Microsoft denied reports that select Xbox 360 titles will require a hard drive to play games amid growing concerns among Xbox 360 Core owners, but has said the full experience of some games need a hard drive. Source.

"Every game will work with every Xbox 360 system," a Microsoft spokesman told GamePro. "But just like some games will require you to have a Memory Unit to save games, some games will require you to have a Hard Drive to experience them."

For example, gamers can't fully experience the critically acclaimed Oblivion without at least a memory card to save one's progress the representative explained. It is still unclear how a lack of hard drive might affect the gameplay experience outside of game saves, however.

This is confusing. What I think he's saying is that every game can be played on any 360, but some games will need a hard drive for the full experience. What do you guys think?

Sounds a lot like the whole N64 expansion pack deal to me. Not necessary, but certainly worth having.

this is a lose-lose for MS if they say every game will work on 360 then that means devs are screwed. if they said some games will be HDD required core users are screwed

What makes me mad is 90 percent of devs didn't use the Xbox HDD thats why MS went with the core.

No they want it.

And HDD would only be required for downloadable content if you want it, I guess thats what they mean by the full experience.

Core users need to get with the program, or just get left in the dust. One thing Microsoft could do though is to drop the prices of their HDDs.

Thats kinda old news.... to use the markplace you need a harddrive, to get on xbl you need a harddrive or a memory card...So i's not hard to think that some games will require it. If any body saw the cod4 covers when you could vote for them one said you need a memory unit required.

That sucks. Microsoft is holding back the advancement of games by doing this. Pretty soon the developers will reach the limit of things they can do with dvd.

P.s. I don't know what i'm talking about.

I hate that us people with a hard drive in our xboxs have to be held back because of the core users. Just make them buy the hard drive if they want to play. At this point in time, everything we do like downloading stuff off live needs some space. Buy it and dont complain.

the layouts from lovemyflash.com or something (my computer's acting dumb can't get to my page if I wanted to right now) but it should say it somewhere on my page*** EDIT: I got my laptop to work again, and it is lovemyflash **** anyway, so we're on topic.... I'm glad MS is allowing devs to require a harddrive, I had to upgrade for N64 when I wanted to play Perfect Dark... I won't mind upgrading for future games on 360 (I had a core and got a harddrive later, already though =P )

Some games made it necessary. Perfect Dark and Donkey Kong 64 for example, unless you liked playing with bots in PD...

I believe what he's saying is shown already. Example: FF XI can't be played without a HDD anyways. Another thing, I hear Oblivion Caches data to lessen load times...

Personally, it was stupid MS never bundled HDDs in the first place... because it was an advantage with the Xbox last gen, and this gen it'd be nice to have too.

So does that mean, core owners are only able tobuy 80% of the game because in order to experience the other 20%, they need a hard drive?

Actually it is MS' fault to offer the core in the first place. Now they want some game to require hard drive, thus alienating their customer base.

And before you say "Just make them buy the hard drive if they want to play."
What happen to giving the customer"Choices". Are you saying they MUST BUY IT NOW and shove it down their throat. You lemmings are all the same. You say one thing when it suits you and another when it doesn't.

Old news, but yes, one could wonder why the core system is even out there. I mean, no orginal xbox titles, no caching to help games run smoother, etc. A expensive, low storage memory card is no replacement for a 20/100 GB hard drive.

wow, that made NO sense, lol. i guess by "working" they mean that every xbox will be able to make it to at least the title screen. that technically counts as working. but for future games,to get beyond the title screen, you're gonna have to have a harddrive to uncompress the data the devs will obviously have to ocmpress as dvd9 can only take you so far this gen. bets believe the next elder scrolls will ship on 4 dvds. anyone who bought/planning on buying a core should just chalk up an L, you automatically lose this gen. core owners are like those crappy players on your team you have to sub in just so they justify the price they paid to play in your league.
