mass production machine for a single big name franchise.

Look at what they did to poor Lionhead.

They used to have varity and release games more often. Now they pump out a Fable every two years.

I'd hate to see what they would do to Crytek if they got hold of them.

At the same time one could say that consoles have earned their success aswell, look at the likes of Nintendo they have pretty much built their first party from nada, Sony's Japanese Internal studios and Santa Monica are notable mentions along with Turn 10 on the MS front, all them have been pretty much started up and pumping out fantastic games.

Also PC dont "earn" exclusives as you put it, they get developed with the same mentality as other games (Do we need to be multiplat, wheres our biggest audience, what is best to develope for in terms of budget to sales ratio)

I'm going to re-emphasize.

Every exclusive PC has, the developer CHOSE to remain exclusive. All these Uncharted, Fable, Killzone, Alan Wake, Heavy Rain, Gears of War ect. exist exclusively on their platform; SOLELY because of 1st party money.

You are never going to convince me that they say anything about consoles that the likes of a PC exclusive says about PC.

You guys all say this is a bad idea until Crytek makes a new exclusive FPS for 360 and then its all "Next Graphics King Confirmed". You keep playing with that double edge sword and you're bound to get hurt.

You think there are debates on whether to bring killzone to the xbox and pc?

Cool story bro, or there is the fact smaller indie dev's dont have the budget to go multiplat either let me Re emphasize this point in bold. They essentially go through the same process as any other product.

A game like ArmA isnt going to sell well on console's due to sheer complex and technical nature, much like other games they are designed in their mind to be what they are, just happens PC is the best platform for this and the only one for a market for this type of game.Same goes for a lot of other games aswell.

Most PC exclusives are not "small indie devs". Are you so used to the big budget blockbusters that the console 1st party pay for, that your typical game looks like a indie project to you?

I don't buy this argument that cost is stopping certain devs from going cross platform, when it is exactly that which is driving developers cross platform. Developers across the cost spectrum have been going cross platform, they would have to be a tiny studio for that to pose a problem, considering the number of indie products that have gone cross platform. The existence of small budget XBOXLive/PSN titles that are available across many different platforms pretty much goes against that.

While I admit that genre compatibility is a restriction on certain games going cross platform, it largely sounds like you are rationalizing excuses to downplay developers choosing to remain on PC, as well as defend the image of consoles just throwing money at everything.

It doesn't matter how you spin it. A paid for exclusive does not have the same significance as a 3rd party exclusive.

It would seem like a waste unless MS was going to ramp up first party development and wanted Crytek's engine technology. I don't think MS is going to do that. They seem to be happy with multiplats or taking the money they'd pay a 1st party to make a full game and splitting up and getting DLC early or a 3rd party exclusive. They've got two shooters, a racer and a RPG/Adventure game. I think they are happy with the cover the main genres and will let 3rd parties fill in the blanks.

You are never going to convince me that they say anything about consoles that the likes of a PC exclusive says about PC.

and It seems most are choosing to go multiplat.

Your personal tastes are not a counter argument to the point being made...

Current gen developement costs are driving developers cross platform. That said, there are far more exclusive games on PC this generation than consoles, considerably more.

So the suggestion that "most" PC games are going cross platform is a outright lie.

LOL, I like how Phil Spencer said that Microsoft has enough shooters.
