When will you people realise:
NO ONE CARES ABOUT GAMING.
Well not the companies at least. Anything they say about 'caring' is just PR bullsh*t they feed us to buy their product and in turn make more money.
With the exception of Nintendo the companies are more than just games, Microsoft is a software computer and Sony is a consumer electronics manufacturer. They care about money, not about gaming. Why was the original Xbox built?
To try and port DirectX into the console market (hence the X in the name)
DirectX is made my Microsoft, and if they made a good console then most of them would be running off DirectX now.
Guess who would have gotten royalties?
The PS1 was made to push the CD technology Sony had just created with Phillips.
If it did well CD would have become the standard, and it did. And guess who got sh*tloads of royalties?
The PS2 was to capitalize on the existing PS1 base and partly push DVD which it actually did, many people don't realise the PS2 was a huge pushing factor in DVD.
The PS3 was to help Blu-Ray (A Sony product) help beat HD-DVD. If it won, Sony would be the owner of the next-gen media portable storage. It won, any profits that could be made on the PS3 would have been considered a by-product.
What about the Xbox360? Well again with the DirectX, since the Xbox wasn't too good. If by any chance the 360 wins this generation, get ready to see DirectX consoles very soon, and guess who gets those royalties?
As for Nintendo, well even thought they are mostly based around gaming and merchandise which was created from the gaming section, they don't really 'care' about gaming. As shown by the Wii.
They saw a market that had no one in it but with a LOT of potential customers, and they grabbed it.
So really no one cares about gaming, those companies don't care about you.
MS doesn't care if you actually had fun playing Gears, so long as you buy Gears 2.
Sony doesn't care if you liked Resistance as longas you buy Resistance 2
Nintendo doesn't care if you liked ANY of the Wii games, as long as you buy Wii Fit.
